Who will lose this years French Open final to Nadal, assuming of course he pulls out of the Hamburg, which is the only way he is losing the French Open, if he foolishly plays Hamburg. So assuming he pulls out of Hamburg who will lose to Nadal in the French Open final this year?

I'm going to laugh if Nadal loses before the final. Put that as an option it may be the most sensible one up there.

Keep in mind my poll is under the hypothetical even that Nadal does not play Hamburg. The only chance of Nadal not winning the French is if he plays Hamburg.

...So you don't have any confidence that he can win if he doesn't play Hamburg. And it's certain that if he pulls out he does win, where does this logic come from?

Still...I'll laugh out loud if Nadal gets ousted early. LoL. Nothing against him though. It really is a funny thought.

Nadal is on course for 7-1 against Federer (assuming federer does his job) after the french open.

If he plays Hamburg way too much tennis going into the 2-week French Open. That is why Nadal will not win the French if he plays Hamburg unless he loses early there. However if he doesnt play Hamburg he is a lock to win the French. The only thing that would prove me wrong is Nadal not winning the French, and if he doesnt play Hamburg that certainly wont hapen.

I wonder if anybody will pick a French player. It would be nice to see somebody from the home country do well if they get a very good draw. Does Grosjean have another run in a slam left, and if so the French maybe?

no i don't think grosjean. but if he runs into nadal again he's toast. or federer for that matter

again the arrogance of Federer fans. It's not a "sure thing" that Nadal wins the French Open. Federer is playing at his level on clay, and clearly can beat him any time they meet on clay now, although he hasn't in the past.

However, after a 5 hour match in which Federer was in control for much of the match -- improving on his performance at MC -- it's really arrogant to say Nadal can't lose the French Open (lets forget about all the Hamburg complications).

Btw, I happen to think that the point about Nadal should stay out of Hamburg, but I think Federer should stay in it. There are advantages and disadvantages to everything. I think for Nadal, the advantage to playing in Hamburg -- keeping his rhythm, maintaining competitiveness, etc, all of that stuff -- is outweighed by the advantage of resting.

I think for Federer, the extra comfort that he could get by playing in Hamburg, the extra refinement he could add to his game, outweighs the tiredness factor. Of course, some would argue he can do that without being in Hamburg, but eh.

There is no such thing as a lock in tennis. I dont care if your Roger Federer or Nadal, some crazy dude can just jump you and kill you, wheres the lock gone?

DashaandSafin,

Yea, well, some (not all) Nadal fans aren't particularly knowledgeable about tennis. They probably are teenagers who just started watching because Nadal's a cool teen, or something like that (or maybe they started watching to stare at Maria Sharapova).

Federer isn't a "lock" in at the Wimbledon, and there's no-one as close to him on grass as he is close to Nadal on clay. And neither is Nadal a "lock" in the French Open.
