I stopped using that word a few years ago and the funny thing is that it sounds so ghetto now. I stopped saying yo when I heard this 40 year old man from Connecticut use it constantly and he was supposed to be some sort of executive. He looked and sounded like an idiot and guess what, he is an idiot. Does yo dumb you down after a certain age? It sure looks that way.

You mean cockney English really say yo? I would have never guessed. I thought they said things like bloody ell and ****e.

I cringe when I hear old foggies like me using words like Yo or My Bad or Wazzup.

It's like a middle aged man cruising a college bar. :)

r,

Although it's a legitimate word, it still gets people in trouble because some people think it's a racist comment. A *****rd is simply a cheap person.

Tons of folks of all ages use stuff as an ironic gag, but I think you are asking who is using that stuff seriously. If anyone is using it seriously, be aware you are looking like a serious nincompoop.

Yo is now officially a part of the American vernacular. When I call my friends, they answer w/ either "Yo" or "What's Up?". When I greet my friends, I say "Yo, whats up?" And it's not just a race thing, all my friends, black white and other, still use "yo". I don't know when "yo" went out of style, so I don't see what's so uncool about still using it. At this pt, yo will never go away. It has replaced "hi" in informal settings.

you guys are lucky, sounds like you work in the same cushy safe environment every day. I often work in the inner city. Where everyone looks like a dangerous scumbag like the guy in David_is_White photo. Switchblades, people crapping on the street, people walking with serynges and crackpipes, getting socked on the chin by a tyson sized banger or followed home by a ganf of muggers....just life in the city
In a world like mine, the word "yo" can be more valuable and versatile than any knuckle dusters, bear spray, or desert eagle. You really have to use one of the four just to get down the street though. You guys have fun in corporate...I think your wife has a hot meal waiting for your perfect lonely life at home...I'll be packing my "yo" like it was an atm card...judge all you wan't in my world "Yo" is one of ten valuable words which will give you safe access through the hell which is the ghetto.

You've got to get kidding me! I grew up in NYC where yo is more common than in a Rocky movie. How can you think that saying yo will make you more popular among inner city residents? If anything, they look down on you for that. Take it from a true NYC resident, saying yo makes you look like an idiot.

I think both of our posts are accurate.

I still say 'Yo' in place of high.

As for Rickson's comment about his word- its never cool to say the "N" word. I don't who's saying it or who its being said to, etc... I've been known to throw down on someone who uses that word around me. Its demeaning and derogitory and makes the actualy person saying look like an unintelligent tool.

It was okay when Rocky Balboa called out to his love.

Are you guys talking about 'yo at the beginning or at the end of a sentence?

At the beginning, I guess it's kind of cheesy. At the end, it's just plain poseurish. IMHO.

I'm just thinking of that idiot from CT. He was 40 years old and in a position of power, but he spoke like a fool and he turned out to be one too. A typical sentence from him would be, I went there yesterday and yo they didn't have it.
