Congrats to Jannik! I think he virtually have sealed the deal on year end no.1 with today's results. Sinner still can earn more points in Shanghai, while the nearest player to him on points, Alcaraz, was upset and now has to play a 250 event to have any chance of catching Sinner. If sinner wins Shanghai, I think the race to year end no.1 will be over. The two players are now 3,020 points apart, Sinner in the lead, and even if Sinner doesn't play any match from this point onwards, Alcaraz should win Basel/Vienna, Paris, another 250 event, and then win Turin without losing any matches. That in itself will be extremely difficult, but Sinner just needs to win Shanghai to mathematically make it impossible to lose YE#1. 2 more matches for Jannik. He has been no.1 for a good part of 2024, so with 2 slams each, I think Sinner has had the better year.

See, what happened today is exactly why Sinner is number #1 with almost 4000 bonus points. Alcaraz beats him in an outstanding final in a 500, but then he is upset by some lower ranked player the following week in a much more important tournament. Not saying Machac is a mug but it isn't the first time Alcaraz loses to these kind of players in 2024. It's not even his worst defeat, by the way. I'd say Monfils Monteiro and BVDZ were worse. But Unless Machac also beats Sinner, it's an ugly loss for Carlitos and that's why he won't be number 1 at the end of the year. Here you have your answers.

Sinner, if 'greater' means superior in terms of tournament wins, if it doesn't then it doesn't really mean anything.

True, but tendentious.
Here is a player that Alcaraz has beaten 3-0 this year, he's called Jannik Sinner.

Sinner has been far more consistent than Alcaraz this year, we all know it, no need to start dredging up evidence in a case that's pretty open and shut.

Sinner is 61-6 this year, and you say Alcaraz is more consistent? At what?

Curiosities of Sinneraz in this 2024.

The tournaments they have played simultaneously so far in 2024 have been 10, of these 10 they have won 9, the only one they did not win was in Madrid but with an asterisk due to Sinner's withdrawal when he was in the running (qf). If Sinner and Alcaraz compete, the history of the season says that Alcaraz wins, if Alcaraz comes out first, the history of this season says that Sinner wins the tournament. This is all incredible.

In the updated ranking between Sinner(1) and Alcaraz(2) there are approximately 4800 points of difference (I remember that the 400 IW points were taken away from the Italian) which is approximately the same gap that there is between Alcaraz(2) and Draper(19). Incredible.

Poll is still open lol

There should be zero votes for Alcaraz is people are honest.

1. Alcaraz went 3-0 on Sinner and beat Djoko in a GS F
2. Alcaraz gave his all at the OG
3. Alcaraz didn't test positive for PEDs
4. Alcaraz beat Tsitsipas-Sinner-Zverev to win his first RG
5. Alcaraz completed the surface slam

Sinner ruled hard courts yes. But Alcaraz beat tougher opponents to win his Slams and has won the most prestigious ones

TLDR
3-0 got it

0 votes should go for Alcaraz.

No, but he beat the guys who beat Alcaraz. Stop the H2H silliness, you are better than that.

You think I'm just arguing h2h? Let's review their QF-SF-F draws shall we

Sinner AO: Rublev-Djoko-Med

Sinner USO: Med-Draper-Fritz

Alcaraz Wimbledon: Paul-Med-Djoko

Alcaraz RG: Tsitsi-Sinner-Zverev

Sinner's USO path was by far the weakest Slam run. And he didn't beat Alcaraz at all

When Fed went winless in a season against Djoko it was "DJOMINATION" and when he went winless in a season against Rafa he was Rafa's pigeon

Now h2h is somehow beneath us? C'mon
