Who do you want to win a Grand Slam title?

merwy

G.O.A.T.
Name the top 5 or 10 players whom you want to win (another) GS title in their career? Who do you think deserves it the most and who do just want to win one because you like them so much? It has to be a bit realistic obviously, so no Stepanek, Tursunov or Murray (jk).

1. Federer. 18 is an even number and sounds better than 17 haha. There's always room for one more.

2. Del Potro. I didn't like Roddick winning his only slam so soon in his career and then never winning another one. Don't want the same to happen to Delpo. And I think he can improve a bit and get himself in the top 4 to challenge the rest. Hope he can really establish himself there and win 3 or 4.

3. Wawrinka. Unrealistic, but he would like it so much. Has to get his head together though. I do think he deserves it though, if you look at how well this guy can play on a good day. He also seems like a hard worker but I don't know that for sure obviously.

4. Nishikori. It is possible if you look at his competition in a couple of years. He just has to stop getting injured. Would be so cool to see an Asian player win a slam.

5. Janowicz. Don't even like him that much as a player, but his passion is incredible. He can't even talk after winning a match sometimes. Imagine him at the speech he has to give after he wins Wimbledon ;)

Obviously Federer. I would love to see him win another Wimbledon and then retire there. However, any major would do.

I would also like to see Nole and Andy win more majors, which they obviously will. I'm hoping that Nole wins a major outside of the AO next year, preferably the French Open beating Nadal in the final to complete his career slam. As far as Andy is concerned, I wanna see him conquer the AO after 3 final losses there. He deserves to win it at least once imo.

And Delpo for the same reasons as the ones in the OP.

I wouldn't mind seeing Berdych win a major too. Yeah, I know he is a bit of a jerk, but I love the way he hits his forehand so I'm hoping that he can overcome his mental fanboy demons and finally win a major.

Dimitrov becasue of his similar playing style to Federer. Duh!

Yeah I forgot to mention that I want Djokovic to win RG. Preferably against Nadal in the final. That way the king of clay will know what it feels like to stand at the prize ceremony as #2.
I also like Berdych's clean hitting, but don't like the fact that it's so hit or miss with him. Sometimes he's playing against a top 3 player and I see him hitting easy putaways into the net with 200km/h. As if he's just bashing everything and hoping enough lands in to win the match.

Well, unless he wins 20, I don't know how much difference it will make if Federer has 17 or 18. Rather than winning just one, I hope he wins 3!

However, the players I really want to see winning are the young ones, the next generation of players like Raonic, Janowicz, Dimitrov, Tomic or Delbonis. They need to setp it up and be in the mix to make men's tennis even more entertaining.

Of the more established players, I think Murray deserves more titles and I think by the end of his career, he should win at least 6. Nadal should win a couple more French to solidify his position as all time clay king. Djokovic needs 5 more slams to be discussed as one of the all time greats. Delpo needs to win more, and I think Berdych should win one, but most of all, I want to see Ferrer win any GS, especially French Open!

It would be great if Nole is to win the FO by defeating Nadal along the way. I don't want Nadal fans to diminish his RG triumph like they diminish Fed's incredible 2009 triumph.

Federer - he deserves 20, but 18 is a start
Tsonga - so entertaining
Wawrinka - anything for that backhand
Berdych - is that forehand for real ?
Dmitrov - we need the legacy to be carried forward.

respectable additions - Tomic and Murray

Reality - Nadal will win two and Novak the other two. 2014 is going to be a disaster.

Murray, Djokovic,Nadal and Del potro.
They deserves to win more slams as they have the skills to do it.
Just because someone reach semifinals a couple of times will I not going that sympathic road. And yes, I am a woman ;) A win is a win. That is the wonderful simplicity of sport.

Well these players are pretty nice as well as skilled so that kind of covers both "roads" anyway ;) Nadal really should stop winning Slams quickly. He can't be GOAT, he's not right for it, he wouldn't be able to handle the responsibility.

I think you forgot Murray. He can win one next year. Also, I expect some upset win happens in 2014, whoever it is that does that.

Though i want him to win a major , i think given the back surgery , My gut feeling is 2014 will probably not be his year. I would like to be wrong.

