After Roland Garros 2012, Nadal extended his record to 52-1 and won a record-breaking 7th Roland Garros title, beating Djokovic in the final, and tying Borg, Sampras and Federer for the most consecutive years of winning at least 1 slam title per year. It was his 36th clay title and 50th title overall.

Federer won a 7th Wimbledon title in 2012.

Who will be the first player to win a slam 8 times? Rafael "Channel Slam Champion" Nadal, or Federer?

Rafa. And he will be the first man in world history to do so. But only if wheelchairslams count as well.

Probably Rafa. He is more dominant at his particular Slam, plus his Slam is next up. What Rafa has done on clay is truly remarkable. I know you don't like to hear that from a *******, but it really is.

Nadal can win one slam 8 times at Roland Garros 2013, and Federer can win one slam 8 times at Wimbledon 2013.

Which would be a more impressive feat?

I'd say Roland Garros 2013, since only two players have won more than 3 titles at Roland Garros (Nadal and Borg) while three players have won more than 3 titles at Wimbledon (Federer, Sampras, Borg).

I think both would be beyond impressive. However, 7 is already very impressive for both. There's no comparison really. It's harder to dominate on faster surfaces I think, because sets can go by quicker, you don't have much time to recover. However, Rafa has been more dominant also, winning 8 titles in 9 years than, which is amazing.

I think Rafa's probably more impressive, but Roger's would be more significant, for 2 reasons:
1) He'd pass Sampras, whereas Rafa already passed Borg this year
2) Wimbledon is still the ultimate thing in tennis. The holy grail. The thing the casual sports fan likes most (at least in Europe, and at least compared to Roland Garros).

Nadal will do be the only one to do it, I imagine. Although I'm not certain he'll do it next year.

As for who's 8 would be more impressive. I'd go with Federer simply because winning 2 Wimbledons in his 30's would be amazing.

Roger "channel slam champion" Federer can be the first man to win 2 slams at least 6 times, or the first man to win 3 slams 5 times if he wins at either this year's Open or next year's AO.

Nadal is yet to win 2 slams more than 2 times each.

Depending on how soon he gets back on tour I am not sure he will have a great showing at AO13

but I would bet with this Injury and time off he will be wanting that 8th FO Badly and even more so Wimbledon after his early exit.

If Rafa keeps going, and I suspect he will, he'll be the first player to win a major 8 and 9 times.... there's no reason he can't win 8-10 French Opens.

He's the best clay courter of all-time, bar none.

I suspect he'll win 2-3 more French Opens, and 1 Other slam to pass Pete and end up with 15 majors.

He'll be a legendary champion, clearly the second best player to play the game, but 3-4 majors behind Federer, the GOAT with 18-19 majors.

Rafas slam won't count because it was won in such a weak claycourt era where Ferrer is no.4 claycourt. 90s clay was far superior... as the poster with the same name points out.

Rafael "The Impossible" Nadal.

Rafa will be winning slams in his '30s and be the first person in world history to do so. Roger stands no chance.

Even if Roger wins WO, RG comes first, so Rafa has a chance first. Rafa has a 99% chance to win RG, Fred probably has a 25 to 30% chance for WO, at best.

Nadal is likely to win RG next year so thus he is the obvious answer.

Just shows that RG is a weak slam. Or who does it first does not matter because it just shows that it is a weak slam. Actually, the one who does it last will be most impressive.

I doubt it will be Nadal and the reason is that this is the first time we have seen Nadal abandon so much of the tour due to injury, it surely must be a sign of worse things to come. He may play RG no doubt but the wolves will be out for blood. Everyone will be out in full force knowing fully well that Nadal is not the same as what he used to be.

Rafa has announced that his schedule from 2013-2035 will be to only play Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

"Look, I can probably win RG each and every year in this stretch. I mean, who do you think is going to beat me? And I can probably win 10 or so Wimbledons too. Doesn't sound bad to me".

My best guess would be Rafa because RG comes before Wimby but both of them will get number 8 in 2013.

As Rafael Nadal's lawyer you have made up fake quotes about my client and he'll be taking you to court.

...because currently Nadal at 11 is a long way from 17 and the only way to bridge the gap is...
