Which tennis player do you play tennis like?

When you play tennis, which ATP player's style/tendencies (maybe top 30 player/commonly known) do you represent most closely?

I think I am like Nishikori.

-Backhand my best shot (DTL/CC) , forehand is solid, lots of spin.... I am heavy/aggressive baseliner
-good/decent at net, especially short ball/half volley drop shots (my bread and butter)
-subpar serve
-I can't hit a slice backhand/terrible
-I choke a lot.
-I am lazy in between points
-good footwork/footspeed during points

I thought we already had this thread several times.

Forehand: loopy most of the time but when it's on I can hit it pretty hard with some spin. I can also produce some great angles from the fh side.
Backhand: a great shot when it's on (which often is), I can smack it very hard both DTL and CC, excellent knifing slice (my best shot) which my sparing partner who's probably a 5.0 now still has huge issues with. What's funny is that the OHBH is the only self-taught shot which also happens to be my (by far) best shot as far as both power and versatility are concerned.
Movement: very fast (although I used to be faster in my late teens/early 20's) and good footwork but often lazy, you really need to hit it hard on the line to finish me off when I'm bothered to try my best. Very rarely my opponents hit drop shot winners on me.
Serve: 1st serve hit flat but very inconsistent (obviously as you play once a week or so), 2nd serve very weak and attackable.
Other (which I don't use often in matches):
- volleys - below average, bh volley a lot better than the fh volley
- lobs - hard to tell because my opponents rarely attack the net but overall pretty good, especially defensive lobs
- drop shots (only when I'm close to the service box, as with the volleys BH is a lot better than the FH version)
- I think I'm mentally strong, I don't recall any matches when I choked and I had a couple of impressive comebacks

Overall I'd say I'm a mentally stronger and faster 4.5 version of Gasquet with Murray's 2nd serve.

If so, did you copy and paste your descriptions from those several others?

Fed, Sampras, and Stich. I used to serve volley and play the net a lot..these days more from the baseline although I still come in more than the vast majority of people.

is it a pancake second serve?

Not that bad but it's slow and attackable.

I'd love to improve that shot but unfortunately I have no time, I barely have the time to play once a week.
You could do what I do, which is toss it a tad less forward and a tad closer to your head. You would end up driving through it while brushing up a little.
So I have a 105ish mph first serve, and my second serve is 90. I end up double faulting once every eight or so points, but you win a lot of free points on your second serve as well.

Kick serve takes too much time/too frustrating. Doing what I do doesn't really require much practice.

Back when I was playing regularly,I used to change my FH and serve motion tons.
I am generally fast, but not great footwork, average volleys, weak touch, good net coverage.Very poor serve, either big and inconsistent or just put it in the court by all means.I had a few good serving days though.
Forgot to mention junkballing ability :p

The closest I got to a certain style of a pro player,I probably played like Del Potro.
(Bent arm BH,big FH swing)
Weird enough I injured my wrist a year ago and I can't hit a proper 2 hander since:oops:

Some time ago i realised that i play Lendl-like. Back then in 80's my favourite player was Cash, i nearly hated Lendl. But i could not play myself like Pat, i tried several times and lost all the time. So i switched to what should be my natural play style, and it was closer to Lendl.

I'd say Im a slightly better version of peak Nishikori. (USO 2014 against Djokovic)

Here are a couple seconds of me (Sorry can't upload the whole video, I was hitting the ball harder than Del Potro, and my Sony Alpha camera wasn't even able to see the ball at such speeds)

The closest I can compare myself to is Wozniacki/Pusher version of Murray. I tend to play more defensive tennis than I probably should and create problems for myself.

I have 2 handed backhand (I can hit a one hander...kind of...but I don't have the right amount of control to make it a permanent shot). Honestly my serve is probably my biggest weakness (speed wise) and I try to counter that with placement but depending on the day it doesn't help. I prefer the baseline since my reaction time at net isn't stellar and I am usually vulnerable to be passed. My forehand is alright and I like to think I have a decent return...although I haven't played anything close to real competitive tennis since high school so who really knows.

1st serve: Similar to RF's
2nd serve: John Isner's and mine are the same.

Backhand: Wawrinka's. Powerful single handed backhand.

Forehand: It's more like Nadal, Federer and Delpo combined forehand.

Movement: Still fast enough to make guys like Novak look slow.

Mental strength: A better version of Nadal at his peak.

Return of serve: Slightly better than Novak and Andy.

Volley: Pete Sampras at his best was almost as good as me with the volleys.

So, you see the only reason I never turned pro was to give opportunity to these mugs I mention. ROLFMAO!!

Fed.

1h backhand - hit all three
forehand - flat topspin but get a high bounce
All three serves and mix them up like he does, strong 2nd kick (getting it 6-7ft, 70-80mph ish)
I dont force my way into net like he does though.

I was a mix between Ferrer and Hewitt when I used to play frequently. Sadly for me, I don't play anymore.

Novak like Forehand, Safin like backhand. Cuevas like serve. Ferrer at the net (just ****). Nadal's speed. Nishikori's footwork. Also inconsistent slice, but strong mentally. I come back while trailing a lot and don't lose leads easily. Also can proudly say that I win about 95% of the final sets. If I have the ability to win, I win. So I guess I'm like Ferrer in his peak.

My Serve modeled after Federer just to serve different type without giving a clue to opponent.
Rest all my game are modeled after Murray. I hit similar FH, BH and I am very consistent. I love playing cat and mouse game like him! Love to pass serve and volleyers and make them look stupid.
Also my second serve sometime sets up quite to the opponents hitting alley!
That is why I love watching Murray.

The serves you're describing sound exactly like what I do. Get a fair number of free points off the second like you said. Especially into the body.

I have a solid serve, weak but low error rate
I have an accurate but fairly weak FH
I have a good all round flat hitting BH (2 handed)
Im quick around the court but struggle against powerful shots
Im terrible at the net play and drop shots
I have an decent lob
I dont choke when im winning
I do tend to lose effort if i start off badly

I used to think i was kind of like Hewitt, Fast, accurate but lacking power from both offence and defence nor being able to deal with heavy/power shots. Maybe someone else can compare me to another player, my strengths are deff my speed and accuracy tho. Also when im winning, i barely ever choke.

Rafa. I pick my @$$ the whole time.

JK, but I do like his intensity and try to mirror it. I absolutely can't stand hitting with a Babolat though or any open pattern racquey, anyone else feel the same way?

Current players probably Kyrgios. Past players Roddick. Except I have a 1hbh.

I use a 3/4 western forehand grip and their forehands look the most similar to how I feel hitting mine. As hard as possible with moderate spin. And people here all have terrible serves. I've put a lot of effort into mine and no one else puts any effort into their's. So over here I'm basically the rec/club level version of Andy Roddick with my Pure Drive Team.

Usually run around the backhand Robredo style. If I have to hit my backhand I'll either slice or go kamikaze for the lines like Thiem. Don't like to rally on the backhand side much. Especially since I can get better angles than on the forehand side.

I'd say Tsonga, but, relatively speaking, he has way better volleys and touch.

He has a better serve than 99% of Canadians.

I prefer my box beams. Babolat is for grip it and rip it 4.0s, I can't get much accuracy out of those sticks.

Yeah, I just can't get any accuracy unless I play with heavy topspin and hit short. Very hard to hit a spot for me using them. They are by far the most popular among rec players it seems. Especially the aeropro drive. I admit they look cool.

Only problem is controlling depth really. Compared to less powerful racquets. But I don't see the fun in recreational tennis if you aren't playing with as much power as possible.
