Unfortunately with Dexter, as likeable as he was, a few innocent people were being killed indirectly, as a result of his vigilante justice.
All I'm saying is it's my favourite show and it's a good show. Enjoyed it more than BB and GOT.

I got somewhere into season 2. I did think it was interesting and liked it, just not as much as the hype. I found Vikings and Spartacus better.
Vikings is one of my favorites too. But unfortunately it got boring for me after Ragnar/Ecbert dies

Seasons 2 and 3 are kinda slow and boring to some degree. It gets better with each season from 1 to 5 and S05 is an absolute masterpiece, possibly the GOAT TV series season and the main reason why it gets so hyped.

I always thought GoT slowly went downhill after Tyrion left King’s Landing at the end of season 4. The first 4 seasons (especially the fourth) were brilliant though. Unfortunately the last couple of seasons make the show as a whole impossible for me to revisit.

It's not for me. I have heard all the arguments and even went as far as full 3 seasons. But never genuinely liked it so stopped finally.

I loved GOT a lot, I have watched it like many times, some episodes I must have watched like 10 times.

So you watched a show to blend in with your friends? lol... why would you do that ? A Tv show which I loathe as I find it super boring is FRIENDS, I watched 1 episode of that and just disliked it, so I rejected it. In my friends circle everyone was watching Friends as if it some cool thing, I never cared.

Idk what it is with TV shows but when people hype something to the moon, I automatically know it won't be for me. Tried it with True Blood and Game of Thrones etc and always like "meh" lol. I have zero interest in Squid Game bc of how it blew up. I'm kinda curious about Stranger Things but I feel I wouldn't like that either bc of the intergalactic hype

True Blood is amazing.... one of my fav shows in this millennium... in my top 10 for sure

01. Supernatural
02. Vampire Diaries
03. True Blood
04. Game of Thrones
05. Breaking Bad
06. The 100
07. YOU
08. Ancient Aliens
09. Suits
10. 24

Definitely my favorite for sure.

Agree to disagree mate. I couldn't imagine wasting my time doing something I don't enjoy just so I have some extra to talk about with friends...

Well, to know if you are going to like something or not you have to watch it. I've read books and watched movies I didn't like much, I'm not going to reread/rewatch them but the first time you don't know how much you are going to enjoy it.

I just feel any show that says watch until season x it gets better is not a good thing.

Hype was high for GOT and when people didn't like it, they were told it gets better.

I think I stopped watching early in the second season because there was a weak episode that made me lose interest (maybe even E1 of S2). My memory is that Skyler was a main culprit, but I can't be sure.

In case you wonder, do I always stop watching a series if there's a single weak episode? No, but usually yes.

1. Walter - annoying POS the whole way through the show
2. Ted - Bought a Mercedes instead of paying off IRS
3. Marie - Got others in trouble because of her stealing and also lying about it.
4. Skyler - Although justified, I did find her to be generally cold
Your favorite movie of all time is probably Life is Beautiful.

GOT is great from the 1st episode itself.

They give hints of what lies beyond the wall, show the Stark, Lannister houses, Khal Drogo also appears in 1st episode along with Khaleesi.... in the end of the episode Brandon is pushed from the top of the tower.

So enough drama for someone to watch the entire show, if you liked episode 1 then you will have reasons to watch more of it as it comes..... for liking any show we need to like like the pilot episode.... no point forcibly watching something to develop a taste

We agree, however it wouldn't take 3 seasons.

I didn't like ep 1

There weren't many annoying characters on this show for me although there were plenty of despicable ones. I guess if I had to go with annoying, I would go with Marie.

Episode 1 was ok but then I got bored from episodes 2-4 or 2-5 or so and I almost gave up watching it. I was like this is what people are raving about? Then it kicked into another gear and I was hooked after that.

Imagine if Marie was Walter's wife ? She would have driven him mad and got him arrested in season 1 itself.

The loudmouth petty woman was a shoplifter herself but in season 5 she was provoking Hank to go after Walter in every possible way, she also tried to steal Skyler and Walter's kids.....

