Medvedev. Zverev has a prospective peak he can hit where he becomes unplayable, but he gets to that level very rarely, and it's not like it's something he's proven to have any control over. Luckily for him, one of the times he hit said peak was the Finals of the Finals last year, and that makes his record look rosier.

Medvedev doesn't have the serve issues that sometimes affect zverev. But outside of the uso slam win, does zverev have better results than med (including bo5)? He has wins over Carlos, was competing well against nadal at rg, and should have beaten Djokovic at uso 2021, but may have lead to tiring out Djokovic for his final against med.

It would clearly be Medvedev but his outright suckage at IW/Miami gives me pause.

i don’t think he’d even come close to a Slam in the slower HC era of 2011-16, he needs a quicker and low bouncing court to win.

2 WTF > 1 WTF
1 GM > 0 GM
5 Masters on 2 different surfaces > 4 Masters on 1 surface.

Zverev already beat Nadal, Federer and Djokovic multiple times in BO3. Medvedev never beat Federer and only beat Nadal once. Zverev beat Djokovic in a WTF final, Medvedev only beat him in earlier rounds of Masters and a RR match.

Medvedev is just lucky he got the exhausted, mentally imploding version of Djokovic in the final... instead of the fresh, relaxed version from the semi.
If Djokovic drew Auger-Aliassime (instead of Zverev) and Medvedev had to beat both Zverev and Djokovic, I doubt Medvedev would have his GS.

Zverev more potential but Medvedev doesn't choke as much how i see it. But when they both play their best, Zverev wins

Facts

When Zverev is more aggressive he is the better player. But, he often plays too passively from the baseline and then Medvedev does a good job of moving him around the court by hitting closer to the sidelines and forcing errors. Often who wins between the two of them in Bestof3 comes down to who is serving better as they are very closely matched otherwise.

Over a 2-week Slam, Medvedev is probably better at controlling his intensity and focus than Zverev who seems to have more off-days. So, Medvedev has more upside in Slams currently and this will change only if Zverev starts traveling with a sports psychologist like Swiatek does. I think he is too proud and vain to go down that route though.

After meds straight sets loss to Djokovic in the uso '23 final, is there a case for zverev being the better player but med just being mentally stronger?

Nadal showed meds court position can be exploited by playing with variety and bringing him to the front court.

Yes med won the uso and zed has no slams. But zer should really have won the USO after being up 2-0 sets. He also beat raz rg '22 and could potentially have beaten nadal in the following match. He's pushed Djokovic in a few matches as well.

Med is 9-7 against him. And much more mentally fit than Sasha. I’ve seen Sasha make excuses of the big 3 to why he’s not a slam champion.

Med beat Novak in a GS final.

That’s all.

Of course zverev is more talented. But med has the 9-7 record. 3-1 against him this year as well.
Med is nothing but honest when he says others can hit bigger and better than him lol
