Haha! Wow! Almost exactly the same post :D

Your post is also sort of confronting.. I mean, I instantly started reading that topic and I see a lot of names that I remember, so that must mean I'm getting old.. :(
sorry, that wasn't my intention ! ;)
(please at least have a little thought for those who are even less young than you !)

Nastase ...

Same here.
When i was little, i figured it must be billy nastase and ilie jean king.
So, i liked billy nastase before i could even keep score.

Someone above mentioned lineage. Cool concept.

After meesterr nastase, i grew to appreciate ashe, laver, and newk, then vilas, fillol, borg, mac, vitas, noah, cash, mats, becker, edberg, pete, rafter, goran, guga kuerten, corretja, korda, rios, flipper, then Federer, baghdatis, gonzalez, and now that rog is declining, i like tsonga and stan.

Becker Sampras then Federer. But the truth to be told I really admire all of the greats in their way.

Nastase for me

Yes, though I was a heavy Laver fan, Nasty always fascinated me.His rivalry with Stan Smith was just great, only that so much short lived.

Another great character of that time was John Newcombe, the truly last great aussie champion.

As for women, I was totally fascinated by Court and Bueno, yet I respected a lot BJK.

Then came Connors,Borg,Evert and Goolagong and things changed. They took the game to another ladder.

A fantastic era, whatsoever.

Don't forget Martina kiki! :)

Never was a big fan of Sampras or Agassi. Sampras showed no emotion, was cocky and had that stupid tongue hangig out of his mouth and Agassi was too much of an attention seeker in my opinion.
That's funny, I had the exact same feelings about both Sampras and Agassi.
Fantastic players but I could never really 'warm up' to either of them.

All of them are my favs, all of them!

1. Laver for his shot-making artistry and his incredible performances in the 60s

2. Sampras for his powerful and probably the best running forehand ever

3. Connors for his never give up attitude, his sarcasm and behaviour on the court. The guy's 40 when he made to the 1992 USO SF!

4. Mac for his behaviour on court, his touch is unrival

5. Borg for his cool on the court and in the match, he's so smooth on clay, his dominance at RG and Wimby is the best feat

6. Rosewall for his wicked slice backhand

7. Lendl for his top spin forehand and the passing shot

8. Agassi for his one of the best backhand and return of serve ever, he took the ball so early, one of the most charismatic players in the game

Andre Agassi and Gabriela Sabatini

I never had a favorite player before this, I just watched Wimbledon every year because my parents had it on. Then I saw Agassi lose his match to David Wheaton in the 1991 Wimbledon quarter final. I don't know what it was exactly, I just thought I like this guy and he became my favorite. Then he won Wimbledon the next year. Great stuff.

I fancied Gabriela Sabatini :)

Henman, but if I'm honest it was mostly for the National Pride that causes me to root for any British sportsman (a Welshman rooting for the England Rugby team in the World Cup Final, who ever thought of such a thing?).

Nothing wrong with cheering for England against Australia, but we always want Wales to crush England

Edberg, seeing him in late 80s and early 90s what was got my into tennis as a kid. Then Sampras/Agassi.

Mine was Becker and I hated Edberg for beating him in two Wimbledon finals including the one in the snap .. 90 final. When Becker lost first two sets 6-2, 6-2 some commentator said that maybe he is in hurry to reach Rome to catch up West Germany vs Argentina final.

Heh, and I hated Becker with a passion and Wimby '90 where Edberg had the last laugh in their Wimbledon rivalry still remains a cherished childhood memory.

I knew I made the right choice as a child. More than two decades later, Becker remains a self absorbed d-bag and Edberg is as classy and adorable as ever

Borg and Evert are my earliest memories. The former, not for long as I was very young. The latter remained a huge favourite. I was lucky because my parents, grandparents were huge tennis fans so I grew up in a tennis club environment and as my grandparents had a court at home, it was just a way of life. The world stopped during Wimbledon!

I thought Boris came across as being very likeable as a BBC commentator-not afraid to play the fool & laugh. Unlike McEnroe who remains humourless & *****ly no matter what.

McEnroe for his natural ability and fire in his belly. First guy that I saw that made me sit up and want to play - one of the greatest IMO. More recently Nalbandian for his unbelievably good two hander and all court ability. Potential not realized...

Was a fan of Roddick for about 2 hours in the USO final 2006 then became a Federer fan toward the end of the match. = 1st men's match I watched.

As an impressionable kid, the first memory of tennis was watching someone dive to make a volley. With all the boom boom thing, Becker became a favorite (I didn't even understood tennis back then)

During those days, only grand slam semis and finals used to be telecast in India. My brother was a big Edberg fan and always used to tease me when Edberg defeated Becker (3-1 in slams). It was very late in time that I came to know that Becker actually owned Edberg H2H. It was too late to get even with my brother as by then I had better understanding of the game and had started respecting Edberg both for his game and personality.

It came a full circle in Wimbledon 2014, where I was cheering for Edberg against Becker but .. :(
