Right now both have a slam. Both dont have a Masters. Del Potro would be ahead now due to all his Masters finals and higher rankings over time. However who will end up with the better career in your estimation. I am almost thinking Wawrinka has a better chance to win a 2nd slam than Del Potro before both retire, depite being older. Del Potro seems to have a cap on what he can do since 2009, while Wawrinka has been gradually getting better for about 6 years now.

I'm still going with Delpo because of the age advantage. Despite his poor AO, he's getting closer to Nadal and Djokovic again.

I dont sense him getting closer. Last year even when he was on fire a few times and Djokovic was subpar he still lost to him in those big matches. He has beaten Nadal once since 2009 now. Anyway it seems that there are so many players who can beat him at any given time, in addition that Murray and Olderrer are still favored over him anytime they meet, especialy in a slam.

Delpo so far. He has master titles and been in many Slam semis/qfs.

But thats a damn good question. i fear delpo will never regain his 2009 form, but we also need to see if this new wawrinka is the real deal or a one off.

I guess another question I should have asked is will either even win another slam. Both, neither one, only Wawrinka, only Del Potro, multiple more (2 or more) for either one. That is also intriguing to wonder.

My gut tells me 1 or 2 more for Wawrinka and 0 or 1 more for Del Potro.

If Wawrinka even wins a Masters or reaches another slam final and Del Potro doesnt though, that would push him above Del Potro's career.

Well, his IW and Shanghai performances were strong showings and with a bit of luck he could have won one of those. He beat Djokovic, Murray (IW) and Nadal (Shanghai) in those tournaments.

His 4 500 titles and his Wimbledon SF epic suggest he can still do some damage.

Agree with underground. Stan is peaking. Delpo will never be as good as he was at the end of 2009. It will be very interesting to see if Wawa can win another slam or 2. He's proven over the last couple years that he's a tough matchup for Djokovic and beating Nadal in a slam final will give him even more confidence. His mentality and demeanor on the court is great right now.

What is Wawrinka's best chance at another slam. Is it another Australian, a Wimbledon, or a U.S Open. I would say anything but the French. Intersting at one point anyway I think he considered clay his best surface, but cant see him ever winning there with both Nadal and Djokovic around.

Delpo and it won't ever be all that close. Delpo has better results across the board, is younger and is far more consistent in day-to-day tournaments. Stan might have a higher peak level of play, but in terms of a career, it's clearly Delpo.

No way he is winning Wimbledon. He lost to grandpa Hewitt there in straights.

Going with Delpo.

He already has a more succesful career compared to Wawrinka and is younger. Why choose Stan? What does he have over DelPo?

I cant speak for everyone but why I voted for Stan in this poll (to eventually have the better career), and to what he has over Del Potro. Much better backhand, better serve, better volleys, more variety, moves somewhat better, far less injury prone, and seems to be getting better unlike Del Potro who seems to be stuck at a certain level he cant ever get past again, and one lower than his 2009 level (probably his true peak). Despite being known as a headcase Wawrinka also seems to be slowing developing the Champions mentality, while Del Potro despite not ever being considered a headcase seems to no longer quite have the Champions mentality and can no longer ever pull out big points or big matches.

If that is so, wouldnt that also apply to Del Potro at Wimbledon, considering he lost to grandpa Hewitt there in his best ever year (2009). Actually by that logic it would apply to him at the U.S Open as he lost to grandpa Hewitt there last year. Yet Wimbledon and the U.S Open are CLEARLY Del Potro's best 2 chances for a future slam based on any recent performances, so if we go by this line of thinking applied to Wawrinka but now reapplied to Del Potro, Del Potro has no chance of a 2nd slam.

I wouldn't hold Stan's age against him. All the top competitors currently are the same age as him Nadal, Djoker, etc...). Furthermore, those guys are far more injury prone and have styles of play which are far more demanding on the body than Stan's.

Why does anyone think Nadal and Djoker will be just fine a their age, but Stan won't?

If Stan doesn't win another slam it will almost certainly because of me tal weakness, and not physical weakness.

Del Potro is 1-2 years younger than Nadal, Djokovic, Murray and Wawrinka 1-2 years older than that trio. So while the age gap of him and Wawrinka (3 years) sounds significant, when you look at the context of the players more important than both of them in the game, who both those guys much beat to further their own careers in any significant way, it really isnt so much. I tend to think the periods Nadal and Djokovic drop off of being dominant top 3 players, Murray drops out of the top 5, and Wawrinka and Del Potro drop out of the top 8, for good in perhaps all cases, will be around the same time. Probably sometime in either 2016, 2017, or 2018 for each, depending when the next generation of good players (and it sure is hell is not the current young one, or the ones that are currently in juniors) emerges to take advantage of the natural aging process of all these guys.

Stan. DelPo is out of racquets. He'll go crazy once he starts using new racquets. Stan still have 2-3 years of prime tennis left. He'll a reach a few more Slam semis and will win Chennai Open at least 3 more times. :)
