Who here plays with 93?

Hello
Anyone here plays with a 93 head size? I ordered a Prestige 360+ with 93 head size. I wanted to go for control and generate my own power.

Please share experiences and strings suggestions. Currently I am thinking to out on Krischbaum Max Power Rough or Babolat RPM blast.

Thanks

I occasionally play with my Phantom 93P. Love hitting with that frame but it's a tough one to compete with, especially in doubles. Not enough forgiveness for the returns, reflex volleys and digs. But man it feels good to nail a FH with that frame.

The prestige mid has more juice than my Phantom mid so you don't need quite as powerful a string set up. I'd still go with a livelier poly and run it in the lower range of tensions like 45-48 lbs. In my Phantom 93P I really like Legend 17g at 50lbs paired with Ghostwire 18g crosses at 44lbs. But that's an 18x20 string bed.

At $119 its hard to say no to that. Super cool! As far as 93s go this is one of the hardest to play with due to tight 18x20 and more oval head shape.... You game will definitely improve in the next few months if you persist with this frame and work on finding the sweet spot..... Dont know your level but I would suggest a thin poly to get some amount of spin, forgiveness and larger sweet spot than Max Power Rough (super low power) or RPM Blast (very stiff) will give you.

I play with a 93 (its a Prince Graphite Pro 90) sometimes but it has a 14x18 string pattern and a rounder headshape. So it gives me control (low power) but good spin due to large spin window and open 14x18 string pattern.

My 93 vs a modern 100 (note the spin window and open string pattern)

Thanks. Can you please elaborate on your comment regarding Krischbaum Max Power Rough and RPM Blast?

What will lower tension give me? More power..will it come at the cost of control?

the 360+ is a 16x19. agree that it is more of an oval shape.

I play with a 93 now in the 360+ Prestige Mid. Came from a Wilson K90.
As for string suggestions, check the thread "Prestige Mid to become the racquet of the 2020s". Tons of input there. Personally I've been
playing with a Concept (m)/ Velocity (c) hybrid and now testing out both Black Knight / Velocity as well as Tour Status / Velocity. I string this racquet low at 43lbs.

Thank you for the correction @n8dawg6 . Apologies @Godfather for the wrong advice.

MAX POWER ROUGH was actually called LEAST POWER ROUGH but marketing made them change their name. Seriously though it has very low power for a 3.5-4.0 hacker like me.

RPM BLAST is very stiff feeling but has more power than MAX POWER ROUGH and may be a risk for future arm health for a 3.5-4.0 hacker like me.

You can definitely try them out and if it doesnt work out go down to a softer string / lower tension (or both)

I am surprised how Krischbaum went ahead with misleading advertising. Thank you for the heads up. I almost bought an entire of it.
Any idea about their Spiky Shark for this racket?

Any of you still play matches with a 93? Does it still give you the best chance to win your matches over 95/97/97 size racquets?

I play with a 73, a 90, and a 93. I also have a 95, a 98, and a 100. I play best with the 93. The 73 is great for "getting one's eye in." The 98 is perhaps the most forgiving. The 95 is perhaps the one I'm most hot and cold with.

Play with what you like. I don't feel at a disadvantage with any of the racquets. Most of it is mental if you are a 4.5 or below. I can see how the pace of the 5.0+ level might make it necessary to find a more forgiving frame, but find that the sweet spot on my Becker London Tour is as easy to find as those on any of my larger frames. YMMV.

2x93p are my daily drivers. I also bought a prestige mid on the current sale just to try it out.

the thing I really like about the 93p is that it is so stable against hard hitters and volleys.

When on offense you can do full swings without the ball spraying.

Other than that have some LM radicals that I need to figure out how to mod to get them to play like the 93p

Try 1 pack at a time. Use others reviews as suggestions only...

I love ROUGH strings myself (shaped & twisted primarily since the feel is similar to that of synthetic gut). I have the SPIKY SHARK on my list of strings to try and at $7.5/set you cant really go wrong.

