I’ve been thinking about who has had a better career at 19. Sinner has had decent success at slams for someone in his generation, making the Miami final, and plays well for his peer group. Djokovic made the QF of the 2006 French Open, right before he turned 20 he won Miami 2007, 4th round of the 2007 AO but lost against peak Federer. My vote is for Djokovic personally.

Djokovic was taking a set from 2006 Peak Federer on clay.
If Sinner was facing 2007 AO Federer (the best Federer ever), he would have won even less games than Djokovic : 6-1, 6-3, 6-1

Do you see Young Djokovic losing finals against Hurkacz while he defeated Hardcourtdal in straight and routined Canas (who defeated Peak Federer) ?

No way.

Sinner is lucky to not have faced Peak Claydal unlike Djokovic.

Look this match, Djokovic pushed Peak Claydal very hard for two sets, much than Sinner.

2007 FO Djokovic would have taken the first set against the Nadal of yesterday

Djokovic easily and it's not close.

- played better against a better Nadal at RG in 2007 than Sinner did
- reached RG QF and Wimb 4R in 2006, followed it up by also losing to peak Fed in the 4th round at AO 2007, thus showing all surface versatility.
- won Miami in impressive fashion, while Sinner lost to Hurkacz (LMAO with capital letters)
- also reached the IW final before that.
- actually won a set against peak Fed in 2006 in MC while Sinner was destroyed by a Djokovic who wasn't even good in MC.

And Djokovic also took a set to Peak Fast Hardcourterer at Dubai too in 2007.

Great highlights. I’m always slightly shocked by how big young Djokovic’s FH looks in highlights. He was really powerful.

Also crazy Nadal’s level in that match, Djokovic played really well and it was still a routine win.

Exactly, Djokovic only dropped his level in the third set because he gave everything in the first two sets.
While Sinner dropped his level at 5-3 in the first set (and still he lost the set with 3 W and 25 UE).
Young Djokovic would have lost at least to Nadal in 4 sets, maybe in 5

Djokovic was never a ballbasher (althought yes he was more agressive). He was already a great player with a much better FH (a good FH is not only power ) and better serve than Sinner at his age.

Sinner has great ball striking skills and his ability to drive them is probably better than Djoker at this age.
But almost every other skill, Djoker was above him at this stage. Court coverage, tactical play, court sense. Able to hit angles.
Maybe there serve is close, but I give Djoker better serve consistency at that age.

Ha !

Is this post a joke?

Sinner isn't worth even the shoelaces of Djokovic at 19

Novak in 2006 made the Quarterfinals of the french open and I think he was still 18 or maybe just turned 19 ... then in 2007 he made the semis of FO and he probably was around his 20th birthday and within months made the USO final and won the AO at 20.

Sinner will turn 20 soon, he is a nobody and from his game he seems to remain a nobody.

Musetti seems more iron willed, just needs to become mentally tougher and work on his fitness, he will win a slam by 20-21 if he does that, Sinner I dont think so.

If Sinner can win either Cincy or the Rogers Cup, he's close to Novak at 20. He has already has made the final of Miami, which is one of the two biggest Masters.

At 19, Sinner has a better forehand, but Novak has the better backhand. I think Sinner's fitness is better, but Novak had the mentality. You can develop the mentality, but it won't be easy. I know Novak's fitness was caused by a health issue, but it did hold him back.

Djokovic made the final of USO, won AO and made the SF of RG (lost to Rafa) when he was 20. You see Sinner doing equal or better than this? I don't think so

If only Djokovic could still hit his forehand like he did back then, I'd actually be quite confident he could win this year's French Open.

Djokovic needs to be bring those days when he used to hit those lung bursting shots with lot of power ..... those were the days when he posted challenges to everyone..... with age he seems to have lost that power.

2011 Djokovic needs to be back and he can win the French Open

I think if Sinner can avoid the big 3, he can get to a final at either of the hard court Grand Slams. Remember that when Novak got to the 07 final, Rafa was not yet a factor on hard courts at all. Given that Novak is the other member of the big 3, the only other member he can play is Roger. The hardest person Novak played outside of the big 3 that year was DelPo, who was 19. That's not an easy draw, but I think DelPo still needed to beef up before he could get to the level where he could compete with the big 3.

So, Novak played a young DelPo and and Roger. He won one handily, lost the other in straights (but he did get to two tie-breakers). Sinner has a win against Zverev and Tsitsipas. Can he beat Medvedev? I think he could at least play him close. It all depends on the draw.

Djokovic.

The comparisons between Sinner and Big 3 are grossly unfair since we already pretty much know that players of their calibre won't come a long for a few years at least
