IMO Wawrinka's backhand is aesthetically an abomination.

I think it's time to step away from the keyboard for a second and take a deep breath.

On topic: Gulbis and Tomic. Gulbis for obvious reasons. His technique is outrageous. Tomic has developed this weird flat bunting style on his forehand. Very strange.

Check out the backhands of Federer, Dimitrov, Lopez, Almagro, Sampras, Edberg and Becker. THOSE were shots of beauty. Wawrinka's...I guess some people find horsepower more beautiful than a sleek bugatti.

Nadal's FH IMO. But looking asthetically, not how good it is. Just by pure looks, not the ugliest though, but one of. It just seems unnatural.

Murray's forehand, I appreciate the weapon but I don't like the look of it plus Volandri's serve...it's yukkkk

Says who ? Why is that considered as truth or the rule, why we all must agree that Federer has the most beautiful game and the most beautiful shots ?

I see him like very young Novak saw him https://youtu.be/MlNk4qbNKKk?t=182
As smug character and at the same time - comical in his smugness.

you can hate his character, his looks, appearance, etc... you can also find mirka repulsive.... but when it comes to technical aspect and aesthetics of his shots - allow yourself to state the obvious.

No love for Murray FH and Murray second serve ?

Errani serve is obvious. Nicolescu and Radwanska are very artistic.

Rafa's moonball with top spin is cringeworthy, but gets the 14 majors

-Gulbis FH is in league of his own
-Feliciano Lopez FH is such ugly shot
- Nadals BH is underrated here in terms of pure uglyness.

Honorable mentions
- Cilic serve motion is also ugly, although he improved his serve as shot itself.
- Milos's BH is unwatchable most of the time.
- Novak used to have ugly slice, but improved a lot that shot in both aestheticness and effectiveness terms.

PS, yes Murray 2 serve , weak and ugly at the same time

I don't care about his looks, appearance, or care about Mirka. Some players play the same shots as he does, with difference that everybody (Federer also) give it their own posture or signature. Why is so difficult for you to understand Federer's game is not my cup of tea ?

Florian Mayer has pretty horrible mechanics to me.
Marcel Granollers serve and forehand are really bad too.
The American Topspin Forehand in general (Sock and Harrison)
Raonic Serve and Forehand (Too elaborate)
Hyeon Chung's forehand
Gulbis forehand
Marsel Ilhan all around.
Diego Schwartzman

Djokovic's slice is still one of the more forced and awkward slices on tour in terms of aesthetics. It looks pretty damn strange.

Nor his mine, but people here interpreted as hatred:rolleyes: towards him.
LOL that countless BH shanks:)

It looks much better than in the past.
He outsliced Murray in every of their recent encounters , yet Murray slice counts for one of the best on the tour especially among two handed BHs.

This thread could be a bloodbath I am not sure whos are the worst as a whole I know I cringe watching Guilbis and Raonic's strokes in general....To me the ohbh guys tend to look more fluid minus Stan whos is all brute most of the time (which in its own way is fun to watch). I do like watching Murray's game though his take back on bh is not always clean.

Haha that video is even funnier looking back at it now. To see the -now all grown up- Novak Djokovic kid around like that and make fun of his future rival. Nobody knew back then that that comical brat would stand in Fedal's way like he's done the last couple of years.

-Gulbis FH is in league of his own
-Feliciano Lopez FH is such ugly shot How? Just looks a bit oldschool to me, pretty cool actually
- Nadals BH is underrated here in terms of pure uglyness. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cdQLPbxcpk I guess I see why one would think that. But personally I like his backhand a lot, in terms of aesthetics. Like how he turns his left shoulder foreward and then throws his entire body into the shot. Looks really powerful.

Honorable mentions
- Cilic serve motion is also ugly, although he improved his serve as shot itself.
- Milos's BH is unwatchable most of the time. Oh god I hate Milos' shots, especially the backhand indeed. Totally agree here.
- Novak used to have ugly slice, but improved a lot that shot in both aestheticness and effectiveness terms. Yeah looks a little awkward indeed. But for some reason I like his awkward unbalanced shots. Reminds me of the Drunken master Shanghai exhibition. And it fits his bendy, flexible image.

PS, yes Murray 2 serve , weak and ugly at the same time

Granollers and Florian Mayer came to my mind.

I like watching Gulbis' gull-wing forehand. Can't say that it is pretty, but it is different.

LOL I also like that awkward Novaks slice , but I'm fan of his, so it's unforgiveable here to say anything positive about him.On similar way I really like whole Florian 's wicked game.

Well it must be hate. That's why we have just one genre in art (music, painting, sculpting, writing).

Haha that video is even funnier looking back at it now. To see the -now all grown up- Novak Djokovic kid around like that and make fun of his future rival. Nobody knew back then that that comical brat would stand in Fedal's way like he's done the last couple of years.

It's strange indeed. I wanted to start a topic with that video at top, what it meant then and how it was interpreted by people Novak immitated.

I would say that you are careful observer of the game. :) Respect!
About Feliciano FH, it's too spiny but still weak shot, doesn't get along with his whole game. I find it as odd combo.
Nadal BH is ugly but not in a beautiful way, to me:), but I agree with your description of it.

Here comes an unpopular opinion!

I do not like the aesthetics of Richard Gasquet's strokes. We already know about the forehand but the backhand looks WAY too exuberant and over the top for what it really is.
