If you take into consideration the exchanges between fans on the internet at times, it's flattering to call it a rivalry between them. Mostly schoolyard bickering. If they could, they'd scratch and pull each other's hair.
I am sure Federer and Nadal would disapprove of how they are "supported" on message boards such as this one.

What rivalry? The only rivalry is between Federer and Nadal..... the fans just have stats they need to deal with on both sides.

I just watched the "Hit for Haiti" match between Sampras/Federer and Nadal/Agassi. Specifically, I'm refering to when Agassi impersonated Sampras, hinting he was a bad tipper.
As Federer put it after both went back and forth:"That rivalry is intense".
It got downright awkward. But I guess you were speaking about current players.
