Nadal is looking like a freight train, Federer struggled with UE vs Gasquet, Delpo is looking to knock off Roger for the 2nd straight time this year, and Cilic looks like he found his Wimbledon form (pre-injury.) I would like to see Maestro take home another crown, but he just didn't look great today. If he can get his backhand out of the net he may be able to do something. Nadal is looking unstoppable and playing some all around great tennis. HeHe's really finding his range and starting to get his net game and touch shots involved more than he has in the past. Delpo is a wildcard. Never know if he'll bring that massive forehand or leave it in the locker room. Cilic is a true underdog in this one. It'd be a huge upset for him to make it past the semi against Rafa.

Winner of Nadal v Cilic will win title. Del Potro would have done but now he has hurt his wrist he has no chance.

Federer is not looking great, way too many errors. I'll go for cilic as it's a quick low bouncing court but if he throws a Tokyo SF performance in then Nadal will hammer him.

It surprises me that a bad back Fed is not out already. I was expecting Diego to beat him with his consistent baseline game.

Nadal is at least 50 per cent better than six months ago. If it's a Nadal v federer final Nadal will win in straight sets.

cilic will present a much tougher challenge as if he plays well he can out hit Rafa off both wings. Cilic has looked brilliant so far.

Hopefully del Potro is fully fit I'm sure you agree. Guy is pure box office.

Maybe I'm blind, but I saw a Federer like the USO against Gasquet. I saw too many UE specially with the backhand. But as I said, maybe I need new glasses lol.

Nadal wasn't favourite as he had 24 hrs less rest and every pundit in Germany had federer favourite plus the court was heavily suited in his favour.

Indian wells was the big surprise. But Nadal now is on another level entirely to where he was in Indian wells.

I just can't see federer hurting Nadal. Nadal will work over federer backhand and then hit winners to the open space to federer FH.

I'd like federer to win to keep the race alive but I can't see it. Cilic a bigger danger for Nadal I feel.

The whole Asian trip has been one HUGE PR affair.

Visit to Nike Tokyo, release of new shoes, visit GSW , meeting Yao Ming , meeting Rolex Execs, touring Metro Shanghai - he is barely fitting his matches with this schedule.

According to some Fed fans Fed should almost be in a wheelchair by now, his back so bad.

How I see it- not 100%, but better than USO. And not sure if it is the back that is the problem, maybe just rusty.
I remember during USO it was very few Fed fans admitting something was wrong with Federers back. Something clearly was hindering his movement, but so many denied. Now the opposite.
What do you think now @BeatlesFan. Back or rust?

Well, while he's there he has sponsor obligations. But you said his back still looks injured and to me, it doesn't. He simply looks rusty from lack of matches IMO.

I know what you're trying to do though. You're trying to go with preemptive excuses in case Federer loses to Del Potro or worse, to Nadal. ;)

Back looks fine, he's just trying to find his timing on a quick court IMO. He was trying to be very aggressive today for most of the match so he hit some UE's. Hopefully that part of his game will be sharper in his next match.

Looks like Nadal to me. Federer way too up and down, he needs to be in as good of a form as Nadal himself to beat him at this stage.

Fed has to be fully fit to beat a healthy Delpo or Rafa in this kind of form. He is marginally better than USO - almost same as what we saw at LC.

He is not just rusty , he is out of position for several rallies -movement is not what you saw at the beginning of the year.

So I am not even taking it as a guarantee a victory over Delpo here. Hopefully the end of season break can provide the necessary healing. Year end seems a wash at this time.

Nadal looks to be in the best form at the moment, that is clear.

Del Potro seems to be out of the running with this injury that he's picked up. This is very typical - each time he seems to be on his way back properly, he re-injures himself.

So Nadal slight favourite for the title, but it is entirely possible that Federer suddenly rediscovers form and blasts through the last couple of rounds

Federer. His AO BH is back. And he's also clubbing that FH ruthlessly going more IO than I have ever seen this season. His serve also seems to be back and I just hope he gets to play at least a set against Potro. If Federer hits IW level(He's closer than most ppl think), he's winning this no matter which version of Nadal turns up.

Today Federer hit a couple of sublime backhands which he has not hit since Wimbledon. He's way more aggressive on his FH than usual. These are good signs. If all elements of his game start to complement and click, nobody beats him on this surface. Let's not forget what he did to peak Nole in '14 on this very same court. I just hope his game rounds up real well during the finals. Irrespective, if Federer keeps building on his form, I would pick him at WTF. Too early to call though. Fingers crossed.

Dimitrov's form has been very high. he also dismissed NK easily in China.

its easy to say Nadal hasn't met anyone of Federer's caliber since he's been on this current HC win streak, there is no one of Federer's caliber except Nadal himself.

I expect Federer to win the whole thing. He serves very well and that's a good indicator of his confidence, the Shanghai surface really suits his game and I think that he will be fresher (mentally) than Nadal, if they reach the final.
