Who is year end number 6 and number 7?

At the end of the WTF Federer was on Number 6 and Berdych on number 7 (25 points behind Federer).

Davis Cup means that Berdych will jump Federer for the number 6 in the rankings, before the end of the year, correct?

What I can't understand is why the normal rankings and the race to London rankings are the same on the website given that the Czech republic won the Davis Cup last year (surely it would show Berdych as being higher in the normal rankings because it would have included them from last year having not got in this years Davis Cup finals points yet).

So what happened to Davis Cup final points for Berdych

The ATP points site is showing the same points for Berdych. He should have gotten at least 75 points from his Davis Cup match win (not including any team bonus' for his team winning). So why haven't they been included?

Probably because he and the Czech team were the defending champions at the Davis Cup so he was simply defending the same points he had already won from last year which means he can't gain any new ones until those points fall off.

I was meaning that the points from 'the RACE' ie only 2013 points after the WTF were the same as the year ranking points after the end of the 2013 Davis Cup final. The RACE only contains 2013 points so Davis Cup 2012 points weren't included.

Is Berdych being robbed of the number 6 ranking?

No, for the reasons I just explained. Davis Cup has nothing to do with the 2013 RACE. That's only to qualify for the WTF. Berdych was defending winner's points from last year's Davis Cup just as players have to defend all their ranking points from what they did in the previous year. He defended them successfully but he can't gain any new ones from Davis Cup play until those points drop off ie. if he fails to make the DC final next year.

it's a bit strange but i think the davis cup final points are included in the race for the following year... can anyone confirm that or am i wrong ?

Federer is 7th. You can argue it all you want, but if you say he's 6th, you're wrong.

Well, we go by the official ATP rankings and the way they work. If you disagree with any of that, you'll have to take it up with the ATP administrators!

Okay - here is a different way of phrasing it

A different way of phrasing it may be called for.

At the end of the WTF Berdych's points FOR 2013 ONLY were 25 points less than Federer's 2013 ONLY points. At the end of the 2013 Davis Cup finals the two are listed on the ATP website as having exactly the same points in the rankings ie Berdych 25 points less than Federer.

Now I may be wrong in this, I freely admit. Can someone verify?

Just prior to the WTF, Berdych was ahead of Federer by 3980 points to 3805, a difference of 175. At the end of the WTF, Berdych had gained 200 points by winning 1 of his round-robin matches. That put him on 4180 points. Federer, however, reached the semis of the WTF and so gained 400 points which put him on 4205 points, 25 more than Berdych. As Berdych could not gain any more points from his DC win, that leaves Federer ranked #6 and Berdych ranked #7 at year end. The rankings are correct.

Actually it's pretty simple.
In last year's DC final Berdych lost to Ferer, beat Almagro - 75 ATP points.
This year lost to Djokovic, beat Lajovic, defended 75 points

6. Federer
7. Berdych

So, were Berdych's Davis Cup points for the 2012 championship tie still a part of his ranking and then dropped off this past week? Those points were replaced by his points from 2013, so he defended what he won last year?

That all makes sense to me. What is confusing to me is that his ranking points and race points (which is supposed to show only 2013) prior to this week were equal. Did his 2013 race points from one week ago include his points from the 2012 Davis Cup championship tie?
