Who is playing with a Head Radical Microgel?

langdon0555

Semi-Pro
I'm interested in hearing some feedback from fellow members who have played with or who are still playing with the Head Radical MG midplus?

How did you customize them?
What are your/were your specs?
Did you put CAP Grommets on them?
Discuss the playing characteristics of them after modifying them.

If I got one, I'd probably put CAP grommets on it...so would love to defiantly hear some feedback from those who CAPPED their Radical MG midplus! :)

Thanks

Why would you want to cap them?

The extra weight and stability. Plus the extra protection the capped grommets provide.

I like to modify my racquets to around 12.5 ounces/around 8 points head light/340-345 swing weight.

I capped one of mine yesterday. Still have not strung it yet. Unstrung, it weighs 370 g and balance of about 31 cm.

370g unstrung. Really!? My capped LM Rad weighs 335g strung. Have you got a ton of weigh in the handle as the balance sounds wrong too?

THE MG radical in stock form is very low powered. However, there is lots of room for customisation. Hence, if you are willing to add significant weight to the hoop and counterbalance in the handle, you will have something very different and much more like what some pros are playing. No one here can really tell you how that will then play because it will depend on what you do with it. However, in principle, what you are suggesting is do-able.

Is it a 2008/2009 edition you have or the reissue made last year?

I felt that the reissue felt different compared to the "original" MG Rad MP. Not so solid. Specially in the upper part.

I was looking at the ones currently on TW for $89.

So those aren't as good as the originals huh? Bummer...

If the ones on TW currently, aren't as solid, do you think that would make a difference if I'm modifying it with weight via capping, maybe some lead, leather grip and maybe some tungsten putty in the handle?

I put 3 grams at 3&9 and 5 in the handle with poster putty. That was one good racquet for me at the time. I liked the low power because I could swing away and develop my strokes with a good chance of keeping the ball in. I would probably still be playing with it had I not picked up a used TeXtreme for $75.

I dont understand why many like that stick.
I used the microgel prestige MP and as someone said in another thread, it felt like plastic !! hollow, light, cheap.

Can someone tell me whats so special about microgel radical mp ??

I had MG Radicals over the years, including one capped one - didn't work out for me, too flexy in the loop, not enough stability.

LM Radical is where it's at.

MG Prestige was very low SW and unstable - needed weight on the loop, but otherwise not bad.

I much prefer the LM Rad MP too as it happens. I got the LM after the MG (but had both at once). The MG had to go as it was going to need too much modding for me. But it's not impossible.

Any idea on how much weight and swing points a cap will add to a LM radical Midplus...well at least a rough idea?

My LM's have no cap on them, I was thinking about capping them for a more unique look, but I'll have to adjust my lead configuration.

It would probably add around 15 grams..probably not going to do it on my main frame since I like it a lot, could be difficult to get weight EXACTLY like a I have it now.

Yes, it's the original with significant amount of weight added to hoop & handle. It plays very solid as expected.

Perfect platform racquet. Just a tiny bit of lead turns this thing into a monster. It also comes pre-strung with Head Sonic Pro which is a beautifully smooth-playing poly.

It actually shocked me how well this frame played. It's a dense string pattern but spin comes easy. And it's very mid-like because you don't have to think about your shots going long. If you're in position and provide a fluid swing you're going to hit the ball with excellent penetration, control and spin.

Troy Laura also played with a customized microgel radical too (I believe I heard that in one of the Vlogs) I have one, but am currently trying to perfect it. I might remove the caps and just go with lead, but I hate exposed lead, I think it looks bad. Lol, here is my Head Custom Made (by me, the only part Head Custom did was send the grip) Currently weighing in at 343 grams, ready for war!

I have five of them (re-issues) all weighted to about 340g, 6pts HL, TW leather grips and
varying amounts of lead at various places in the hoops because the QC is poor.

Nice rackets once you work on them abit.
