Which polyester for first timer?

need2paint

Rookie
I have never used polyester strings before but I would like to try some to see what all the polyester buzz is about.

My previous strings have been Wilson SG 16g, Tecnifibre NRG (16g and 17g) and Babolat XCel 17g (my current strings).

Which strings do you recommend for a polyester newbie? I'm not going to hybrid because I'm a purist and I would most likely be using them in my PS 6.0 95.

Thanks in advance.

The best are for sure the Luxilon Strings,Alu Power or Original....
Only negative Thing about is the Price....
Start with a Babolat Hurricane or a Babolat Polymono when the Money is a Reason..
Great Polyesterstrings.

My first poly string ever was Luxilon BB Ace. It's a softer poly string and plays very nicely. I tried most of the Luxilon line before I tried any of the cheaper poly strings. If you're on a budget, try Ashaway Monogut 17. It loses tension pretty quick, but it'll give you an idea of how poly strings play like.

I would drop the pureness crap. Poly's are hard. Harder than the strings you have been using. I use a hybrid so that I keep my arm, by making the stringbed softer.

What ever you choose if your arm, or elbow hurt; cut them out.

Thanks for the advice. I've actually used BB Ace once for about 5 minutes, but it wasn't on my racquet, so I couldn't tell if the feel/performance came from the strings or the racquet.

I'm planning on stringing at a low tension, like 50 to 52 lbs. If I like them, I could try a hybrid later, but for now I want a pure poly string bed to really gauge what they are like.

Would the Pro Hurricane users recommend the 16 or the 17?

I'd go cheap (Gosen Polylon) or soft (Prince Polygut, Gosen Polylon Soft, Babolat ProHurricane). Like Steve S said, a poly hybrid may be the best bet.

Start from deep water - try Luxilon Timo. If your arm survives, Timo will give you perfect control&spin. If it will be too harsh try Luxilon Ace.

Given that you're moving from reasonably soft multifilament strings, I'd suggest trying Luxilon Big Banger Ace first, either by itself, or in a hybrid with a synthetic gut, Like Gosen's Sheep Micro 18. Have it strung at 10% less than your normal tension for a full job, and 5% less for the hybrid.

BB Ace is soft for a poly. If you like it, and if it doesn't cause you arm problems, then you might want to try some of the stiffer poly's like Timo or ALU or Hurricane.

If Ace hurts your arm, you can be sure other poly's will hurt it worse.
