Please discuss who your favorite player on the tour is and why.

Federer wins hands down. The only reason you see more *********s here is because they're more obsessed with their idol. Oh and they also come up with the dumbest nicknames, take yours as an example.

Lots of them. Nowadays I like Federer, Djokovic, Nadal, Murray, Ferrer, Tsonga, Davydenko, del Potro, Querrey (I thought he was very nice to the people at the US Open one year) etc.

Favorite female players are Clisjters, Li Na, Sharapova, Serena, Bartoli, Jankovic.

There are way more Federer fans here, the poll will reflect that, it already does.

I love both Federer and Nadal...have shown more class and respect for the game (and history of the game) than any #1/#2 players at any time (in my opinion).

That being said, I'll go with Marco Baghdatis. He shows more enjoyment on the court than anyone, love his playing style, and think he handled his match with Andre Agassi (Agassi's last win) better than anyone could.

For a true love of the game while on the court...Marco's hard to beat.

TripleB

Justine Henin :-)
Beautiful all court game, mental toughness, amazing volleys, fast.

Currently active player? Gasquet for the same reasons sans the mental toughness though this is improving as we speak. He does play Rugby so he must be physically tough.

Haha calm down. Someone is clearly on their day

Definitely Roger Federer - he is the current ruling champion of all four slams and oozes class and game.

Federer might have more fans overall, but Nadal unquestionably has the best combination of fans who love to see him win and haters who love to see him lose. The moment Nadal is in bother in a slam match, this forum crashes. During 2010 Wimbledon in Nadal's match against Petzschner, a wave of Nadal haters arrived out of nowhere, sensing blood.

It's silly really. I almost hate being in Rafa match threads when he loses a set, much less a match.

My absolute favourite player is Gasquet. I am even taking off work tomorrow to watch him play against Murray.

Nadal is my second favourite and the only I actively root for just because he actually wins tournaments...Gasquet loses them all in style.

Federer b/c of his tennis style, not b/c of anything like slam counts. I started watching him when he had only won two slams and have been mesmerized ever since. He's probably my favorite athlete of all time followed by Secretariat and Ali. I think his story has only gotten deeper as he has struggled against Nadal on clay but even more so with the media barage that has accompanied their rivalry. All in all, I think Fed has handled it with grace and shown amazing guts and love for the game to still be pushing on so enthusiastically at 30 years old. I was always scared a few years ago, particulalry in 2008 when he struggled with mono and lack of conditioning, that he would walk away from the game. Thankfully for his fans, he didn't and I think him continuing to play is great for tennis, notwithstanding those who are tired of seeing him after all of this time.

I have started to like Nole quite a bit after I've learned more about him and the sacrifices that his family made for the sake of his career. I had to get over the thing his Mom said about Fed a couple of years ago but I understand their enthusiasm after hearing their story. I think his personality is good for tennis. More than anything, I respect the fact that he seems to be rising to the occasion to give the fans some great matches with Fed and Nadal. I wish Murray would follow suit.

Nadal, I like his fearless attitude. He has had to raise his level on all surfaces to win lots of GS in the era of one of the greats of the sport in history. Nadal to me is an example of how to conduct (Federer is as well) and how you can reach your goals if you combine talent, hard work and determination.

Soderling because I like the attacking tennis of players who average one giant scalp per tournament only to never win a chip.

Goran Ivanisevic (good guy, amazing player, was very interesting to watch).

Federer (Pure class, golden eagle of victory, etc...)

Ljubicic (I like his 1hbh, and his serve)

I used to like Cilic, now I'm really annoyed at him, he has been sucking major ass in the last 12 months

I like Delpo alot as well. I was actually happy that he ended up winning the US Open final against Fed. Delpo seems to be a very nice and genuine guy.

why dont who become a fan of someone who actually WINS and doesn't get owned by 18 year olds haha!

You think Rafa would've retired, then, had he been in the condition Soderling was in? I don't know about that. He might've kept on.