I'm surprised Jane isn't on the list, many people hate this character.
Well Dexter wasn't killing for no reason. He had to satisfy his own psychopathic urges or he would go insane, but what makes the show good is that he's still somehow likeable despite that. He makes sure that he directs his urges towards people who arguably deserve to be killed. Aka only people who have murdered others.
I was a big fan of Dexter but the show lost quality after the fourth season and Trinity, at the end the series became gross with Debra wondering if she is in love with Dexter, there is no more suspense because the only competent and capable police officers to stop Dexter disappear like Doakes, Laguerta, Lundy, just the idiots remain: Quinn, Batista, Masuka. So we feel that Dexter is invincible and unstoppable and have no risk of being arrested.

For Breaking bad i'm surprised Jane isn't on the list, many people hate this character :) todd was and an horrible character

I remember watching (GoT) the first season when it came out and the second one a bit after it came out and wasn't really hooked, a few years later I started watching it right from the beginning again and was really hooked. Now it's one of my top 3/4 shows ever. Breaking Bad is also up there for me.

I found Jane to be a harmless junkie, so did not find her annoying. If Jane is annoying then Jesse's friends are all annoying too I guess...

Todd is a horrible character but he was loyal to whoever he liked, remember he forced his uncle to leave a barrel behind for Walter against their wishes because he respected Mr White a lot. He shooting that biker kid was really really really bad, made us hate him for a while.

Yea she was pretty annoying overall tbh and loved sticking her nose in business that didn't concern her.

Maybe you don't like anything which is not set in the modern era... ? The Story needs to be in the modern times, is that the case ?
Yeah probably. Although I hated lotr on first watch but since then it became very fun on rewarches.

This DARK world of the writer along with themes of incest is what drove me away very fast.

In ancient times incest was very common, people were all rough and uncouth, they were not upto your modern day feminist value or whatever.... So whatever show in GOT was not just prevalent in UK/Europe but in all parts of the world, that kind of rough lifestyle, politics, killing was all common. Minus the Dragon and Whitewalkers fiction added to it, the show is really good even without them if you like to watch life as it would have been in ancient times.

She was also brainwashing Jesse against Walt and threatened to go to the police.

Yeah, so when she OD'd I had no sympathy for her, I guess if I was in Walt's place then even I would have done what he did, just left her to die. However Walt as we saw went too far and became more and more callous towards collateral damage as the show progressed.... he even poisoned that Brock kid without any remorse afterwards. The character transformation of Walter White in Breaking Bad is just brilliant.... the writers did an amazing job.

Brother I knew you would come in defense of incest lol.

Jane was weak and i love the character or i have a crush on Krysten Ritter, the only problem : she introduced Jesse to heroin.

Incest was common worldwide in ancient times, as people became more and more civilized they understood that this was wrong and started marrying from different bloodlines.... So there is nothing to defend incest, it was prevalent in ancient times. Don't be a snowflake to use incest as an excuse to talk against Game of Thrones. It is a masterpiece show. That LOTR is nothing compared to GOT, LOTR is too much fantasy and less content, GOT is opposite, it is all content and less of fantasy.

GOT is all kill kill kill. It's really horrible to watch for me. And incest is another thing that is disgusting. I think the writer just kept on trying to be edgy. I have no idea about 16th century Europe or whatever.

If anyone is fan of historical shows, watch Rome. It was the most expensive HBO show before they released GOT. Both the seasons are very entertaining.
Or if you just want politics, then you can watch John Adams. It's extremely well executed show.

GOT is what it would be to live in a lawless land. I can think of some dictatorial regimes of the past and present when comparing them to GOT.

Great show. Almost everyone on screen is a terrible person, but it's always funny to see viewers getting annoyed at a mean wife when there are child murderers running around. With that said, Marie was the least enjoyable one to watch. Uncle Jack felt too basic, but got carried by Todd quite a bit. Shame how safely they decided to play the last few episodes out. Especially after recently seeing HBO's "Barry" take the advantage of having all those characters set up. It's not like they had to go full surreal, but they already showed with "Peakaboo" (has to be their best episode) and "The fly" that they can mix things up. Vince and Peter struggle quite a bit with finishing the story and we end up with those disasters like el camino or the 2nd half of the last BCS season. At least those didn't last as long as the s7/8 of GOT where we got probably the biggest quality drop of any tv show.

