Whooping it up after opponent misses

You may remember me. I posted last year that my U10 Junior was sick of all the yelling in Junior tennis in Germany. The opponent wishes to gain a psychological advantage by whooping it up every time my son makes a mistake. So my kid gets yelled at for making a mistake for 2 to 3 hours. Ugh.
Many of you said this was unsportsmanlike conduct. I called a big wig at Tennis Germany headquarters and he agreed.
But we just came back from a match here in Germany where the judge ruled against my child saying "While ugly, as long as the yelling does not occur DURING the exchange, it is alright".

So we are going to just forget playing tennis in Germany. How is it where you play in the US? After you slam it into the net, does your opponent always yell YES!! or C'MON!! or SUPER!! or is that unsportsmanlike conduct?

In the US it depends who you play against really. I would think that would be everywhere. If you're playing against someone who has no respect then you could expect that.

I havent had any of that it has been all business and the other opponent is working on getting in the zone not siking you out i think it is almost to serious from who i have played...but is your son EXTREMELY good because if he isnt dont move from germany to america just for tennis.

I am glad to hear your opponents have been playing tennis with their rackets and not their mouths!
We have been looking forward to working in the US for awhile, if the tennis is fairer there, that would just be icing on the cake.

I don't think they will stop the kids doing it over there, but it's sad. Can you imagine players at Wimbledon doing this? There is so much more respect for other players than what you have seen.

In the US it's ok for kids to cheer loudly after every point but it just gets annoying. For me its a motivator to kick their ass.

Most kids that I play usually don't yell or scream after I make an error, but after they win a good point, or hit a good shot then they might yell.

Occasionally I play some jerk who does yell and scream "c'mon" or "lets go" after I make a bad error, but it's all part of the game. And most kids are pretty nice.

I am going to try to have that behaviour cut out here in Germany, and, when I am in the US I will lobby for it to be against the rules there.
It's obviously a technicality, that the opponent is "just prompting himself", so he gets away with the unsportsmanlike behavior of trying to get his opponent to mess up by yelling at him. He wants his opponent to start fearing the coming yell.
Yes, there is a huge difference between whooping it up after you slam an ace, and yelling every time the point ends in your favor and saying nothing bad about yourself every time when you yourself mess up. That is bullying.

I realize yelling to try to mess people up is part of the game in basketball and baseball, but there you can hide in a team who yells right back for you. In billiards and golf and singles tennis you are all alone.

Otherwise, if hearing a "C'MON" is allowed by the opponent after you slam the ball into the net, your child should be able to run to the net and yell. "You are rude!!" and then, well, after an hour of that let the punching begin! (My child is a brown belt in Judo, too.) I will have to purchase a new mouth guard for tennis events then.

If its like deep in a set (4-4, 5-5) and they get a break by your UE, i wouldnt be suprised by a COME ON!!!

Stop crying and let ur kid play tennis its not unsportman like to say something when u win a point. There kids just let the game be.

Omg Plz Ban this guy. Stay in Germany Ur the biggest ***** I have ever heard. If it gets in you and your sons heads you need to work on your mental game. I thought Judo tought self-control obviously not. Plz stop whining Its part of the game. Its like asking TO not to do a touchdown dance when he scores.

I must say that its part of the game, if you can´t take it play something other instead.
You must learn to deal with players like that because thats part of the game - if it helps you winning, then why not....tennis is in the head as well.

It can be too much, true - but yelling come on or something like that if the opponent misses a shot, part of the game.
Do the same,or just be cool. I´ve played many players like that, and you just have to learn to deal with it, sorry, but it´s like that

yeah yelling after every frickin point can get annoying, but if its crucial, like break point in a huge serving match then you have the authority to raise your voice and yell yes! or come on! or somethin. (never heard anyone say super! lol) otherwise yelling or exclaiming every dang point is ********.

The courts are all clay in summer.
In winter you mostly have carpet, indoors, which my kids say plays "faster".
I realize that being mentally tough enough to ignore the yellers would be wonderful, but they are so skilled at doing it!
Like yesterday, another tournament, 4th round. First three rounds nobody yelled with joy after mess ups except a weaker player whom my son just laughed at.
Fourth round the player started out saying "C'mon" softly every time my son messed up, and then when the points were crucial, louder and louder. I asked around and it was obvious to everyone there that the eventual yelling was designed to frustrate my child at crucial points. I asked the opponent's father why his son yelled with joy when my son made a mistake and he laughed at me.
My son lost in three sets in a tie break. My kid is not completely weak in the head, I just do not think the opponent should get the "trying to spook my kid by yelling" advantage.

(The opponent also tried to cheat on the line calls on crucial points, too, but fortunately there are marks in the clay to show where the ball hit.)

I am glad to hear that most of the kids in the US are nice. I want my kids to be influenced by nice kids.

its pretty much a part of the game, it is more or less prevelant in different places but it will always be there. lol, you definitley have to work on your child's mental game if that throws them off. Whenever i see someone do that it just gives me more motivation to beat them

Most kids laugh at the people who yell and make fools of themselves on the court. There is ONE guy in our entire section that I know of who will yell "Come on! Right here right now!" after every point (he's a pusher as well), other than that everyone I've played with is cool and knows the right time to celebrate.
Then again, you may move to a place where a lot of people celebrate errors so I don't think it's just country-specific.

That has bothered me in the past, but I just got motivated by it eventually. Unfortunately it is part of the game, there are to parts to tennis physical and mental. some are better at beating people physically, an others are better at winning by mental. You need to be prepared for both. Tennis is much more than who has better strokes. It is unfortunately sad that people will not bother to practice and improve their strokes and rather just play a mental game.

hahahaha i do this all the time in other sports like lacrosse when i score a goal i just start bashing the other team as long as you don't swear it's fine i think i might start doing it in tennis now since there are people that actually let it get to them
