His 2018 Madrid run was very very impressive, no doubt. I do think Thiem should have done better in that 2018 final. Right now, he's struggling so I don't weigh this past loss as highly but hard for me to overlook that Thiem has been better at the biggest clay tournament though and has taken Djokovic and Nadal to the cleaner 7 times on clay. I give him the slight edge.
