This question wouldn't have arrived at first place if Zverev didn't squandered 2 sets and a break lead in last years USO final. He served for the match but choked

On the otherhand....Thiem had made 3 slam Finals...and would have won 2019 FO and 2020 AO if not for Djokodal. Thiem is the only guy who has 3 wins against big 3 in slams.

Based on Slam performance thiem has a better resume ...but If Zverev wins 1 of the upcoming slams he will be miles ahead of thiem with those 4 master 1000+1 WTF and OG.

Most importantly zverev has age on his side as he is 3 years younger to thiem.

Z did not have any CPs in the USO 2020 final.

Z served for the match at 5-3, but was broken.
Thiem served for the match at 6-5, but was broken.

4 years even.

I picked Z with the thinking of where Thiem was at the same age. It's possible Z won't win much in the future, but at the present I think it's likely he will eventually have a better record. And the fact that Thiem has won nothing this year is not a good indication that his future will be stellar.

Zverev is a WTF champion, 2-time Madrid champion, Rome champion, and Canada champion. He beat the Big-3 five times in winning these 5 titles.

I don't think Thiem's fluke slam title trumps this.
Thiem has beaten Djokovic & nadal at slams. Sascha has yet to beat a TOP10 player at slams, let alone big3.

Zverev never had championship points in the USO Final last year, gentleman.

Yes, he beat a Big-3 at a slam (Nole at RG/Nadal at the AO), only to later fall to a Big-3 at that slam (Nadal at RG/Nole at the AO). The point I was making is the same: The formula to winning slams hasn't been about beating Top-10s (players often go far at a slam without even facing a volatile Top-10), but about beating the Big-3. This formula was broken at 2020 USO only because of the fluke DQ.

Yeah but Thiem is still more accomplished than sascha at this point, gentleman.
Sascha is very vulnerable to mental lapses in BO5 even though his peak level is highest than everyone on tour at this moment.

Not sure that 1 GS win (against Zverev) and a few other GS finals are enough to justify Thiem ahead of Zverev.

Zverev now has 7 Big titles (5 masters, 1 WTF, 1 Olympics). That is in my opinion better than 1 Slam + 3 Slam Finals + 1 masters.

Zverev can absolutely end the debate with 1 GS though. He will be so far ahead.

Zverev has some great all round achievements. It's impressive. Very underrated considering how he gets treated.

It's a hard one for me. Obviously a slam title is the biggest thing and 4 other finals, but Zverevs all roundness is hard to ignore and the fact that he wins when it matters most of the time (the finals). For me it isn't just about a slam title. Zverev is a Masters champion, Olympic champion and World champion (YECs) in tennis. Thiem has had 2 good chances at YECs, had many great chances to win several masters, even another slam title he had a good chance at in AO 2020. But fact is those didn't result in titles. They are quite even IMO.
Thiem has beaten Djoker and Rafa at the slams, something Zverev has not done.

Thiem was hella lucky to win that slam. His playing style is brainless, Zverev all the way, not even shadow of a doubt.
