That‘s why it is good to have a scoreboard in sports - there is no dispute about who is the winner and who is the loser in every contest. Even in this case, there are opponents who can lose to you ten times in a row and still have an excuse for every single loss.

Scoreboards don't stop master excuse-makers.

When I play my hitting partner I'm a counterpuncher.

When I play my Dad, I'm an all court player.

Dad is a 3.5 and my buddy is a 5.5.

So, what kind of player I am is directly correlated to my shot tolerance.

I can still S&V against a 5.5...I'll just lose a lot more points.

I'm an awful all court player because I'm out of shape. Now I'm considering going S&V just to leave more energy for return games.
You have to have strong legs & core for good S&V in my opinion. The points are short but you spend alot of energy being low and ready to spring.

To me and I'm only talking about myself, I hit with alot of topspin and it's not easy on my body so much so the next day my body is still recovering. I use an eastern FH groundstroke grip that kinda helps with continental volley grip so I've been meaning to tap into volleying as another one of my weapon anyways. I don't mind losing my service game because I can reserve energy on my return games where my groundstroke *might* equalize the score. What I can't stand is pushers or counter puncher deplete my stamina through pointless rallies just because they play often and I only play like two or three times a week.

TLDR: I like play fast.

I play attacking tennis against people who are in better shape than me.

I play defensively against those who aren't in better shape than me, or who I can count on to hit the ball out after 3 or 4 shots. Unfortunately as a I get older, the attacking is a necessity more and more.