If you've got time for 5+ seasons then Sopranos blows everything else out of the water. If not, then recently released "The Curse" has no competition, though it's better to familiarize yourself with Fielder's and Safdie's work before watching.

bruh.. You can just as easily say ,
'Rome is all kill kill kill. It's really horrible to watch for me. And incest is another thing that is disgusting'
and you'd be just as right. I think each of us have very different tastes and its just futile attempt to justify them to others. :)

I don't know if those are comparable. Since Rome is fairly based on real history.

I am not trying to justify my taste. I didn't like the attitude of @Razer in all posts which is get over it, don't be snowflake. That's how ALL the period shows should be.

I can ask this simple thing. If incest is so common in ancient Europe or whatever time period this FICTIONAL story comes from, why was it so much hated by the general populous in the kingdom then?

I've not seen the wire, I am hearing people praise the wire for like 10-12 years now, I've never watched an episode of that. Is that good ? It is rated very high on IMDB too.

I really disliked Jesse whenever he tried to go against Walt. Also very much disliked Mike whenever he tried to put down Walter just because he got the better of him. There were few moments later in the show where he blamed WW's ego for ruining the Business empire Fring had. I was like, my guy, it's you and your employers arrogance , ego and merciless threats that eventually forced Walt to take drastic measures. not to mention the fact that you're supposed to be a cold, emotionless hitman who works for money and you call someone else arrogant because he outsmarted you? lol

IMO absolutely yes! I wasn't a fan of African American slang when i started the show, it was such a turnoff that i even considered giving up on it after an episode or two. Also at that time it was only available in 4:3 aspect ratio. Somehow i stuck with it and by the time i finished it , it had become one of my most fav shows. i got real familiar with the Baltimore lingo as well lol.
i'd describe it as the most realistic tv show i've ever watched. yet it is so dramatic and the story lines and characters are highly engrossing and their decision makings feel absolutely earned in every turns. so much so that it ruined all the other cop shows for me, i mean anytime i see a commercial cop shows nowadays i can easily point out the amateurish errors instantly.

Incest was taboo among the rich classes then but it was not something which did not happen among the poor section of society, we are talking about a timeline which resembles 1000 years ago. Even 500 years ago women were burned for being witches, imagine what would have happened 1000 or 1500 years ago ? You have no respect for history, thats why you are speaking like this. A person who has curiosity of how life would have been in ancient times would always appreciate a fictional masterpiece like GOT instead of finding trivial loopholes like incest... why are so disturbed by the plot ? It is just a plot and yes it is very realistic too, it is not lawless land, the rules and lifestyle shown in that would exactly be like that 1000 years ago.... have you heard heard of the roman emperor Caligula? Do you know what type of lifestyle he led ? Google and read about him.

Thanks....... I'll watch it in the near future... I have plans to watch Sopranos and Narcos as well. Drug based crime series is a genre which I have to explore more. Breaking Bad I watched like a decade back but it is surprising that i've not watched anything else in this genre.

It took me a bit to get into The Wire as well. First time, I must have been distracted and wasn't giving it the attention it deserves. Then I got into it again and suddenly, I was loving it. Avon ftw.

''Let me help you find your tongue.'' :giggle:

well i can see why you might think that GOT potrays incest as okayish. It doesn't. In fact if you've read the books(i think it's hinted in book one itself? not sure) or watched the show for a few more seasons you'd see that the general public were absolutely disgusted by it. I think the Targaryens are the only blood line who got an exception, once again this is also explained in the spin-off book GRRM wrote later. the public didn't like their lifestyle either but the Targaryens basically bought the high septon and gave away large benefits to the public to make that tradition stick. Eventually it didn't as well.

Blatant lie. I have huge respect for history. Would have become a historian if I knew earlier how to be one.

I have huge issue with the themes of incest and not just incest constant darkness. That's why I got bored with game of thrones. There are other shows also with high level of violence but they are not banking on being edgy to gain popularity. There is a small difference.

I haven't seen the wire but I know it has huge violence as well. But GOT had it as part of the plot itself. The joke was don't get attached to a character otherwise the writer will kill it. It's not a good thing for me.

But you can just as easily like the show. But don't tell that hating the show because of it's themes is being a snowflake when the theme is incest.
