Osaka leads this early slam count 2:1, but Andreescu just got to the scene. H2H is 1:0 in favor of Osaka.

Who will win more slams?

Osaka. After the nature of her 2nd USO title win yesterday, that should be apparent. She has greater instincts, court knowledge, pure talent and the right tennis influences. The only thing to stop this is injury, or she becomes disinterested in the sport.

Osaka has great instincts or greater instincts? If reading this correctly you have attributed to Osaka better instincts, court knowledge, talent, and influences. I don’t really agree. If you had said that she’s a better athlete and faster out of the corners, with a bigger first serve I would’ve agreed with you.

I like Naomi's awareness of her opportunity and place in the sport, and in the fabric of its history. I do think she has big picture vision which will be golden for her throughout her career. But I don't think she's going to be some super dominant GOATy force.

How is Bianca mentally stronger? She should learn to finish her matches in 2 sets instead of scraping off on prolonged 3-setters which are not good for her fragile body and unnecessary slides. Osaka can maybe manage 3-setters in the short-term because she is more athletic. We also don't how Bianca is on clay and grass, and Osaka needs maybe 2 more years to start performing there to go beyond R3.

Last year they both won a slam and a PM, Andreescu decided not to listen to her body at the WTF played Pliskova while clearly injured, while Osaka retired. Look who came back again this this year to add another slam to her count. Both are injury prone, however I hope that Bianca has used this time to listen to her body, get fitter and lose a bit of the baby fat, she is too talented to become another Austin.

Hmm....

Sure, Bianca should learn to finish her matches in 2, if possible. However, she didn't play any WTA tour level tournaments in 2018 and basically came out of nowhere in 2019. Osaka had several years on tour were she would play well, sometimes struggle, and develop. Osaka slowly moved up the rankings in 2016 and 2017, qualifying for some slams, not others, hanging around in the top 50 for 2 years before breaking through at Indian Wells and winning the USO in 2018. Bianca basically did all that in a single season - in which she didn't play for 3-5 months in the middle. She went from out of the top 150, to being #5 at the end of the season. She's still literally played less than 50 WTA matches (49 according to the WTA site). Osaka's played over 30 WTA matches each season since 2016. Give it a little time.

I'm not saying that Bianca is mentally stronger, but I think the way she competed at Indian Wells, Toronto, and at the USO shows that this is not a deficiency in her game. Anyone who watched her at Indian Wells, in the semis and finals, saw some serious resilience when physically cooked. We just watched Serena get beat in the semis when she was exhausted, but you're docking points from a kid who was dead tired, and yet won in 3 against 2 former or current top 10 players. Someone playing in their basically their first 4 high level (Premier 5 or slam) tournament, winning 3 of them, and then criticizing them for not winning matches in 2 sets rather than 3? Good grief.

I'm hoping they both stay healthy and we get to see lots of great matches between the two.
