Who Owns Each Slam - Trophy Name Change

Who owns each Major, worth changing the name of the trophy because of their dominance? Who do you think should have the honor and why? (Off the top of my head)

Australian Open for the men is owned by Novak "Nole" Djokovic: Not only winning 5 so far, but taking 3 in a row! No one's done that in the Open era!

For the ladies, I guess you should give it to Margaret Smith Court, but for many years, the top players in the world didn't even bother going "down under" so she picked up an easy 11 titles with a huge psychological edge over Evonne Goolagong!
----------------
French Open was owned by Bjorn Borg since the 80's with 6 titles, but Rafa Nadal has overtaken him with 9 titles

For the Ladies, Chris Evert is Queen of clay with 7 titles!
----------------
Wimbledon had Bjorn Borg as the apparent King, but Roger Federer not only took 5 straight, he has 2 more titles to have a total of 7!

Without a doubt Martina Navratilova reigns supreme on grass taking 9 singles titles: 5 straight ('82-'87) often without losing a set!
----------------
US Open had several dominant figures with McEnroe, Connors winning on 3 surfaces, and Lendl getting to 8 straight finals, but again Roger Federer dominated with 5 straight titles! This is why he's the GOAT with 1 FO & 4 AO's!

I guess you have to rename the trophy to Chris Evert due to her winning 6 titles on 2 surfaces: 4 on clay and 2 on HC!

I forgot losses to Hewitt and Safin! Those were annihilations when Pete was near the end of his career! Thanks!

Bump..... Will Nole OWN Australia if he wins a 6th title upcoming? Again, he'll have the most Championships in the OPEN era and won it 3 straight times which no one's done since EMO in the 60's! :p :)

I know this is just for fun but don't think any trophy should be renamed. However, I really would like to see a Court Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros. What he did there won't be repeated for a very long time (ever?).

AO: Novak, IMO
RG: Nadal
WIM: Federer
USO: Federer (perhaps a bit debateable, but his untouched 5-in-a-row there (plus two extra finals) is good enough for me.

There is also Emerson's six at the AO to think about.

What about Graf though?

Martina came from Czech and without proper training or motivation had slow start, at 22 I guess she was at 1 slam while Graf at 11. And the legend played well into her thirties vs great players like Graf and Seles unlike Serena who is playing with Womugs ;)

Seles stabbing is besides the pint but for me Martina is GOAT surely even without stats.

Maybe.
Not saying you're wrong, but I still think Graf has the numbers.
Agree to disagree I guess.

People neglect to think of how dominant Navratilova was in doubles which gives her 59 majors in the OPEN era; no one else can say that! She's the female Federer with tons of records that will NEVER be broken! No matter how many Serena adds, she'll never come close to 59 so forget her, Graf, and anyone who comes along later IMO! :p

Yes, 9 Wimby 6 WTF are big numbers and good at USO as well, most important tournaments in HER time, she owned.

I agree on that.
I think being the Wimbledon GOAT (as Martina is) is huge in overall GOAT discussions because it's the GOAT tournament, the de facto championship of tennis.

So it's close.

Another good point I must concede.
Nobody thinks about doubles achievements, but many of the recent tennis champions don't have many doubles achievements compared to the champions of previous eras.

Laver, Mac etc. were awesome in doubles too, so surely that gives them a leg up over modern champions.

According to Wikipedia, the USO was played on clay for only 3 years -- '75, '76, '77. Since 1978 it's been a HC tournament. That would put Chris' 6 titles at 3+ 3.

However, this puts her total clay slam titles at 10 (7+3). That would be an unmatched record, male or female.

If you can really qualify Har-Tru as clay! ;-)

Court has 62 majors. So statistically she's goat if you want to play that game.

Anyway this is singles not doubles
And statistically in the open era
Graf>serena>nav=/=chris

Sampras has one more US open final - so at the moment he is ahead of Federer IMHO (I don't believe that 5 straight is better than 5 overall)

As of today with Federer's win at Wimbledon taking his 8th title, I guess we can say he stands alone and should own that cup; at least rename it after The GOAT! :p
