Which one of these Young & Upcoming Players to be Most Successfull?

This is interesting because it is a type of poll we can revisit in couple of years and see who chose who and why.

1- Alexandr Dolgopolov 22 , 6'0"
2- Milos Raonic 20 , 6'5"
3- Grigor Dimitrov 19 , 6'2"
4- Richard Bernakis 20 , 5'9"
5- Bernard Tomic 19 , 6'4"

Raonic appears to be the experts favorite. I am not optimistic about players that tall. They are injury prone and inconsistent.

Dolgo is fun to watch but he is too weird, I believe he is type of player who gets hot and then cools down all of the sudden. I didnt want to include him in the poll because he is 22 already, but since he appears in discussions as a new and upcoming player I did.

Bernakis is too short for my liking.

Dimitrov's game looks nice but I suspect he is going to end up something like Gulbis.

My chips are on Tomic. From what I saw he has the best ball control, strong serve( Raonic does too) and he plays freely with no intimidations.

I am hoping, though, he soon finds a coach other than his father to develop to his full potential.

If you like add a comment explaining your choice to make this more interesting.

Milos is too tall at 6'5", but Tomic is just right at 6'4"?

I think Berankis is going to be top 10. I'm not sure he'll win a slam, but I think he'll have a successful career.

Milos is a Sampras admirer - clear from his serve - and he has great groundstrokes. He needs a little more of the fighter's mind. I think that (plus the experience gap, of course) made the difference in the Ferrer match. You could see it on their faces.

Sasha has a wonderful overall game and the mind of a champion. So cool under pressure. I'm concerned about his health challenges, though. I didn't know he had them till recently; I can't imagine they haven't hindered him up to this point.

Tomic's an arrogant brat in over his head. A player can't be a champion if he doesn't have the mind for it.

Donald Young, LOL! That would mean none of them would ever be a top 50 player.

Nishikori and Harrison should atleast be on the poll. Cilic should also be on the poll if Dolgopolov is. Cilic is younger and is much better right now.

I'd say Berankis got a valuable experience of ever being the number 1 in the ITF Juniors. At least he'd be in the top 5 IMO.

Dolgopolov's current ranking is 32.

Nishikori - I just hope he doesn't become the next Donald Young on tt...(Got a bad feeling about this)

Dolgo and raonic-they really have weapons...you can't be just fast and hit the ball clean but have no weapons on the tour...look at donald young... you have to have the ability to hit at least one or two shots in your arsenal HARD

dimitrov.

guy rose up the rankings last year like bullet. i think hes the youngest guy in the top 100 right now.

It's cool how spread out the votes are; certainly we're excited for the new young players.

I agree with you Tomic, I think he will just get better and better the more power he can bring to his game. I would have said Dimitrov a few years ago but with his attitude I am not sure how much he wants this.

Tomic is different and has a solid technique, good volleys, footwork, he has everything but a powerful serve which will get better, he knows he needs to improve it to play at the level he wants to. Raonic will be one day a top 30 player I think but he lacks defence skills and a top 30 net game atm.

I gotta agree about Tomic. I was really impressed with him in Australia. His footwork was pretty amazing given his age and I think it could only get better, and he has pretty good net approaches and good hands up there. His technique is good, I liked his forehand. It was the first time I had actually watched him play at all after reading about him but I think he definitely has a ton of potential.

I would have to go with Tomic. I was impressed by him during the AO.

He needs a good coach and some distance from his father. IMO

Dolgopolov for me. He's a bit older than the others but he seems to have gone under the radar a bit more, giving the impression of appearing from nowhere and making a big splash (like you'd expect a supremely talented youngster to do).

I hope Dolgo can carry on his success, he might be the most interesting out of the choices. It will be interesting to see how he goes in the Brasil Open as clay seems to be his favourite surface.
He is older than the others but he is also already a lot higher up in the rankings.
Milos and Bernard would be the next two I'd pick.

How old was Fed when he broke thru against Pete? And then when he won his first Wim in 2003?

It could be impossible now for a 17 year old to pull a Becker or Chang, a teenager suddenly appearing from nowhere and dominating established and professional adult athletes, grown men. They need several years of rough and tumble, truly grow into their bodies and put on muscle. 21-23 may be the right age now for somebody if he is going to make the breakthrough, if ever. Afterward they will have around 4 years at their physical peak to do all they can, make as big a mark as possible before fresher guys come up and push them out of their way.

That's what I see. More of a late bloomer, who is now suddenly making some noise/progress.

I'm no insider, but here's my take...
Overall, I'm rooting for Raonic (good Canadian lad with a Samprasesque arsenal) and Grigor (1hbh). I also like Riko Berankis (smart, versatile, smoove player with great match temperament and mental toughness)

If you vote based on potential (in a Tsonga / Flipper, blowin'jokers off the court way), it's Raonic.

If you are basing your vote on results and steady progress, it's Tomic. But he's got the fewest votes in this poll.

If you look at flash and dash...and the Federer look, it's Grigor. I hope we see substance from him one day!

If you look at the way he pisses off great players, it's Sasha Dolgpolov. Of course he's streaky and high-risky, but when he puts stuff together it's pretty cool.
This kid is going places. Hopefully one of those places is a barber shop.

My vote goes to Raonic. Another game for Milos!

Dolgopolov for sure. He WILL BE, (quote me later) top 10 or 15 by the end of 2011. He is starting late in the game. But QF at first Aussie Open isn't bad. He could have just as easily beaten Murray. The shotmaking he produces is quite amazing to watch. He has A LOT of raw talent, he just needs some refining to really break onto the scene. He already has a big win over the Toad (#4) and Toad wasn't playing badly he was just outplayed.

Next would probably be:
2. Raonic
3. Grigor (If he doesn't get banned for killing an Ump)
4. Tomic
5. Bernakis

I'll quote you on that. I highly doubt he'll be top 15 by the end of the year.

Dolgopolov... The bandlagonism is strong in this one.

Tomic.. I just hope someone will beat the crap out of that ugly little annoying **** kid:evil: Maybe Grigor can help with that!

My vote goes to Dolgo, the guy got a serious game, different from the rest of the field!.

Ha? Dolgo winning the poll?

How can so many people be so wrong.

Dolgo has shown nothing except a decent AO run. This reminds me of Verdasco who reached AO SF 2009 and everybody thought he is going to be a top 5. Dolgo is going nowhere clost to that either.

dolgopolov crushed soderling...i think that just means he is currently the most successful. He has the weapons and it is proven.

I think take him off the list, really. We should be talking those outside of the top 50 21 and under.

I should have included Harrison in the poll but forgot all about him.

That was about 1 year ago and Tomic is still my choice. His match against Murray was another proof.

I don't think ANY of those players will ever win a single slam between them.

Nadal and Djokovic will continue mopping up slams until these Raonic/Harrison/Dolgopolov/Dimitrov/Nishikori/Tomic hype-jobs are too old to be considered contenders for slams anymore.

They will be a completely slamless generation.

Ok, if you say so.