Either way, I think not retiring when you're that sick is pretty gutsy. My esteem for him went up a little.

That was excruciating to watch for me. Federer played so well throughout the entire tournament only to end up losing the final in such a terrible way. He did not even try in the 5th. :(

But yeah Del Potro is a great player.

I think Soderling is the GOAT with his ability to never convert in big matches or close tournaments in which he has upset the favorites.

He will have a special place in history because everyone remembers a perennial quarter finalist to runner up at best...

His place in the hearts of fat kids who listen to viking metal, lying club players who who claim to be 4.5 level and steroid abusing, in the closet gym rats who listen to dubstep as they work their glutes will never be taken away...

true legend.

A great player and a definite future slam holder, but GOAT?

It was brutal but seeing Delpo after that match....he really earned it and it was nice that someone other than Fedal won. Delpo is a very genuinely humble guy. He's been sorely missed and, if he can get it together, he may even achieve the #1 ranking.

It's a tie between Harrison and Raonic. I just love the way Harrison fights in matches and has the guts to go for 120 mph 2nd serves.

And Raonic I like the smoothness in his game and that serve!!

I like Baghdatis because I like to see someone loving what they do for a living. See also: Guga Kuerten.

I like Roger Federer because he plays the best, most elegant, most versatile brand of tennis ever.

I like Novak because I am fascinated by his insecurities.

I like Rafa. Even though his OCD is annoying, there's something amazing about his work ethic and his intensity. He's like Connors, only with some style.

But my favorite player, by far, is Justin Gimelstob ... because I love cringe comedy.

Hey, this is a unique thread, never come across one like this before. Favorite player ???? ... lemme think a bit ...

... this is a tough question you know, no one has asked this before ... I like Tsonga, Kolya, Müller, Isner, Pottero, Llodra, Schiavone, Stan, PK, Soderling ...

Of the top four, i can just about tolerate Murray, Joker, Federer and Nadal.

Rosie Casals (she was the original Mandlikova)
Sue Barker (somehow i think of her when the word tennis comes up)
Hana Mandlikova (better results than orig but just not the same as orig)
Justine Henin (she was tennis)
Roger Federer (talented version of Henin)
Petra Kvitova (maybe she will become the first player ever to show us that tennis based off 2hbh is okay too .. very excited about this player right now!)

. . . . .

FABIO FOGNINI

So entertaining to watch. I like his swagger, he walks like a champ! It's too bad he has so many jealous haters. Everyone always hates on the Italians!

Gasquet is my favourite and after that comes Roger.
For Söderling i'm pretty sure he has peaked his career. Looking at the points, Ferrer could soon overtake and the autumn affair is gonna be tough for the headcase. However a guy like Gasquet or Tsonga could easily replace Söderling, they are about the capacity.

There are four players that are so much better than the rest.

Why? I don't know any Italian tennis players besides Schiavone to start with.

I love Federer because of his effortless elegance and gracefulness.
I like Novak because of his passion and heart.
I respect Nadal because of attitude and fighting spirit.

Most talented, most athletic. My favorite.

Federer's playing style is something to behold and watch and be entertained by, but I don't root for him. I just don't like the way he walks around the court and just his attitude in general.

JMDP and A-rod prolly my sentimental favourites. Retired I'd say Safin and Guga. I enjoy watching tennis players in general though these guys just captured me a little more I guess.

Federer because:
- I prefer watching a 1 hbh
- His all round game unlike the modern one dimensional baseline spin based game

i go with hewitt as well, sorry dude.

why would you make a poll and then have 4 options to vote? doesnt sound too good to me :-o

Federer because of his never-say-die attitude(never retired in a match), fighting spirit(still trying hard even though he's a very old man playing against young players who are at their peaks, he's an inspiration to us all), his humble personality off the court(for example the respect he shows toward former greats of the game like say Sampras)and his tendency to play by the rules on court like a true professional, meaning he doesn't bend the rules because he realizes no one should be above them, not even international sport stars.

I forgot to add, I like to watch his game as well(as humble as it is).
