Who thinks Federer should stick with his current racquet??

Clearly Rog needs a bigger frame, a real coach to provide focus, and to switch to a two handed backhand if he has any chance to catch Pete.
Oh wait ... it looks like he just lucked out against Soderling.
Never mind.

Yes he should stick with his racket which is a 90! Watch King Of Aces come in here and try to prove that Federer uses a 100 or something.

He is doin quite nicely the way it is .. anyone with a brain can see that. if he should use a 80 sq inch he would still rule if no wind or djoko rafa or murray is around .

No way he changes now - he said himself that he can play in peace now after winning FO. He's not going to serve as well with any other frame - heck, he only lost 17 points on serve the whole match today.

That 95 is working great for fed! He already won the french something he was unable to do with the 90!!

The thicker beam is working great too, maybe he should try port holes like they have in them prince racquet, seem to really help monfils in the quarters

After 14 Grand Slams and the Career Grand Slam, yes, time to reassess his gear (I type sarcastically).

I still think a bigger headsize, say 95'', would make things much easier for him.

Definetely a larger head racquet with lead tape around the circumference. Only as a weapon to smack weirdos dressed in red costumes and goofy hats envading his physical space on the court.

Otherwise stay with the 90", that size has gotten him 14 slams on all 4 grand slam surfaces. Why upset that delicate, but solid game he has. Federer is not a mere tennis player, he is a classic and as a true Classic Player he would use the more classic pure 90 inch frame. The 90 inch frame leaves no room for error and you have to be damn good to use it. You have to be as good as none other than Roger Federer. I own a Kfactor 90 and I can't hit worth a hoot with it, but it's just a novelty for me that I can display the racquet as one used by The "GOAT".

I repeat the "GOAT" "GOAT" "GOAT"

I think that it is interesting that the two players who have earned 14 Grand Slam titles both played with racquets with head sizes of 90 & 85 sq inch.

i think wilson should come out with a limited edition k90 with a special paint job to commemorate federer's completion of the career grand slam :)

I think the order of the posts is correct now.

BTW..doing some research, it's obvious that Federer should indeed change racquets. The majority of majors won in men's singles were won with.....

a Dunlop Maxply Fort - 67 square inches (Laver+Emerson+Nastase+all the others who used the Fort)

the ProStaff - 85 sqaure inches is second (Sampras+Courier+Edberg)

and now....

the n90 is third.....

Federer really should think about getting Wilson to build him something really special that is more like one of the first two.

After all, KOA said that Federer shanked more with a 95 and went down to a 90...

Maybe if Federer changed to a standard sized head, he'd win the Grand Slam in 2010 and beyond.....!!!!

Two weelks ago Fed needed a new coach, a new racquet, and to retire.

Now he is the "greatest in the history of the game."

Some people sure are groupie bandwagon-jumpers.

I think his past struggles have been more about a psychological block...losing confidence, especially with Nadal. Now that he has his French, I think his head will be much stronger for future tournaments.

However, I do think hiring a full time coach is a good idea...

The 2 best players in history use small frames (Sampras & Federer). Doesn't that say anything to you?

And don't forget Laver's and Borg's 65 sq. in. wood racquets, Connors' tiny steel racquet, and Lendl's tiny graphite racquet. :)

Smaller the headsize the more feel and control.
Just don't want it TOO small, makes it a bit too difficult.
I personally wouldn't mind switching to an 85 from my Ksix1 tour or maybe just a tad bit more open string pattern.
Yeah alot of people now-adays just dont realize how important ball feel is along side the importance of a smaller head. It makes me want to vomit.
If you want to see me rant about the Babolats just go look in the rant section.

Only thing I would say Roger should change is get some custom extra fine like 19 gague strings and maybe string a bit tighter. Otherwise it would be disasterous to change something as drastic as the frame now. Look at all the problems Djoko got when he switched, and that was to a racquet with very similar specs.
Switching racquets (even to a better suited racquet) is very bad at the pro level. It really makes players have to relearn all their shots. But many people who don't understand always bring up the argument that they will be good with anything, why not be better with a better suited racquet? That doesn't have anything to do with what really happens. I wont go into it but yeah, a change that drastic would really thwart Roger (do a lot more damage than possible good). He would be better off just watching tapes of himself and his opponents, which im ABSOLUTLY SURE he does.

I love federer and really still liked him and told everyone hes just in a funk or somthing and he will pull out and get back ontop to World no 1. It sure looks like he will. I will always love him, Djoko and Safin no matter how much the latter two make me frusterated. If you put Nadal's workman attitude and mind in Safins body and talent you would have a stronger, 2hbh even even more explosive (not quite as feather light tho ahah) Federer. I love watching the 05 AUS Fed V Safin match over and over and over.... That was the Greatest Match of ALL Time.
Pure beauty on both sides of the court rediculous shot selection, perfect execution all with the ball going like 80-90mph consistanly. Beauty by definition.
What were we talking about again? I get sidetracked by all this Federer being amazing stuff.

You are crazy if you think Roger will change to a two handed backhand. That shot in his game is so beautiful to watch and is perfectly executed. Some might say that it lets him down but if you actually watch him you would see that he hits many winners off it.

Most of the pros I know at these Florida Tennis Academies, all say the trend is toward -all court game styles, one handed backhands and heavier rackets-. And I did say 'trend', mind you. Plenty of kids with two handers, staying back and hitting massive topsin forehands like Nadal. There is nothing wrong with copying Nadal's grinding style. But in my opinion this will take its toll on your body long term. But to give respect to Nadal, he has many more majors to win with his style. It is quite effective. I would prefer Fed's more efficient style of swing. Less wear and tear on the body and its easier to hit one-handed backhands when you are older.

That is why tennis has never been better. Plenty of ways to play.

Oh my god, Just kill this thread. Look dummy, he's been playing with the same racquet the whole time. Changing of racquets is only for the public so they can buy his "new" racquet. He hasn't changed anything. Maybe his strings and that's it. He's been using the same custom racquet he's been using since he's started. Let's say he did change racquets, and he's been playing this crappy for the past year and a half. Wouldn't you assume that he would change back to his old racquet from 2004 and just keep the same paintjob as the kfactor 90? Hmmm... use some logic.

He would have to have 20 rackets in his bag because he would be snapping strings right left and center. He has fine tuned his racket. I have tried his racket with his string set up within the tension range he uses and also going up to high 50s to low 60s. Going up higher made the racket play much stiffer and the sweet spot greatly shrank. Federer knows what strings he needs/wants.

The K90 does have a fairly large spot for a mid, as the above poster kindly states.

The sweet spot on the K90 makes the sweet spot on the N90 feel like it is about the size of a dime. I guess the change in string pattern and beam thickness is what enlarged the sweet spot.

The beam width on both the nCode 90 and the K90 are the same at 17mm. It's also stated as such on Wilson's website and on Wilson's spec sheets. I've also measured many of them to confirm this.

I thought I read that the N 90 was 17mm vs. the K 90 18mm. My mistake

Only thing left for Federer is the 2012 Olympics singles title and he is going to retire at that point. Is it worth switching frames now? Maybe and maybe not. Why bother if there is not much to achieve? On the other hand, why not use a bigger frame and make life easier before retirement? He can certainly experiment now - the FO burden is off his shoulder.

I'm not sure if this was directed at me or not, but MY point was that the calls for Fed to change frames were, shall we say, just a 'bit' ridiculous? (Not to mention uninformed) ;) BHBH
