Who can beat Nadal on grass now?

Ledigs

Legend
I just watched the highlights of the Wimbledon 2008 final. Both Fed and Nadal were playing at a great level for a lot of the match. I can't see anyone coming close to that level and Federer is on the decline.

Nadal has the opportunity to win at least 2 more Wimbledons before someone could possibly come along.

Djokovic
Federer
Roddick
Murray
Del Potro
Berdych

Any of these players have a chance?

By the way, what an awesome match that was. I think tomorrow I'm going to make some lasagna and watch it again after work.

djoko and delpo aren't that good on grass. berdych can't touch nadal since 2006. federer has the best chance but theres the matchup issue. roddick could only if he played his very best (which seems to be past him) murray has a small chance too, but he plays better on hard. so basically i think that theres a >90% chance either fed or rafa wins wimbledon for the next few years

it's funny to me about murray, for a while it was like... oh my god someone is beating federer!!!!!111one. and then he never did anything again

Murray is Nadal's biggest challenge. I cannot believe del Potro is mentioned in this thread, he won't even make it to the fourth round at Wimbledon let alone challenge Nadal.

After Murray, I would say Federer is perhaps the next biggest threat.

Having said that, Rafa is playing better now than he ever has on hardcourt, so the head2heads don't mean much. But Djokovic is the biggest threat, and the US Open showed that, it was an extremely close and tense match, and Djokovic proved how clutch he was by saving 20 of 26 breakpoints (mostly with clean winners), and converting 3 of the 4 he had on Rafa's serve. A player that clutch is always dangerous.

IIRC, those 26 breakpoints were in 6 games ... djoker played well on the BPs mostly, but as soon as it came to deuce/advantage djoker, he slipped ( played badly ) and let rafa back into those games ...

Federer can beat him for sure. I'm not convinced that Nadal's game is back at the Wimby 2008 level. Except for the serve, which is better of course.

Murray is biggest threat. Actually I think the only threat at the moment. I cant see Federer or Roddick beating Nadal at Wimbledon in the future. Federer looks done on grass, his grass court game was awful this year. I think he will mostly focus on the hard courts from here. Roddick just isnt a big grand slam threat anymore. Maybe he is a threat to Nadal if they play at Queens or Halle but I dont think that is what you are referring to.

Djokovic and Del Potro arent good enough on grass. Djokovic is good on grass but not good enough to have any real chance to beat Nadal at Wimbledon. Soderling will probably never beat Nadal again in a slam. And Berdych is no threat to Nadal on any surface.

I think only fully fit Federer. (Soderling when zoning is a big threat too but I think he could only push him to 5 at very best)
