Wawrinka obviously.

That backhand is/was one of the single deadliest weapons in tennis. The only weapon that Thiem has is that ass.

I don't think there's no one answer to this question.

Wawrinka is a more talented ballstriker

Thiem is a more talented athlete.

I think Thiem has more potential on clay

Wawrinka is more talented off clay, though this may depend on match up

How you'd rate that together depends on you.

Donald Young was "the most talented player in a generation"

What are your results. All that matters.

Thiem is a poor mans Jack Sock. Wawrinka is a two time real slam champion.

Stanimal never won The Real Slam but he won three of those other two-week false imitations of the most prestigious tournament of all time.

I think Theim has more talent, but Stan has the experience at this point. I think Thiem will also have a late bloom, not that he has done bad so far.

LOL dude Thiem is already way more accomplished and heads and shoulders above Jack Sock. How is he a poor mans Jack Sock?

Thiem will most likely win a French Open one day. But I think he'll be a one and done kinda deal, don't see him repeating the feat.

Would be sad if he didn't.
I don't think he'll have as long a prime as the Big 4. I'd be surprised if he hung around even as long as Murray did. He doesn't have as much time. His style of play may lead to injuries later on down the road too.

Definitely the best of the "NextGen" though.

He's been really consistent at the FO. I can see him winning 2 or 3 FO's when Nadal is gone. I assume he will squeeze out a FO while Nadal is still playing.

He's already had several deep runs there, he can't keep that up forever. I don't see him beating Nadal either.

Wawrinka is more talented for sure. Peak Wawrinka was even better on clay (less consistent but on a good day he was superior) to Thiem even if Thiem wins 2-3 RG titles due to the weak era. On hard courts prime Wawrinka is way better, again even if Thiem also wins a hard court slam or two due to the weak era.

Stan has more nuances to his game. Thiem seems a bit of a ball-basher.
I actually dont see many nuances in either ones game. Stan is mostly a ferocious power baseliner and shotmaker. Thiem is a heavy topspin grinding power baseliner. So slightly different from each other but both fairly one dimensional. Stan is just better at his game than Thiem is at his though.

Stan also uses angles deceptively well I guess, but not a lot of finesse or variety either.

Thiem can absolutely hit the cover off the ball with both spin and space. Theim has more natural talent I think. But Stan has the ability to transform into Stanimal at any given moment which adds like +1000 to his natural ability stat. It all depends on whether Stan transforms or not.

?????

I watched a practice match between your hero and and Stan and at one point Murray laughed at someone standing next to him and said something like "always the same thing" meaning he winds up and blasts the crap out of the ball. I respect Sir Murrays analysis .
