Who was #1 when you were born?

That's your own fault. You could easily have worked on your forearm pronation.

The week starting the 28th of March 1994 had GOHG as #1, followed by Smoothie, Lumberjack, Killer, Los Angeles Lakers, I Go Boom With My Left Arm and My Brain, Ukranian, Speedy Gonzalez, Serve Destroyer and Magnus Gustafsson. I won't tell the day I was born though, but it was in that week.

#1 was Borg.
John McEnroe just won his first US Open right before I was born.

Maybe one day I will get (or buy myself) ticket to US Open for my bday present :)

I didn't realize the majority of the forumites are so young.

For myself it was a prime Pancho Gonzales

Lew Hoad. 1956. He won the first three majors that year, but missed the calendar Grand Slam when he was upset by Ken Rosewall in the US Open final.

Just one correction. Open means both professional and amateur players can play in the tournament. That wasn't the case until 1968.

Yeah, that's true. It was the US Championship at Forest Hills, an amateur event. Hoad turned pro in 1957 after winning another Wimbledon, so he might have won a few more majors after that, but we'll never know.
