Djokovic at 2015 canada and cincinnati finals faced Murray and Federer, or he would have won 11 consecutive Masters with Sinner's competition

Record is record.
Sinner can only play with the opponent at the other side of court.
FEDERER won FO without beating Rafa .
Can we say his FO is weak.
Sinner is playing some TOP tier tennis . If you can enjoy it that is fine.
If somebody doesn't enjoy than take a break and come again when Alcaraz come back

Djokovic no doubt, but if Sinner somehow gets CYM1000, even without facing Alcaraz again, I think this will be considered harder to achieve than Djokovic's IW - Cincinatti trail, even though Djokovic had to face Nadal 4 times, Fed once and Murray once.

CYM 1000 winning 9 masters in a year.
I will say it is more difficult than CYGS.
Forget about competition the amount of matches one has to play ?

Numbers are numbers, but only when it is comparable in terms of draw sizes.

Sinner won more with the caveat being Rome and Madrid have 96 player draw now, making for one easy match with an unseeded player each.

Still it is a great run. But he's gonna have an asterisk over his career with the failed drug tests. So not much to say.

If we're talking about what we might consider the equivalents of the Masters 1000 tournaments in the 1980s and early 1990s, neither of the two players mentioned had it as tough as Lendl.

Until 1981, Lendl was up against the prime-form Borg. Then, until 1983, it was Connors, and finally, until 1985, McEnroe.

He also faced Wilander at his best from 1985 until 1989, plus the top-form Becker and Edberg from 1989 until the Czech retired.

From the early 1990s onwards, he also had to contend with Agassi, Sampras, Courier and Chang.

Is the question irrelevant to YOU though?

I surely find it irrelevant because Sinner is facing stronger competition than Djokovic did in the 2020-2023 era

Djokovic's competiton was Zverev and Mugvedev
Sinner's competition is Djokovic and Alcaraz

So it is an irrelevant question

Djokovic pretty clearly, but he also skipped MC which could have made the run considerably shorter.

Or longer, as a matter of fact. :D

Man was on a rampage. Add to this run AO and Wimbledon win and it's brutal how many times he defeated Nadal and won almost everything during the run apart from Rolan Garros because of the Swiss maestro.

I don't know but Sinner is basically knocking all these out in an hour and a half each.
Sinner has only dropped 2(!!) sets in his win streak compared to Djokovic's 8.
But Djokovic on the otherhand gave his opponents an impressive 7 bagel and 11 breadstick sets compared to Sinner's 3 and 8.

@Hitman told me that only numbers matter, who had it tougher is not relevant, so this question is irrelevant. @ND-13 would agree with me.

I am already seeing the “Numbers are numbers” brigade embracing context now that records are beginning to evaporate .

It is funny to see the change in stance .

Some other folks characterize Sinner as boring , machine , clostobel all as coping mechanism

I hope Sinner erases all of Djokovic's numbers but he won't be able to, because he is not that good enough, but then who knows?... in this era of weak next gens he could if he finds great longevity into the 30s with no good rivals below him but it is a huge ask. He needs to work a lot on his stamina. Maybe he even needs to contact Nadal/Alcaraz's doctor Cotorro.

It will be fitting if Sinner/Alcaraz crush Djokovic's numbers because homogenization always produced better numbers, Fed tore Sampras's numbers, then Djokovic and Nadal went past Federer's numbers due to 90s gen. All we need is a 5th slam and then Sinner can do it for sure. Nobody will care if the past players did it with 4 slams, always the new guys will be rated ahead.

Then any records broken will have a permanent asterisk so go ahead.

There are no asterisks bud

The young guys don't care for context

You will be seen as an old geezer rambling, if you try to lecture kids born today about how the past guys did it in 4 slams setup etc .... for the younger crowd Djokovic is just stale air, they just want to open the windows and send him out.

Numbers are numbers.

Djokovic knew there was talk of a 5th major coming up.

