As a Federer and Nadal fan, I feel it has been a privilege to watch these two play. They have produced the greatest match of all time at Wimbledon 2008, and it shows Nadal's strengths the fact that he was able to push Prime Federer to 5 sets the year before at Wimbledon 2007.

There are many claims that Nadal has defeated a lot of pigeons to win his grand slams, people often mention Beretinni for example, but why are we forgetting Federer from 2003 to 2006 had no competition on most surfaces. Roddick and Philiposus, with the greatest respect, are not all time greats competitors. Nadal was very young then and outside of clay, not very competitive.

Nadal had Prime Federer to deal with at the beginning and then Prime Djokovic in 2011 - by which time Federer won most of his slams.

So who defeated more pigeons out of Federer and Nadal?

To be serious, how do you determine who is a pigeon and who isn't? Some players are pigeons against one of the two while they may be tougher opponents against the other
Thank you. This "pigeon" thing is the height of poster arrogance. One may recall that until Nadal beat him Berrettini was being chatted up by many as the next Big Thing, brimming with talent and power. Losing to Nadal hardly renders you pigeon status.

He might be the GOAT now, but I like to err on the side of caution when considering "all-time" as cross era comparison's are more messy then New Years is going to be.
It's a toughie when the acronym "GOAT" includes the words "all time".

Neither. Both Federer and Nadal deserve every slam they've won.

'Pigeons', whatever the hell that means, don't get to grand slam finals. You, I and everyone else that belittles players here are the true pigeons.

Not if you're staying chez moi this year. ;) I'm actually saving myself for a double celebration on January 31st - my birthday and you know what the other thing is!! :giggle:

What is your top 10 of all time?
In no order;

Fed, Laver, Pancho, Nadal, Djokovic, Sampras, Rosewall, Tilden, Borg - 10th is between Kramer and Lendl, maybe Connors.

It's a toughie when the acronym "GOAT" includes the words "all time".
Yeah, I tried to give credit where I can and if I value time at #1 highly like I do then Pancho has to be right at the top for me.

Well considering how close Nadal is...
I don't really subscribe to the notion of GOAT anyway.
I don't think Nadal is that close but that's another can of worms lol.

You forgot to add Andy Murray in your top 10 of all time otherwise it’s a good list.

Excellent top 10 list. I would personally place Agassi somewhere in the top 10 list because he achieved the Career Grand Slam (winning all 4 Slams) in the 1990s. He also won the ATP finals and Olympic Gold in singles. Such a complete resume.

Made to look worse by the big 3. Met them non stop I think 85 meetings from 2005-2017.
Peak level not high enough. Nah Shanghai 2010 and Olympics 2012 say it was. Wawrinka could have got if he better at masters level.

I don't rate Agassi that highly (relatively speaking), I have him between Lendl, Connors and Mac - only one year at #1 hurts him immensely in all time comparisons IMO.

Fed's "pigeons", with Slam winners and their # in bold:

Philipoussis, Baghdatis (was #6 that yr), Gonzo, Safin (2), Roddick (1), Soderling, Cilic (1).

Rafa's "pigeons", with Slam winners and their # in bold:

Puerta, Soderling, Berdych, Ferrer, Anderson, Thiem x2, Medvedev.

So outside of the Big 3 and players like Roddick and Agassi, Federer has had a tougher road.

Three of his pigeons already had Slam titles to their credit when he met and defeated them.

Rafa...outside of Federer, Djokovic and Wawrinka has never faced a Slam-winning player in a Final.

I was joking lol. I rate Murray a lot higher than Wawrinka (who I rate below the likes of Roddick and way below my boy Hewitt).

Nope. Non of my friends voted for Brexit. A few family members did but I don't really talk to them about it :-D
I just wouldn't like to think of you as one of those really bitter Remainers who cuts all ties with anyone close to them just because they happened to vote for Brexit - I find stories like that so sad. My next-door neighbour is a Remainer and we get on great. :)

I agree but not by a huge margin. Wawrinka case is a high peak at the slams AO/RG and he is actually very good at the USO too. Roddick was very consistent and Hewitt was injury handicapped for so many years.

Nah I wouldn't cut ties with someone over it. But I won't lie it does colour my opinion of them - though that would depend on their reasoning to a degree.

Didn’t know peak Federer and peak Djokovic are weak competition.
At RG they are. Fed won 1 set at most in 4/6 RG matches and got owned in the others, including a humiliation in 2008. That’s pigeon status.

Djokovic did well once in 2013, so I suppose you can call that a tough slam.

13/19 for Nadal

AO18 wasn’t too hard for Fed so he has 10/20.Rafa still facemore pigeons.

Some people are so pathetic though. They go hyperbolic on both sides.

Whether it’s is the remainders who claim the country is doomed and the economy will collapse without the EU

Or the leavers who claim we have no control over being absorbed into an EU superstate and have no control over immigration etc.

Personally I dislike the EU as an institution, but could see the benefits of it when it comes to freedom of movement and trade. If they weren’t so arrogant, brexit would never have happened.

EU certainly has its flaws. But most of the arguments for leaving are poorly framed or based on misinformation...

I just hope you won't treat me differently when we interact with one another in the future.