I dont see any upsets happening.

I think Murray will be 80% by AO and close to 100% by FO, unless it is a career threatening problem. He has good chance of repeating his success at Wimbledon or USO, IMHO.

It is not as likely as Nadal or Djokovic, but Delpo can be a threat next year, I think. Also, you never know what youngsters are capable of because they improve quite quickly. I agree there are still some ways before they become genuine threat, but who knows if one of them has a crazy fortnight and wins a slam next year? Or, who knows some kid we've never heard of before wins a slam? I would never say no.

I am a huge Nadal fan! Was a Federer fan, and I still like him alot. Federer is a good guy.
I think Rafa can be just as good goat as Roger. Maybe they both will end up being the goat so stupid fans can argue with this to end of time

I want Djokovic to win slams. That is all.
Murray or Delpo I would not mind, but only if it is not at the expense of Djokovic winning more slams.

Federer had enough.

I DO NOT want Nadal or Janowicz to win slams.

Federer- Just to troll the people who doubt him.

Tsonga- Flashy player....want to see him show the poise he had against Nadal in Melbourne and Federer in Wimbledon,French.

Delpo- The guy has been back to his great form for a 2 years...would love to see another slam down.

Roddick- If he ever comes back.

Dimitrov....cause he is a young one handed backhand player.

Fed- If he could win an AO, SW19, and USO, he would hold the records (no ties) for 4 of the big 5 events.

Rafa- 13 slams is too few for this guy! I'd like to see 3 more, spread out nicely, and at least another SW19!

Nole- "only" 6? I would love to see him reach double digits, with a RG win in there

Murray- 2 slams in this era is WAAAY more in others... maybe 5 total would be cool

Dimitrov- Baby Fed getting ALL the slams after Fedalovurray? I like it ;) - 10 slams!

Me- well I think I could use a boost in my current slam count... so I'll say 4 more for me, all in a row... winning all of the masters and the olympic gold and the WTF in that year, then retiring ;)

Nole - Probably want him to win another one the most...6 seems to low for him.
Fed - just one more, anywhere, to show that the old man has still got it.
Nadal - too skilled and determined to not win more, and him keeping the heat on the slam record will make it more interesting
Delpo - nice guy, big game, deserves at least 1 or 2 more
Wawrinka - would be such a great story and to throw a big wrench into dominance of the slams from the "big" named players

I'd like DelPo to have another one. At least one more. Maybe even Wimbledon.

I would love to see Ferru win the US Open.
I'm not sure he thinks he can win (I know he thinks he can't win at RG, and if Rafa's playing, he's probably right) but he's made the semis twice -- 2007 and 2012.

Anyone other than who has been winning them. I have nothing against the top guys, would just be good to see someone else win one.

Pretty much this^. Add Murray to Djokovic for the same reasons, althuogh I find Djokovic the better player myself. I would like to see Djoko win the FO.
Delpo deserves at least 1 more GS.

Of new GS winners, I am hoping for:
-Haas
-Tsonga
-Wawrinka
-Haase (;))

like rosol vs nadal?

FEDERER. That will reduce the insecurity of Fed trolls a bit and there will be less trashing of Nadal here.

Murray: I think his talent deserves a few more. I would especially like him to win a second Wimbledon and also finally crack the AO after 3 near misses.

Djokovic: I'd like him to win at least the FO and so complete his career Grand Slam.

Federer: At least one more for the gipper before he calls it quits! Why not?

Nadal: I'd like to see him win at least another AO and so complete a multi-titled sweep of all 4 Grand Slams.

Del Potro: Why not? He is the only top 10 player outside of the top 4 to have won a Slam title. Would be nice to see him go on another 2009 style run.

Ferrer: He's just too consistent and hard-working not to deserve the ultimate prize. At least one before he retires.

The rest can wait until all these guys have left the stage!

1. Juan Martin - too good not to win at least 10 majors.
2. Andy Murray - when on, a lot better player than Rafa and djerkovic IMO.
3. Nadal - I want him to equal Fed.

Stepanek
Llodra
Tsonga

edit: oops, sorry, posted without reading the first post. Says "top 5 or 10".
