Who are your 5 favorite current players -- on each tour?

I like Andreeva. She is clearly completely and utterly obsessed with tennis. Not in a bad way, but in a completely joyful way where she talks about spending hours watching other players matches, analysing the game and seems to be completely addicted to playing and getting better every day.

It's satisfying to see someone with her abilities get this opportunity at such a young age and rather than getting overwhelmed with it and going the Kyrgios route she is just soaking everything up like a sponge and pulling us fans in with her enthusiasm.

Also can't believe how mature she is for someone who is still a kid. I'm not sure whether she can win majors but would love to see it happen.
I like her, too. She plays a very mature game, although (at times), she can get emotional on court...nothing wrong with that.
And she's articulate and delightful in interviews.
She appears to be the next great player -- we'll see.

Who else do you like (or predict great things for) of the young WTA players?

ATP:
Sinner [just a no-nonsense, poised, clean striker with variety and modularity in his play.]
Shelton [ghost of the Big Game past. Beautiful vertical athlete and attacker. Would be great for the tour variety for this sort of player to become a threat for #1.]
Rune [purely based on game/tennis brain alone. Probably needs therapy for his maternal baggage unfortunately. Or an Agassi/Ivanisevic bollocking. But on talent he's good for a couple of year-end #1s.]
Mensik [big guys who can move/are dynamic players are always interesting. Becker, Forget, Krajicek, Safin, Berdych, Cilic all favorites of mine.]
Tien [loves to solve problems on the court. In the Wilander, Chang, Hewitt, Murray, Medvedev typeclass where the brain is the weapon. My energy.]

WTA:
Gauff [like a Clijsters type where you have to admire the phenomenal physical malleability and balance. Also seems to have a modest, clear-thinking head on her shoulders. I'd do an escape room run or watch anime with her for sure, which is saying more than most top pros.]
Rybakina and Andreeva [the opposite of Gauff. Just love watching their kinetic chain and resultant clean striking.]
Pegula and Navarro [IDK maybe I have a thing for preternaturally calm rich girls.]
[And anyone playing L. Fernandez [we have all seen one too many Morgan Stanley ads...]]

ATP:

Alcaraz
Fils
Cobolli
Fonseca
Musetti
Moutet

WTA:

Townsend
Muchova
Andreeva
Jabeur
Paolini
Townsend is a nice addition. I haven't seen her that much over the years, but know her story. A very gifted player -- especially in doubles -- with great hands at the net.

Too hard to predict or make any huge calls at the moment for me in the women's game for young players. Even Andreeva I am holding fire on. The depth is just so huge in women's tennis right now in players more mature than Andreeva. There is extreme depth and above that a ruling class of Gauff, Sabalenka, Queen IGA etc etc that are going to very very hard to get through for a while. It's crazy to me that Sabalenka herself has probably been the best player in the world for two years straight and she hasn't got the silverware to show for it because she has to fight against Gauff or Queen IGA, and there are so many dangerous ballstrikers in women's tennis right now, too. Keys, Anisimova, Alexandrova, Ostapenko can literally demolish anyone on their day, and even if you have a great run and make the third or fourth round your guaranteed to be playing high IQ return of serve monsters like Pegula or ultra-athletic players who also have weapons of their own. Average WTA draw at majors even for a high seed is a tightrope walk right from the second or third round at the moment.

Sinner feels underrated and I think it’s good thing. No need to get overly popular. It makes you lose focus.

I think she combines both being one of the most interesting players to watch style-wise, alongside one of the most interesting players to listen to during her interviews / press conferences.

She didn't make my top 5 here (there was tough competition there), but she's definitely my favourite current WTA top 10 ranked player.

ATP
1. Sinner (I like how he just gets on with things, no ridiculous time wasting, no obnoxious grunting, no theatrics, no playing up to the crowd, he's a silent ruthless assassin for the most part)

2. Alcaraz (would have him as #1 if he cut out that ridiculous ear cupping nonsense, he doesn't need to do that, his game is good enough on its own to have audiences clapping, like that his game isn't just endless grinding from the baseline, he switches things up which is refreshing to watch)

3. Wawrinka (I can watch the 2014 AO final and 2015 RG final on repeat all day long, what a beautiful 1HBH this man possesses)

4. Dimitrov (enjoy watching his game, no obnoxious grunting, unfortunately his body has caved in, retiring in each of the last 5 majors is not a good track record to have)

WTA
1. Rybakina (a shame that she has lost her way, all the off-court drama with Vukov and operating a coach carousel isn't helping, she doesn't grunt, hits a good ball, had a lethal serve, I hope she can rediscover her best form as she is needed at the top)

2. Bencic (she just comes across as likeable, nice to see her achieve good results ever since she came back to the game after becoming a mother)

3. Zheng (she's not out there to make friends, she says things as she sees it)

Zheng goes too far though. Like I think she would actually be better if she was a little less focused on trolling other players and doing catty stuff

Rybakina is a sad case indeed but as time goes on I find myself having less and less sympathy for her. The entire world now knows she’s been mistreated by her coach and she has told the world to F Off. She missed the moment to say “yes the rumors are true, thanks to the WTA for moving to protect me, I have a new coach who I don’t have to send daily nudes to, thank you all for your support”

Hoping to keep this positive with no arguments.
Right now, who do you consider to be your five favorite players...for whatever reason(s) -- stated or unstated?
Keep this a judgment-free and survey-free thread.

As it strikes me right now, mine would probably be:

ATP:
Carlitos
Novak
Fonseca
Musetti?
Shelton??

WTA: (Slight edit...I forgot about Madi Keys)
Raducanu
Swiatek
Muchova
Keys
Qinwen, Andreeva or Coco?
Only Sinner and Alcaraz are worthwhile on the current tour.
The others aren't worth it.
Hopefully, Fonseca won't be a disappointment in the medium and long term.
On the WTA, Swiatek is on the path to greatness.
:D

Sinner is a great all courter as he proved in Wimbledon final but you know Baseline backhand merchant rules the tennis in this era.
Never seen Sinner serve and volley tho, not once. Unlike Carlitos. And you’ve witnessed that Jannik was at Dimitrov’s mercy in that match.

My friend Sinner was injured against mugtrov . Btw Sinner won way more net points than Carlos in final :) Carlos used slice and Sinner was eating them alive , Sinner would have done same to dimi if he was not injured ;)

He is always “injured” when losing :-D And then back on court the following day like nothing happened :censored:

ATP
  1. Alcaraz
  2. Bublik
  3. Fonseca
  4. Shelton
  5. Draper
Caveat- Grigor would be on the list of he wasn't always injured. Love watching his brand of tennis.

WTA
  1. Coco
  2. Paolini
  3. Kalinskaya
  4. Svitolina
  5. Keys
