Fed is at 362 match wins in 4 majors, Nole is at 296. When all is said and done who will have more match wins at the slams?

Federer and Novak are 2 of the most consistent players ever in mens Tennis.

If my pitiful math skills are correct, if he was to win the next 9 majors and Federer were to have zero victories added to his total he would break the record at some point during Roland Garros 2023. That’s the soonest he could do it... seems a pretty big ask. We’ll see how his body holds up.

Depends on how long both guys will continue playing. I doubt this is a record Nole is interested in.
He already leads Fed at FO, at the USO he can overtake Feds 89 match wins. The contest will be at Australian Open and Wimbledon.... If Novak wins AO21 then will lead Fed 82 match wins to 75 at the same age/season.

Nadal clearly the best big match player. That’s all this scenario proves
When Fed and Pete were tied at 7/7 the match wins gave Fed the edge. If Novak can lead Fed at 3/4 or 4/4 that will be another feather taken from Feds cap and put in Noles.

The contest at Australian Open is starting to get interesting. A victory for Nole at 2021 AO means he will lead Fed 82 Match wins to 75 at same age/season. Nole trails by 1 match win at Wimbledon only because he din't play 2020 WIMBLEDON.

It’s not really interesting considering he’d still have to keep on winning there for multiple years afterwards to make up the numbers. Bump this thread up in 2 years time and then it might be interesting.

Novak went on a mental walkabout in for a year in portions of 2017-2018. He's also quit in 13 matches (6 in slams) and been defaulted in a slam. That's not exactly the hallmark of "consistency." Check out Rosewall, he blows away Novak in consistency over his career.

This really isn't that important of a record but it is quite doable if he played 4 years longer than Federer. If he becomes quite average and just makes the QF on average at all Slams for 4 years then that is 16 wins a year mutiplied by 4 which is 64 which would either put him ahead, since he may have closed the gap already before Federer retired, or put him right at the mark.

Djokovic made 23/24 Slam SFs during his prime/peak from 2010 Wimbledon until 2016 RG. If that isn't consistency then I don't know what is. Only Federer is comparable and pro Slams where you only had to win 3 or 4 matches are not in the same category.

Djokovic could catch Fed certainly. Everything that Fed has achieved is a flag for Novak to capture. Federer passed records and let off the gas like anyone else would including Djo when he and if (depending on the particular record at the time)he does... Really nothing to see here but chasing and skimpy passing something. Doesn't automatically vault Djokovic ahead when you have a brain and can think for yourself. Unless of course you're one of those that relies on the stupidity of the public which is common here amongst quite a few Nadal and Djokovic fans alike. Not to mention haters masked as Peter Dick Sampras dovotees.

Fed should have easy . He blew too many winnable matches though. He lost a host of matches where he actually outplayed his opponent most of the match
Name Matches Entries M/E
Feder 429 81 5.30
Nadal 358 68 5.26
Djoko 427 76 5.62

M/E measures the career-wide length of a typical slam. Djokovic would have to tank the next five slams (0 victories) to match Federer and Nadal's average length.

At this point I doubt Novak surpasses Fed’s slam record, Novak will prob retire around 39/40 As soon as he is no longer competing for Majors.

I mean we thought the same about Fed but the lure of BIG sponsor money adds another 18 months of “this dude shoulda retired” time for all the greats…. Like, why is Rafa still playing right now, really… Does he have any chance of winning any slam? Nope.

So Fed retired with 369 wins at age 39 (almost 40)

Djokovic could realistically reach 400 if he plays for 1-2 more years
