The women's draw is now very open. Barty out, Osaka out, Sabalenka, Pliskova, Krejcikova out. The highest seed in the draw is now Svitolina, who has never been in a slam final. The only slam winner is Muguruza. Bencic, Pavlyuchenkova and Rybakina are seeded. Badosa, Giorgi and Vondrousova are not seeded but they took out Swiatek, Pliskova and Osaka.

Based on the results of the first rounds and their current form, who do you think is gonna win the gold medal?
As a big WTA fan, I have to say it's impossible to predict at this point. I cannot even pick one player and say "this one has zero chance to win". They all have one golden opportunity.

Please predict here in this poll. I'm interested in seeing your results, before the quarterfinals begin. Thanks. :)

Given that Puig came out of nowhere to beat the top seeds in Rio for the title it really is anybody's guess now. I'm pretty sure whoever I back will fall at the next hurdle (I just tend to jinx anybody I pick).

Gold medal is essentially useless. I personally know a Olympic gold medal in track & field and she is now working as a track coach for $50/hour. A "bench warmer" NBA player is making a few millions a year.

Missing the point. Nobody plays the Olympics for money. It's all for the glory. Your gold medallist will always be remembered in the Olympic Hall of Fame. Your millionnaire bench warmer will not be remembered by anybody.

Feeling Pavs tbh. There isn't the same pressure here and she'd love to win it.

I am sure most people, myself included, would take a few mil over the olympic gold medals. 99.999% of people on earth wants to be rich and not having Olympic gold medal.

So if Elina wins Gold here,, her career still wouldn't be fullfilled ??

She's playing really well. Sorribes Tormo wasn't the toughest of opponents but she absolutely destroyed her yesterday. We'll see how the match with Bencic goes tonight. I think I give Pavs the edge right now, but Belinda has been playing well too.

I do think Mugu is the favorite but she's had a few dips so far. I think she was 3-0 or 4-0 against Kudermetova and needed to go 7-5 7-5, similar story with gingeraffe yesterday. Was up 3-0 before the rain delay and allowed her back in the set. Still hasn't dropped a set though.

I’m surprised someone thought of vondrousova
It's me after watching some of her matches at the Olympics. She's talent, just 22. 2019 Roland Garros finalist (l. to Barty), used to be in top 20, got a wrist injury dropped to No. 42.

Why are you a big WTA fan? There's no consistency among any player whatsoever (apart from Osaka on hard but even she will have regular poor performances these days). The standard is way worse than the ATP.

She’s really, really talented. Seriously think she can be a Slam winner (I mean why not) as her variety is so difficult to play against. Being a lefty only helps this aspect of her game.

I mentioned Vondy as my dark horse pick. Gotta say I'm a little surprised about her progress in the Olympics. But good luck to her nonetheless.

In a monetary sense it may not have much value, but maybe, just maybe there’s some other type of value
