This tournament is actually in the City of Carson which is halfway between LA and The OC. I attended this event last year and am hoping to go this weekend. You have to live Maria to win. She looked really good in Carlsbad, San Diego this past week only dropping one set in her 1st tournament since Wimbledon. Jankovic was a finalist last year losing to Dementieva. She lost to Kirilenko in her 1st match since Wimby so she'll be looking to regain her form going into New York. Ivanovic, last year's US Open Series winner, is playing her 1st tournmanet since Wimbledon. Pretty good field. Masha should win. The Serbs are the only players that can challenge her.

Sharapova played well last week. However I think the Serbs are confident vs her, and if one of them plays her she will go down.

The way I see it, Maria wasn't extented too much last week in Carlsbad, so it looks like she may take a 2nd straight title. But I think Jankovic can come through and take the title.

Shriekapova played bad in the finals as usual Schyner chokes, but i still think Sharapova is vulnerable. Her serve is better than couple of weeks earlier but her serve is still 100% good.

Come on now, I am not a fan of Sharapova, but that 6-0 third set she played really well, and credit to her. But she hasn't been tested by a big power hitter as yet, that will be her test.

She played well in the other two sets, too--just had little hiccups here and there. her forehand had issues in the second set, but she didn't just let Patty trample her as the score might suggest.

That said, I pick Ivanovic. She'd been playing well through Wimby, and I think Sharapova probably has the same mental block with her as she does with the Williams sisters because Ana embarrassed her at the FO. But that's just my armchair psychoanalysis.;) If Sharapova plays Ivanovic, the serve will be the difference, and I vote Ivanovic. When Ana plays Jankovich on the way to the final, I think she'll destroy Jelena.

A lot of question marks surrounds Ivanovic to be because she hasn't played since Wimbledon, so she might be a little rusty. But overall only time will tell
