Who should gilbert coach next?

I support Feliciano Lopez. If he had Djokervic's backhand he'll be top 10. Nadal is a good choice, but he's happy with Uncle Toni now. I think Nadal should work with two coaches simultanaeously, that way Gilbert can give team Nadal a view from a different angle.

Perhaps if he coached a female player he would be able to keep the job longer, at least she can go into the lockerroom to get a moment of peace. ;)

I have a hard time imagining Gilbert coaching anyone who is not from an english speaking country, maybe it's just me though.

I thought this about Nadal. He would probably need a translator on the court because Nadal's english is so bad.

Gilbert should coach Nadal, I bet he gets hard just thinking about the possibility.
   You know hes had at least one wet dream about it. Gilbert would be in PR heaven just lappin that attention up like a little puppy dog. Nadal would be his new toy and he would never let go(at least until not until he starts to suck)!

If Gilbert weren't under contract to the LTA, a logical choice could be Dmitry Tursunov. He's an underachiever with a brash game (the type of guy Gilbert's had results with), and like Gilbert, he resides in Northern California.

if he's still under contract with LTA, that's too bad cause i think he might be the only one who could pull blake's head out of his !#@$~@$#%!$#%!#$!$

Gilbert signed a multi-year contract with the Lawn Tennis Association or Federation, so I think he will be staying put with them until 2009.
I thought his contract only went through 2008, but I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to drop him sooner. I can't see them paying him that much money a year if Murray no longer wants him.

Perhpas start coaching some WTA players.
Do you realize that WTA allows real-time coaching (not on-court as it is usually termed, because it happens outside the sidelines LOL) these days, and the coaching is captured on TV?

Rethink your idea with this new piece of information.

Imagine a losing Vera Zvonareva crying while Gilbert lectures her.

If Brad Gilbert coached any of the players with as much talent as any of the ones you guys have said he would make them into a huge threat.

Gilbert should coach Gasquet. No doubt in my mind that Gasquet has the most unrealized potential in the world right now.

Exactly. This is big money, so you can bet the contract is airtight. There should be a solid escape clause in this contract b/tw the LTA and Gilbert: if Murray doesn't want him, they let him go. BG should get a nice severance package from the LTA, and he should have someone new to coach soon. It would be nice for the USTA to hire BG for a bit to works with the likes of Reynolds, Levine, Kuznetsov, Isner, etc.

Gilbert will probably not coach a non american player. I would really like him to coach blake but blake will never leave his old coach. Its too bad that conners and roddick are still together because Roddick could really use gilberts help. Other than that Querrey and Young come to mind as well as golovin despite her not being american.

Gilbert's a short-term fixer. He takes players who already have grand slam potential and tweaks their games/attitudes to elevate them to the next level-Top 10. That's the way it has to be, because otherwise, no human being can put up with the guy for very long. It may be better that he take on a non-English speaking player; that way, the player will be spared most of Gilbert's babble.

Good ones. Both of you.

Gilbert to stay with Britsh tennis after Murray split

LONDON, Nov 18 (Reuters) - American coach Brad Gilbert is to continue working for the British Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) on a shortened contract following his split with Andy Murray.

Gilbert signed a three-year contract with the LTA in 2006, with his main role to work with Murray, Britain's top player and currently number 11 in the world.

However, after the pair parted company last week, the LTA renegotiated their arrangement with Gilbert.

"We have reduced his contract down by knocking eight months off it, we have reduced the number of weeks down to 20 from 40 because he is not travelling with Andy," LTA chief executive Roger Draper told BBC Radio 5 Live on Sunday.

"We have set him a new challenge of getting Alex Bogdanovic (ranked 161) into the top 100 to fulfil his potential and he will spend 15 or 16 weeks working with Alex, both here and at tournaments around the world.

"We also want him to work on 'upskilling' our coaches and inspiring the next generation to follow in Andy's footsteps."

Draper said that there would not be any financial compensation for Gilbert, who he said was happy instead to be given free time to dedicate to coaching elsewhere or doing media work.

"I think it is win-win for all concerned," he said. "He brings a lot of knowledge to British tennis and we want to continue that."

Draper said the split between Gilbert and Murray had been based on off-court issues. "I think they just stopped getting on," said Draper. Andy is 20 and Brad is 46, it was two guys who stopped enjoying each other's company on the tour."

"From a tennis point of view both guys are world class -- I don't think it was anything to do with the tennis it was something off the court." (Editing by Pritha Sarkar)

Yeah people with no talent can serve up bombs at 130mph on a consistent basis. And take a set away from federer at his first grandslam appearance.
Exactly, players with no talent can still serve big if they are tall. and he has no other weapons other than the serve. that is what is call no talent.

Del potro will start hitting bombs soon, he has already imporved his serve great deal. he is serving consistantly in 120's and occasionally in 130's. All the pros not amateurs over 6'2" tall has big serves.

That's a pretty absurd statement. Even if you are tall, it still requires skill and talent to be able to hit serves the way they do.

If you discount physical ability from talent, then you can basically say that of every player in the world. You'd have to say Federer has no talent because his live arm allows him to get wicked racket speed, which lets him hit those ferocious ground strokes. That's stupid, right?
