Who wins the US Open after the two shocking early departures? Only two previous major titleists in the field, neither multi-major champs. Plus a field of people led by Zverev chasing the ultimate trophy. Should be fun to watch it play out.

Providing he stays healthy (always a question mark for him) Sinner should now cruise to the title.

3 contenders: 1. Sinner, 2. Medvedev, 3. Dimitrov

This US reminds me of '14 US where Federer & Djokovic exited the same day.

I don't think either were going to win the US Open. Alcarez is strangely in **** form starting at the Olympics and continuing to now, and the only slams Djokovic has an outside shot at coming close to winning now are the Australian and Wimbledon. So it makes no real difference. Sinner is most likely, followed pretty closely by Medvedev. Zverev also has a chance but almost guaranteed he will find a way to lose if in position. Ruud could oddly make another slam final, LOL! Who knows, maybe will get lucky this time.

Med is the dark horse

Sinner big favorite now
Interestingly he’s not. The books don’t trust him as he’s a +140 favorite right now and while he is clearly a favorite, he’s not a runaway favorite even with Djoko and Carlitos out.

Botic winning in straight sets and Popy winning with a -1.5 set spread was like a 2,200-1 longshot of happening and it did. Wild times.

No one is clear cut here. As there isn’t much between them and all guys have choked before. It going to be interesting to see who takes this chance but I give sinner slight edge.

The two best players on their respective tours right now are Sinner and Sabalenka. They have one thing in common; they didn't play a 5th major in late July. So, I'm going with that.

I think OP's choices are correct. It's probably going to be one of those three players. Sinner clearly the favorite, though we all know Med usually gives him a good match and CAN beat him. Too bad it's a QF. I'd trust Sinner to then go on and win if he gets through that QF. Med I wouldn't automatically book a tourney win if he beats Sinner, BUT I'd give a fair chance to win the tourney. Zed also has the skills to win it all, and he has the tools to beat Sinner and Med as well - but they can also beat him and I'd give Sinner and Med the upper hand if they met Zverev in the final. So, Sinner, Med, Zverev in that order is who I'd choose.

What player from "the field" has the best chance of surprising? I guess I should look more closely at the draw. Popyrin in theory has the tools - but he's never been that deep; though first time for everything. He just needs to worry about getting through Tiafoe who usually thrives at the USO and not getting ahead of himself. I said last night that it wouldn't surprise me if Foe takes out Popyrin - not because Foe is seeded higher or is really that much better, but because he plays well at the USO and Popyrin has to come down from the Djokovic win and deal with some (if not universal) expectation that he "should" win vs Tiafoe since he took out Djoker. It's a classic trap match for him, but he has the potential to win it.

I'm sure there's players I'm forgetting about. I haven't been fully invested in this USO yet as I was on vacation for the first part of the week.

I'd probably take Sinner/Medvedev/Zverev against the field, but I think it's a close call.

-I'm not convinced that Sinner's health will hold up through the rest of the tournament.
-Medvedev has been in terrible form recently (first match losses in Canada/Cincinnati).
-I'm not 100% convinced that Zverev's knee is completely healed, and he seems destined to choke at some point.

Again, I'd still pick one of these three winning vs. the field, but I might have the odds at something like 55% Sinner/Medvedev/Zverev vs. 45% for everyone else.

I want a Medvedev - Zverev final. I'd be happy with either of them winning.

Tough to see Medvedev winning against Sinner though on current form. Meddy's serve is simply not firing. Landing less than 50% first serves not going to cut it against Sinner.

My outside chance is Fritz who has been excellent so far.

Another poll?
So just like that we are supposed to forgive the 65% who voted in the first poll and give them a second chance? ;)

Djokovic was never the favorite. careerwise he's won 4 in 20 years. It's his 2nd worst major surface.
I'd also like a Sinner Popyrin final or Zverev.

Popyrin is losing to Tiafoe, are you kidding?
they're both on a hot streak this summer. Popyrin has always had a big game and he seems to have improved mentally. Tiafoe as well.
With the crowd clearly on Tiafoe' side he could beat Alexei. So it is a toss-up but I'd prefer Popyrin for his style of game. Plus, I can't trust guys with strange fh takebacks like Khachanov, Paul & Tiafoe.

I want to like Sinner but after recent controversy ...
Going forward - I sincerely hope that his win will help me get over the stink
It will be good for tennis to develop long term rivalry between him and Alkaraz ...
I like DeMinaur also

I think Medvedev is getting a bit overlooked. Yes, Sinner has taken control of the H2H since 2023, but the USO is Med's favorite place to play. Their potential meeting will only be a QF, so both should be fully rested, unlike their AO encounter.
Remember Med won the last time they played.

I never overlook the Mad Lad, but I do wonder if he's undercooked.
