who can beat nadal in 2021 RG ?

I still wonder if we could've had a potential 3rd Nadal 5 setter in 2018 if the rain hadn't come in the 2nd set.
Eh, Nadal was absolutely terrible before the break, getting broken 5 times. Unless a miracle would happen, he was going to lose it in straights. Well, a miracle really happened with that delay. I admit Nadal was lucky to win RG that year. (not as much as in 2011, but still)

Same vs Zverev in the Rome final. I guess that's why it was mentioned over and over again how unfavourable the conditions were for Nadal in the 2020 edition. To the surprise of many, not only did he win, he slayed!

You are nothing if not dependable.

Only if he's injured, and/or with some serious psychological issue (like divorcing) and against a zoning Stan the Man, or Thiem, these are the only two guys that have the game to play him on clay, if the conditions are all against Rafa.
Novak already did it, but he lacks stamina for 5 sets against Rafa

Those who are sure Nadal wins 100%, and there are a lot of them, shouldn't miss opportunity to make fortune...

Odds are 2.1, so time to double life saving or house...

IMO, Nadal is heavy favorite, but anything can happen... As Novak fan, I have quite big expectations of RG... He will prepare something, be sure of that.... Now, laugh if you want... ;)

i really think 2021 RG will be so important for rafa
if rafa wins 2021 RG , nadal surpass fed 's 20 slam
anyway what i curious about is who can beat nadal in 2021 RG ?
i think thiem has best chance
second is probably novak djokovic

how do you think this one ?
If he is fit nobody. His aura after the last FO is unbreakable. People thought he was vulnerable in cold conditions with heavy balls and a roof. He won with ease.
Nobody will have the belief.

If I had to name players who "can" beat Rafa at RG, I'd say Tsitsipas and Zverev. Neither would be as intimidated facing Nadal as the other players would be. And with the AO win over Rafa, Stefanos might actually have confidence.

I don't laugh at that, it's a valid point. I completely disagree with the notion that Djokovic will be able to present a tight battle on RG against Nadal, but he even had O'Shaunessy on his team, so he will for sure try. I'm extremely confident on Nadal winning again, but this is sport, not physics, I won't put my life's work on the line, but thanks for the betting advise ;-)

Zverev should have to serve like he never had problems with it, with a confidence I don't think he can hold for 3 sets against one of the best returners. It is true that Tsitsipas' confidence might be on the rise, but let's not fool ourselves: every player knows they'll be playing Nadal at Roland Garros. and that in itself can make any player doubt at one point or another. They know he's one of the toughest guys to beat on any court, but the way he clocks in higher gears on the parisian clay is just mental and everybody knows that just by reading a single stat: 100-2.

Also, the way he won in 2020 was a way to tell everybody that he'll win regardless of the conditions. It's dependent only on Nadal himself. The sheer intimidation factor is massive.

Schwarzman is one of the players that can trouble Nadal the most on clay, but it has to be in relatively earlier rounds, no way he beats him in semis or the final. Thiem is the man to do it, he just doesn't seem quite ready yet. So far he managed to take a set in the final. He has to push him to 5 before he can dethrone him, so I it won't happen until 2023. That's my bold prediction.

No man can defeat the Bull.

So be it.

Past-prime Nadal no longer has the supreme mental fortitude when pressured. The problem is that past-prime Nadal has never been pressured at Roland Garros. Perhaps Zverev or Tsitsipas (who've never faced Rafa at RG, so have never lost to him there) will be that player.

Just like last year, right? ;)
He wasn't ready... Obviously... That was worst, melancholic Novak vs best Nadal in some time... Next time that probably won't be the case...

Anyway, put some money on Nadal if you are so sure in him... You can easily double amount... ;)

He wasn't ready...

:-D :-D :-D

Yes, that's why his coach said Nadal had no chance before the final, because Novak wasn't ready. At least come up with better excuses 8-B

I'll bet my account against yours, since you seem so sure that Novak will win too, how about that? I pick Nadal, you pick Novak.

Zverev?????!!! Ahhhhhh come on!! No chance :) Nole and Thiem most likely still.....

Can't think of anybody who can stop Nadal. Thiem could put up a challenge, but he's clowning around way too much these days.

Are you trolling me? I never said I am sure he will win... I said few times I think he has a chance, but Nadal is clear favorite...

Hey, I said "perhaps" ;)

BUT, I'd pick Zverev over Nole and Thiem, who have both proven beyond all doubt that they can't beat Rafa at RG (and no, 2015 doesn't count). And, I've always said that if Zverev gets over his mental block at the slams (I actually said "when" he gets over his mental block, but now think "if" is more accurate), RG will be his most successful.

Fair enough - Z wouldn’t even enter my mind as a competition to Rafa in 8/9 weeks - however we are all entitled to an opinion!

I think everyone on this board is tired of waiting an eternity for someone to finally step up to this guy at RG. Djokovic seemed to be the man to do it last year but then got manhandled.

Will somebody please finally slam a stake into this vampire??? God.

I was gonna say that that "if" was as sayin "if Kyrgios had Thiem's work ethic...", but he did play a great match vs Stefano in Acapulco... although that second serve would be massacred by Nadal. He was serving at 118km/h or so... he might be able to solve that, but I think that this RG would be too soon for that

to trouble/beat rafa you have to hit hard off both flanks and outlast him physically as well.........pissipas and muggydev can concentrate on winning 250 titles.........zverev is too inconsistent for the surface though he can hit hard at times........so thiem is the only one with a realistic chance whether you all like it or not, and that too he has to find rafa in a round before the final.........

I think Djokovic returns the favor from last year's bad performance/Rafa in top form beatdown and takes Nadal in 5 sets in an epic.

It would be insane. Let's see. I don't think the way the last final went is any indication of how the next match will go, if it's a RG final. They've played so many matches of every kind on basically every surface. Anyway, that's my pick, haha.
