Who has beaten the most grand slam champions [current+future] in a single tournament?

I just realized that Nalbandian beat 4 grand slam champions (Del Potro, Nadal, Djokovic, and Federer) in route to winning Madrid 2007. Has anyone beaten more? The tally can include people who hadn't won a GS at the time but went on to win one later.
 
Gustavo Kuerten also beat 4 at Cincinnati 2001: Roddick, Ivanisevic, Kafelnikov, and Rafter,

and Ivanisevic beat 4 at Wimbledon 2001: Moya, Roddick, Safin, Rafter.

Doesn't exactly count if they hadn't yet won a slam.

I mean what if i had beat Fed, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Delpotro, Wawrinka and Hewitt on route to winning the under 10's NEW_BORN tennis challenge invitational.

Wouldn't exactly mean a whole lot.
 
I can think of 2010 and 2012 WTF where Federer and Djokovic beat 3 slam champions on route to the title respectively.
 
Laver beat 4 at AO in 1969 and 4 at Wim 1969 en route to his GS. In the challenge series in 1971 he beat 5.

The same can be said if a player beats a former slam champion way past his prime.

I guess it should be narrowed down to wins against former/future slam champions while they are ranked in the top 5.

That's not true. Dominic Hrbaty leads Fedal in the h2h and is regarded very highly on these boards.

This will be misleading. A guy can beat Sampras at RG and is made to look like a goat lol beating a 14 GS champion :).

I think we should use if they are top 5 only on that surface. And if they won a slam on that surface.

I mean beating Roddick at RG is not the same as at USO, for example.

In my opinion each match should be counted on its own merit.

For eg: Federer beat Djokovic USO2007, even though Djokovic was not a slam champion at that point, he certainly played well enough to be considered a slam champion based on that match alone.

On the other hand, Federer beat Djokovic Cinci2012, even though Djokovic was the holder of 2 slam trophies at that point, he certainly did not perform up to his standards in that particular match.

Every player has their off days.

Yeah, good point. Also matchups are important. For example, this year Tsonga, Murray wouldn't be tough for Fed. He defeated them without trouble.
Even Wawrinka is not that terrible for Fed.

But for Nadal those guys could be a nightmare matchups for AO. All three have beaten him at AO. Including Ferrer.

Not Djokovic's fault he encountered peak Federer in his first GS final. Had it been somone else he most likely would have won that slam.

He had chances even against Federer though
 
I found another who beat 5, but I had to look a ways back: Lendl beat Noah, Gomez, Edberg, Wilander, and Becker at the 1986 WTF. Looking for more is too tiring so I think I'll stop :oops:
 
Canas beat Federer, Srichaphan, Kafelnikov, Safin, Haas, and Roddick to win the 2002 Canada Masters. That is 4 GS Champs and 2 very solid players. Definitely one of the hardest draws ever.