So may be he should stay on tour a little longer

I think it’s a disrespect to the players of the past to create a fifth slam. Not to mention the lack of prestige. 4 slams is perfect.

We don’t need the Saudis to suck the soul out of tennis.

Disrespect to the past ???

Why did you promote the Australian Open into a regular slam, enhance careers into 30s of athletes by homogenization and then count Djokovic's numbers or Big 3's numbers ???

You disrespected the past, didn't you ? So we reap what we sow, future generatons don't owe the BIg 3 anything, I would say give 5th slam to Italy and give 6th slam to Saudi Arabia.

Lets have 6 slams !!!

2011 Nole farms Rafa
2026 Sinner farms Zverev

Not much difference, I guess? ;)

credits to djoker defeating much tougher opponents
well
it just shows again that these statistics are meaningless and cannot objectively show the reality of competitiveness
crybabies
either accept
your idol sooner or later will not be the greatest as records show or
greatness should not be measured by statistics

sinner is difficult to break most records of djoker who does have the most successful career despite the shxt era since 2020
however, sinner has a big chance of winning the slam race
i look forward to how those crybabies flooding statistics to explain djoker is greater (though i dont agree greatness conparison is meaningful)

The thing is, with Alcaraz recovering and then 39 y/o Djokovic not caring a single bit about Masters, Sinner is gonna be an even bigger favorite during the indoor HC season.

All of the folks chosing "option 2" are just doing it because they hate Djokovic. There is no chance in hell you believe in it.

Will be hilarious when his run is ended by Casper Ruud
I actually think Medvedev will beat him in the semis. :-D

On the other hand, I see many users who don't like Djokovic came here to say how numbers are numbers. The topic is not which run is longer, obviously it's Sinner's and I am not discrediting him. One of the users is actually a guy who in his signature says money, fame, popularity matters when we determine who is the greatest ever, so he is a little bit hypocritical it seems about this topic. In my opinion, numbers are numbers, especially in Djokovic's case because he obtained those numbers while competing directly against his main opponents in the GOAT race.

But if Sinner, or Alcaraz, or whoever, succeeds in obtaining 25 slams, with more than 40 masters, more than 428 weeks at number 1, more than 7 ATP finals titles, he will clearly be the greatest of all time, even if he comes from Djibouti and has 73 supporters around the world. That's the point of sport, being the best amongst competitors, not how popular or famous you are, this isn't Hollywood.

I am happy with my life and my life isn't shaped by Djokovic's success. I rooted for him when he was slamless and I doubt he would ever win a slam. I never imagined he would win 10, or that he could even come close to any of Federer and Nadal's record by that time. I was lucky my favorite player become a monster and ended up as the greatest ever and I am happy for Novak. Boy he did deserve that after all he endured during both his childhood years and professional career. But I would be more than willing to acknowledge if in the future new tennis star smash all his records, to me he will be the greatest tennis player of all time, and Djokovic would simply be one of the greatest, as Nadal and Federer are. But there can only be one on the top at any given time, and today, yesterday and many days to come, that is for now Novak Djokovic.

Yeah and you are trolling again. Age gap is not 14 months, it's 14 freaking years. When Sinner was born Djokovic might have lost his virginity for God's sake.

That's not the actual part of the troll though....

He is still counting 2 exho matches as legit official matches to give Sinner the 7 matches, when we all know the real H2H between them is 6-5....so if Sinner didn't even beat Djokovic 7 times in total ever, how did he win 7 matches in a row?

I don't know if you want to call it trolling or just flat of lying, take your pick.

Djokovic would have won 5-6 majors last 2 years without SinneraZ. No age excuses please

Era comparisons are useless and never work.
Who's better?
2001 Ravens defense or the 2014 Seahawks Legion of Boom
2001 Lakers or 96 Bulls team vs Warriors 2015 team

Put Djokovic back in the 90s he wouldn't have that type of defense, backhand or serve. He'd lose to Becker, Goran, Chang, etc.

Players can only play those who are in the same draw or era.
