Because at the WTF he sucked against Berrettini, Thiem and Tsitsipas but played incredibly well against Djokovic. Can't believe I have to explain something so obvious. When was the last time he played a crap match against Nadal or Djokovic?
Ah yes, the WTF. That shows how dangerous he is at a different venue with a bigger format, where he hardly did anything of note in this decade.

He did alright at RG I guess, so Cincy last year. But the clock is ticking for him more than for others. 39 at the next US Open.
Fognini and Federer, yeah, totally interchangeable.
If it's absurd it's absurd. Whether it's Fognini or Federer. He hasn't even reached Nadal at any US Open that Nadal won, and hasn't beaten Djokovic at any Slam for over seven years. Not ruling him out because it's Federer but that much confidence in him now is unwarranted.

I never said it's likely, just not zero. Nadal's 4 AO finals dont boost his chances for 2020 just like Federer not winning the USO since 2008 doesn't mean he can't win again.

You said rafa was closer to beating roger at this year's wimby
It was in context who has the bigger chance to win the slam. Rafas results in Wimbledon more impressive lately than Federer in USO.
Rafa playing that great in Wimbledon this year and last year, not many days after winning RG is incredible.

Right now Federer...Serena hasn't wont anything since returning from giving birth. She can fight to the final then either her body gives in or she is just outplayed. Nothing against her but I don't think her body is where she wants it to be to be competing.

Ehh yeah? If it wasnt 11 years it wouldnt be an anomaly xD

Or are you telling me that it's totally normal that a 5 time USO champion 20 time Slam champion couldnt win the USO at least once in 11 years.
Huh? When he lost the final to Delpo, that was an anomaly. Because he was expected to keep winning. But when the same result happens for 11 years straight, not winning the US Open is the new standard. Unless you still want to hold Fed to his 2004-08 standard.

Almost?
:oops::rolleyes:o_O
He was seeded 6, do you remember it, isn't it?.
Only Del Potro in the second set of the final showed signs of competitiveness, the 6 rivals of the previous rounds did not have the necessary weapons with which to hurt the Serbian.
It was a formality for Nole. The whole tournament.
Nothing more to say.
Yeah, I agree. The worst thing is that the draw was an absolute joke if we compare it to Nadal's draw. I don't remember any other examples of such big gaps between the draws in one tournament. Nadal faced in-form Khachanov, Basilashvili and a GOATing Thiem while Djokovic in these rounds faced Gasquet, Sousa and Millman. (yes, the guy Nadal routined in the FIRST ROUND of USO 2019). And Del Potro was his usual self in this matchup, just terrible mentality. He missed an easy forehand on pretty much every big point and found a way to choke the second set after Djokovic almost accepted losing it. No excuses for Nadal, he was in bad form in USO 2018 and had no serve at all. Though with Djokovic's draw he would have probably won the title.

Are we counting moral victories? I am reading how Serena has not won a set in her 4 Slam final defeats. Thus is mentally weak. Nevermind she didn't lose to some flashes in the pan.

Meanwhile, Federer had two match points at his pet Slam, with the crowd rooting against Novak, but this the Webster's definition of being mental tougher Serena. Okay.

Serena has an easier path to a Slam final than Federer, which means she will have more opportunities. But both player are on the wrong side of 35. And both have strong cases for being the GOAT. Whatever is achieve moving from this point in their respective careers is icing on a cake.

Rafa devotee,.
That still doesn't justify you making up a fake story about feder, that rafa was close to beating roger at Wimbledon 2019....

IMO Federer doesn't stand a chance at the USO because:

1. He hasn't won it in 11 years.
2. He hasn't reached the SF in the last 4 years.

Nadal doesn't share the second premise at the AO.
The last 4 years he's had physical issues, entirely missing 1 of them.

Same problem Rafa had at Australia for many years. If they're healthy, they're both huge threats at the respective events.

Which is the reason why Federer is not having chances to win the USO in the last years. His physical condition does not allow him to win the USO anymore. Why? Because the USO is slower and requires exhausting baseline game and point construction. When Federer starts playing longer matches at the USO, his recurrent back problems come back, etc.

I never saw Nadal being injured 3 years in a row at the AO, so not a comparable situation with Roger. Nadal was only injured at the AO 2018, but in 2017 and 2019 he was healthy and lost to a better playing opponent.

close call really. odds get longer every year, but both can take out anyone on a given day. there’s some real depth now in the women’s field, and players that can about match serena for power (bianca, naomi) and ash is a real talent. for fed, if healthy the guy is a tough out and is still hanging with all the top players if he’s on. although he’s come up short ( besides atp finals) his losses to novak have been tight...

to answer though, i’m gonna go with fed by a slight margin.
