Who predicted the last 12 months and what was it about?

It's been quite spectacular how the momentum over the last 12 months changed within the Big Four - from the all over the world dominating Djokovic with his first RG title and prospects to win even a Grand Slam to an extremly consistent Murray reaching #1 at the end of the year, Federer coming back from a 6 month injury break, dominating the first part of the season an winning his first GS title since 2012 beating his arch enemy Nadal in an emotional five setter in the final before Nadal goes King of Clay again and sweeps away the whole clay season as if it was still 2008.

I could've predicted a lot 12 months ago but this is/was just beyond my imagination. How great is ATP tennis?? I'm just loving it!

So - what were the predictions last year after RG, be it here in TT or elsewhere. Fails & spot on, everything welcome. I guess that might be fun to see retrospectively :)

Sasier than the search function might be going to the thread overview back then, adding for example adding /page-194 to your URL:

Just a couple of reads here:
https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/index.php?threads/is-djokovic-greater-than-federer-and-nadal.564947/
Considering his NCYGS, his superior H2H against rivals Nadal, Federer, Murray and the way dismantled Federer in Wimbledon in 2014 and 2015 (Fed's supposedly favourite surface) and defeated Nadal on his favourite surface in 2015 .....I think he is superior to Federer in the GOAT debate in every way. Right now the title vs runner up stats is Djokovic 12-8, Nadal 14-6 and Federer 17-10 These 10 runner up trophies are mostly gifts from Nadal and Djokovic who are superior to Federer. To me Djokovic at this point is superior to Nadal given his NYCGS and various other records like WTF and world no.1 and everything else. Djokovic is highly discredited and not given his due because he comes from a second world communist country which does not fit the pro Federer and pro Nadal media.

TEN slam finals. TEN. He's won just 2 but he's lost to either Fed, Novak or Rafa...the 3 greatest players of all time.

He's also been in 9 slam semis. He's also been in 7 QF's. So, in the slams he's played, he's gotten to the quarter-finals or better 26 times. That's remarkable. He has an 81% winning percentage in slams.

He's also won 36 titles overall and an Olympic Gold. This guy is one of the top 15 players of ALL TIME, no question. For him, he's been up against the 3 greatest players ever. And, it's not like he's never beaten them.
He's beaten these three 28 times in his career...TWENTY EIGHT times.

The guy has had a brilliant career and is not appreciated enough. Without question, one of the top 15 players of all time...probably somewhere between 12-15.

No spoilers but if Djokovic had won the French Open today, would it hurt his long-term career because since he'd have accomplished his biggest goal, he would lose motivation to perform at the level he had been previously?

This is kinda what happened to Murray after he won Wimbledon.
Thats actually one of the best threads!

Not giving away any spoilers in this thread, but today showed how everyone thought Djokovic was going to cruise to the French Open title, and it wasn't so easy in the end, was it?

Winning 3-5 more Slams is still a monumental task - especially now that Djokovic has begun to show visible evidence of decline. And don't forget that Nadal is still a moving target. He had just begun to find top form again when the wrist injury struck and who knows how easily a fully healthy Nadal might have swept the clay season this year? When Nadal is back to full health, he may well resume the old head-to-head domination of Djokovic he had dealt out in the mid-to-late 2000's.

Remember that form is temporary, class is permanent. Djokovic is still relatively a flash in the pan. Fourteen Slams and counting just spells class.
Have a look at the poll result!

Now that he is the undisputed GOAT and he pretty much has the remaining 2 slams for 2016 in the bag, that brings him to 14 slams by the end of this year.

2017-2018 he will peak, adding another 8 slams to his collection.

So we are looking at a BARE MINIMUM of 20+ slams, smashing all records in the process. Let's assume he starts to decline at age 32+, and brings in an average of 2 slams a year after that, I say it's highly likely he breaks the 30 slam mark. Thoughts?

Do you think Nadal will win anymore Slams before he retires? If so, how many?

But i think that this year with how Djokovic dominates and how the others are non existent the chances for the GCYGS is very high!!!

A bit like the space time continuum when Biff goes back in time to give his younger self the sports book. History will be rewritten on epic levels. And here is why.

2016 Wimbledon - Djokovic wins 13th slam

2016 USO - Djokovic wins 14th slam and the (golden) Grand Slam

2017 AO - Djokovic wins 15th slam

2017 FO - Djokovic wins 16th slam

2017 Wimbledon - Djokovic wins 17th slam

2017 USO - Djokovic wins 18th slam, consecutive Grand Slams and becomes the record holder for most slams won by a man.

Have fun finding more :)

AO: Anybody, really. All 4 will have a good chance. In order of probability, best chance first, I think - Fed, Djoko, Murray, Nadal

Federer is not winning another slam.

Let's wait and watch...

How much waiting is finally enough for you, I wonder.

When Fed gets his 18th, that's when it gets enough and makes it worth the wait.

Never mind. I don't bother waiting.

Quoting myself *cough* *without meaning to boast much* *cough* :D

All four men have proven themselves as true greats of the game.

And let us not forget the contribution of Stan 'The Man' Wawrinka, who snatched the US Open away from Novak Djokovic last year, and was runner-up only to the great Bull in Paris.

These men have lifted our beloved sport to new heights. The younger generation are.....well, simply mugs.

There was one made elsewhere, on about January 3rd, which predicted that Djokovic would not make any slam finals this year. It goes without saying that that post was greeted with hoots of derisive laughter and scorn, so much so the thread itself was escorted out of the main forum and left to languish in other parts...

... Until Djokovic's retirement in his match against Berdych at Wimbledon. With what must have been a trifle embarrassment, the thread was restored to the main forum, and suddenly everyone was waiting to see whether Djokovic would play USO.

He didn't - and a prediction that had seemed totally incongruous at the beginning of the year, turned out to be eerily correct.

I expected Rafa to win another Slam or two but not 2 in the same season and didn't think he could return to number 1 ranking again.

I didn't expect F to win anymore slams especially after the injury he had last year and had to be out for like 6 months.
