The modern ranking system sucks; Zverev's taken advantage of it. There's nothing more rewarding in tennis than winning a GS which Zverev's never been able to accomplish; Carlos's got two of those this year. So much who's had a better year.

There's nothing wrong with the ranking system today. Alcaraz has had the better year by winning 2 majors, but ranking points mostly reward consistency over the previous 52 weeks.

Actually Zverev hasn't been more consistent, he's just played far more events.

Zverev is 65 wins and 20 losses in 2024. A win/loss percentage of 76.5%.
Alcaraz meanwhile is 52 wins and 11 losses. A win/loss of 82.5%.

The German might have 13 more wins but he also has 9 more losses. That's.... not good.

Once upon a time a player named RIOS was ranked no 1 without winning any slam but still he won lots of tournaments. This Zerev guy has not done anything extraordinary but computer dont know who is better . It gives result based on points.
But any tennis player will give his #2 ranking for 2 slams .
