Whippy or lower powered racquets

Hey guys. I've been using the PS97 quite a lot recently... Coming from an intelligence i.radical throughout my highschool/college years.

And I must say the power difference is too much for me. I have to change my normal stroke. My serves are great..

I'm fine with the weight.. I actually added weight to the handle to make it 13.2 and more headlight.

I looked at the TW reviews and the power difference is like 82(PS97) and 64(i.rad). Are these pretty accurate? If so, what are some racquets that I should look into? I do really like the ps85 but want to look at other racquets.

If not what should I look at when it comes to racquet specs?

Are you sure you aren't looking at the averaged out scores from the playtests? If you are, then these don't refer to statistical measurement of power potential but just the perception of the play testers. Scores have notched up over the years so that is not an accurate indicator. However, the I Radical weighs less and is rated more flex than the PS 97. So it is not surprising that you would find the PS97 too powerful compared to the I Radical. I'd say look at the swing weight and RA rating. There is no substitute for demos but in general if a racquet is both heavier and stiffer than your current one, it's going to play more powerful. I think going for lower flex is a better idea than going for lower swing weight. But sadly there aren't too many racquets today that would rate even lower than 62 for stiffness.

I don't know if you played with the 98 or 107 radical, but in addition to what was previously said both radicals are 18x19 stringpattern. You could string at a higher tension or find a stiffer string to take some power out.

edit: looks like the MP is actually 18x20

Yeah that's what I was looking at.

I've noticed that most if not all of the current racquets are quite stiff.

Would the current graphene xt prestige be lower powered?

The racquets I'm looking at now are:
Blade 98 18x20
PS 85
PS 95s
Graphene xt prestige midplus 18x20

Now that I know these power ratings are on perspective I should take the ratings with a grain of salt, yeah? they're in the 70ish ratings

Also does adding weight to the handle of a racquet to make it more headlight give more power??

The ones I played with were the 98. I do string high tensions.. And even with kevlar mains at 60-62. I've played with them my whole tennis "career" so I am used to the feel. Also used kevlar in my i.rads. maybe it's more of my stroke as I'm still getting back into good ol' tennis

Are you looking for something close to the Radical or for something else low powered and fun? Not saying they are mutually exclusive.

Do you play a more flat game or like loads of spin?

Playing with the Pro Staff 97 currently, how do you feel about its weight? It is 1.5oz more than the i.Radical MP.

On paper these look similar: a Graphene XT Prestige S (high weight and swingweight, different pattern), Graphene XT Radical S (bigger head, thicker beam, different pattern) ... Oh, actually Tecnifibre TFight 315 Ltd. TP ATP 18 Main If you are looking to get closer to the Radical.

Tecnifibre TFight 315 Ltd. TP ATP 18 Main
Head Size: 98 sq. in. / 632.26 sq. cm.
Strung Weight: 11.7oz / 331.69g
Balance: 6 pts HL
Swingweight: 309
Stiffness: 61
Beam Width: 20mm / 20mm / 20.5mm /
String Pattern: 18 Mains / 20 Crosses

i.Radical MP
Head Size: 98 sq. in. / 632 sq. cm.
Strung Weight: 10.8oz / 306g
Balance: 2pts Head Light
Swingweight: 297
Stiffness: 64
Beam Width: 21 mm Straight Beam
String Pattern: 18 Mains / 20 Crosses

Doesn't have to be super similar to the i.rad. maybe in terms of power and stiffness, but thats about it.

Looking for lower powered than the PS 97 and more flex if that's even possible. I don't mind the weight of the PS 97, I actually added more to the handle to make it 13.2 strung, And more head light.

Not sure if this makes it more powerful or less?

I like to hit with lots of topspin but will flatten if needed. Naturally I have a fast full stroke which was fine with the i.rads. I have to slow everything down with the ps97 making everything feel.. Second guessed or hesitant if that makes sense?

Maybe I could keep at it and get used to the power? Or go back to i.rads and just weight the handle a bit.

I do have a graphene non xt prestige s that I could try out and my brother has a pair of ps 85s.. I can try.

Thanks for the recommendations I will check em out.

Will leave this for somebody else to answer as I don't have experience with adding weight to ONLY the handle. And since you are willing to consider out of production , racquets (PS 95S), how about the LM Radical?
