Who is not happy that Nadal won the US open this year?

I would guess Medvedev. He really should have won, he had all the momentum at the start of the 5th but couldn't convert.

I am happy Rafa won - but I have no problem saying Medvedev should have taken it.

This poster is not a Federer fan.

Perhaps so but that poster is hardly the only one who writes like that. If there's any Federer fan sensible enough to step forward and admit that Djokovic and Nadal are just as talented as Federer, I'd be interested in hearing it. But I'm not holding my breath!

It's annoying because he isn't worthy of 4 USO titles. 2 at best. This year's cakewalk was just bizarre...Shwatzman, Berrettini, Medvedev. F'ing joke.

Thanks. I believe that is true. I know some of the rabid Fed fans can be overbearing, but even from the worst of Fed fans, I've NEVER seen anyone calling Nadal "untalented" . That is so ridiculous, it's funny. Who is this poster?

I mean it's one thing to say that Fed is vastly more talented than Nadal, and obviously even many Nadal fans would agree to that. Or even that Djokovic is more talented than Nadal. Both are fine.
But to say Nadal is untalented, can't dictate play from the back and his backhand sucks - shows an absolute lack of understanding of tennis in the best case and borderline stupidity in the worst case.

I think many fans of any Big3 players think of the three as a cluster of talent that happened somewhat simultaneously.

Whether one of the players is more or less talented is perhaps not that interesting. Federer and Djokovic obviously have more versatility, the results prove this. But then someone else will say "dominating a surface is tougher", or "Federer had it easier" or "Djokovic had it easier". So we end up with a mess, daily seen on TT.

Fedalovic will probably be mentioned in the same breath for all eternity as Big3. I doubt there will three players of this level competing at the same time again. And if one of them ends up with 1 slam more than the others, I don't think that's really enough to separate them, because they all hold records that are amazing, and they are not even done yet.

Oh yesss, I say it like I am having some good sex with the gf when I read this. Like we have been complaining about this for years, the courts are so slow that a clay court specialist like Nadal is allowed to win Wimbledon, what a joke for atp, suck it, atp.

A baseliner holds the record for most Wimbledon singles titles. That's even worse!

Brilliant! You're the kind of fan we need more of, ones that appreciate great tennis. Top post, 74! :)

I'm disappointed that Medvedev couldn't finish it off. That comeback would of been a hell of a story and maybe a stepping stone and sign to the world that the next gen is coming but instead we got another generic win for the oldies.

Medvedev can beat everyone on the planet with his baseline grinding style with possible exception of Djoker and Rafa.
It took Med too long (third set) to switch strategies. Almost won anyway. Blame it on the coaching. "Let's grind and hope that the GOAT grinder Rafa has an off day..." A good coach gets him the win. That said, I do not expect Med to lose to Rafa on hard court again.
If they played U.S. Open again, Med would probably be a slight favorite. Next time he will not enter the match tentative. He will mix it up with S & V and follow shots to the net from the very beginning.

the keys to beat nadal is pretty simple, dictate plays, move him around and give him plenty of backhands. Make the rallies last as long as possible; tire him out and grind him out if you have the younger legs.

Once you go to Nadal’s back hand, he is very defensive and he doesn’t dictate the play anymore, then it is simply just change direction on every stroke and jerk him to side to side to tire him out. Nadal is so UNTALENTED so he stands very far behind the baseline to give him time to react, hence he has a lot more court to cover side to side. Simple geometry, people!

You have stupid young right handed players keep going to nadal’s forehand by cross court it is as if they don’t know how to hit down the line back hand.
First paragraph is science fiction, unless your name happens to be Novak Djokovic.

Second paragraph, Nadal's defensive backhand and backhand passing shot are among the best in the man's game (in this baseline era, pretty much all successful lefties have a good backhand).

Third paragraph, when a righty hits a cross court FH, it actually goes to Nadal's backhand side, as anyone who has watched even a single Nadal game can see.

Thus, obvious troll is obvious.

This was written a lot of times by Federer fans, and not only on this forum. I don't know if specifically this guy is a Federer fan or not, but this stuff used to come from Federer fans as well.

Such a mistake poking my nose in GPPD. -insert facepalm gif-

Thread is called "Who is not happy that Nadal won USO?" yet it's spammed by Nadal fanboys...

Lol. This is the single most stupid post I have ever heard on this forum. Tells you something about the level of stupidity of this post. Losing Wimbledon and Aussie open final to a "one trick pony" is what makes you GOAT. Ok I get it. Its so easy to beat him that is why he has the best winning pct in open era.:laughing::laughing::-D:-D
If it’s really that easy to beat Nadal then why don’t OP try going on the court against him at a grand slam final....:-D

Federer and Djokovic obviously have more versatility, the results prove this.
I would say that the results show that Nadal is at least as versatile as the other two, but his clay dominance skews his results because of the dominance of HC. I say that because his record on his weakest surface, grass, has to be as impressive as the record of the other two on clay.

This is going purely on results, not the look of his game.

The idea that style is now more homogenized today cuts both ways. Fed's style is absolutely made for grass, so I would assume he would have been dominant on grass in any era, but I have to wonder if he'd even have one RG playing in the 90s. I think Novak would be lucky to have more than a couple majors on grass and probably also one at RG in the 90s. And Nadal obviously would have been less successful off clay in the 90s. This era, the rackets and strings, have benefited all of the Big 3. We think the top guys are more versatile than they are because of the modern game.
