Wimbledon 1991 won unexpectedly Michael Stich, when he defeated defending champion Stefan Edberg in SF and in the final of his fellow countryman and triple Wimbledon winner Boris Becker. Victory over Edberg Stich thwarted the fourth meeting of Becker-Edberg rivalry in the Wimbledon finals in a row.
But who from Becker-Edberg rivalry would have won Wimbledon in 1991, if Stich's way for the title did not happen? There is much talk about Edberg's form, because he has not lost his service throughout the tournament, including lost with Stich. Becker, on the other hand, coveted revenge for losing from the previous year. Who favors Becker in this hypothetical match, who favors Edberg and why?

Anyone who remembers those Becker/Edberg finals knows they were great because they were so unpredictable. To ask 30 years later who would have won a match that didn't happen is just silly.

I say Edberg. Also, how about if Agassi doesn’t get hurt and gets by weaton to face Becker whom he was owning. Stich vs Agassi. Could Andre have had the tittle one year early?

Yes! But the other fact is what Becker said years later that if he had won the final it would become the last match of his career! That was in his mind and the main problem. Becker played not that bad as often said but Stichs return at this day was out of this world. Much better than in the Edberg SF. Edberg served well that tournament but his return was not as good as the year before.

I am inclined to say Becker.

The H2H is 25-10 in favor of Becker.
Becker won their last eight matches starting in 1991.
The last match that Edberg "won" was when Becker retired in the final of the Paris Masters in 1990.
After that it seemed that Becker had Edberg's number.

But then again Edberg took a set from Stich in the semis; whereas Becker lost in straight sets.