I'm a huge believer in hybrids so any pack of POLY I buy I get 2 attempts to try and see if I like it.

the Wilson K-Blade Tour was a sweet racket, i played with it for many many years.
-i still have mine also
-since they are 18/20s, i tend to favor softer string on them
-ill bring them out once in a while, they are fun to hit
-the 1hbh is nice when i hit the center
-having used bigger heads over the years since , i dont always hit center with the 93
-but because they usually have multis on them, vibration is not so bad

I play for fun with my Phantom 93P (14x18) pretty regularly. It has great maneuverability for the weight, good plow through, and easy access to depth and spin. However I can’t get over the psychological hurdle of playing a 12oz, 93” frame in the modern era — any time I am losing with it I feel foolish for using that spec so I don’t use it in real matches.

My son today got his Pro Staff 97L strung with Spiky Shark. His shots were very controlled and he claims he like it better then RPM blast which is on his other 97L. He is however using lead tape at 12 o clock on both side to notch up to 294 And then later 298 and 302 trying to figure out what’s the best weight for him.

Pre-Covid when I was able to play five times a week regularly, my go to stick was the 93P.. When you are playing well, I don’t think there is a better stick than the 93P when it comes to playing attacking tennis. The surface feels larger than 93 and when strung low with 18G poly around 45lbs, it really comes alive. It just gave that extra dose of confidence go for the shots.

Now that I don’t play as much as before, my go to rackets are Blade 98 18x20 & Blade Pro 18x20. I need a little more help from my rackets right now.

Never played with 85 so i guess no worries
-the 1HBH with a 85 is awesome, so easy to cut through the air
-now at contact, if you hit the sweet spot ,(small) it is golden, if not its horrible
-when you miss the sweetspot with a 85, it reminds me of a "tunning fork" feel (after impact) ,, ouchh

I started playing tennis 2.5 years ago. My racquet journey so far is budget Yonex 97 > Wilson PS90 > Yonex VCoreHD 18x20 > Prestige Mid 93.
The 93 is great. It's a tight 16x19, particularly in comparison to PS90. As much control as VCoreHD but with more maneouverability and less stiff string-bed.
It's a good racquet. I have no problems generating spin or power.

I think there is an optimal mid size below which you start losing the advantage - what is that? I would guess under 90.

Do you compete? What’s your level?
I ended up competing last year (I mean amateur league in Austria), but probably I will resume next year in 45+ group.
I estimate my level around 4.5.
Using my Prestige Mid G360+ in casual hitting session and/or training. I might try to use it in a match once, but I am considering new Prestige MP/L for future tournaments if I go for it.
Enjoying Prestige Mid a lot, probably due to my muscle memory, as I grew up in tennis with iPrestige Mid, I used to play with it for some decent time.

What string and tension do you put in the Prince pro 90??

I have used the pc600 xl on occasion the last year as I have had some arm issues. Like its flex and its reach. 18 gauge kirschbaum super smash mains and 17 gauge Xone biphase crosses at 47 lbs..
The racket serves very very well and I find it fairly easy to swing and nail the ball.

Good for you! You sound like a great player. Keep us updated on your progress!!

I always wondered why people claim it is difficult to defend with a mid. After all, these racquets are super headlight, so all one has to do is get close to the ball and flick/slice it back with effect….
Early preparation, proper body rotation and core stability are the key factors. Not the head size whatsoever. In the end of the day, Mids are not the racket for defence but for offence (look at Cilic or Safin).
But if it comes to defence, just move properly and prepare early and you are can defense quite comfortably with Mid

The 93s I have played with recently are the RQ-180 (92) and Kneissl Aero 30C (93?). Lovely sticks, but both seem rather large and clunky compared to my usual 85s. Admittedly, I'm no tournament warrior.

The only issue I see with my 93 mid is power. That is because my opponent gets 2 distinct advantages: 1 my return power could be more and 2 his stick is generating more power inherently. To over come this I have been advised to start gym and build core to generate more power.

Thoughts?
