Who played the best match vs Federer at the USO in 2004-2008?

Nice one. Obviously the notion Federer faced harder total comp at the USO is kind of absurd since Djokovic ended up being much more consistent and got to face all sorts of competition including peak Nadl and prime Fedr himself early on. However, neither really faced top ATG level - 2010 doll for Joe and 2011 Joe for Fedr being the only instances. Otherwise, all their opponents were manageable for at least a prime ATG, with difficulty but manageable. It was Djoko's own level that was the problem in 2012-14. Like 09 was Fedr's fault, too. So both should've been 6+time champs but Joe faltered more often hence is behind on this venue.
I think Federer's competition in his wins overall was harder.

Overall, tougher to say. Federer also faced close to prime Agassi in 2001 when he was just 20 and peak Djokovic in 2015.

Federer's near-win over 2011ovic is greater than either Nadal win lol.
Weakovic who Federer couldn't beat when he hadn't lost a set the entire tournament?
And a near-win being greater than an actual win?

This is great stuff, I can only assume for your first stand-up gig

Huge difference between Fed in the 2007 QF and 2009 F tbf. For one Fed served like garbage in 2009, with the way Roddick protected his served he'd definitely have chances against 2009 Fed.
Serving like garbage seems to have been a common theme during Fed's lost Slam finals in 2009.

In Fed's defence, in 2009, he was going for his 6th USO in a row and nobody has won a slam 6 times in a row in the OE.Fedr was the closest to do it though.

'ts ok, I think 2010 Ned would have beaten both opponents mentioned anyway, strength of comp doesn't come into play unless you can firmly make the case that the player wouldn't have won with stronger competition in the way.
2nd part is a hot take on here these days.

Djokovic shouldn’t be on the list. Murray shouldn’t be on the list.

You forgot Kiefer 2005

My list was a real list lol Djokovic needs to be in it. I will add in Kiefer.
Djokovic played no where near the level of Hewitt 04/05 Nalbandian, Kiefer, Davydenko, Spadea, Roddick etc.

Federer declined heavily when he played Novaxx but Fed at his peak was unbeatable. He made a strong competitor like Kiefer look like a meme out there.

Agassi in 05. Might be the only time in his entire 5-year reign that he was actually in real danger of losing.

A lesser claycourter than Fed or Djo will probably win 3+ RGs sometime in the future.

I legitimately question whether we'll see an ATG surface talent (let alone an overall ATG talent) in our lifetimes, irrespective of what they win against a lacking field. That's how much gloom the current proceedings inspire. At least the WTA has Osaka, not that it's much better to see her thwack mugs whenever she's in any form on HC while mostly losing silly 'cause most of the time she isn't.

Nadal served terrible for a top player standard and was broken 11 times.
We can play that game too.
By the USO 2011 Djokovic literally was spinning his serves in.
His shoulder and arm were basically just hanging on by adrenaline and momentum.

Nobody said Djokovic's serve was at peak level in the 2011 USO final. In the 4th set he pretty much had no serve.

That's why there were so many rallies in that final. The quality of their serves was lacking.
