Tough to argue here, it is certainly close. GSC 97 Rafter, YEC finals 94/96 against Becker and the 99 final against Agassi come to mind.
The Rafter match was insanity. Made a 2 time slam champ and excellent serve and volleyer look like a chump.

Sampras + it's not even a debate, won YE 5 times, + always beat Becker when it mattered. Lendl amazing stats in his era, but Sampras was in another league, both mentally + in terms of aggression
Pete's 1997 WTF title was on indoor hard, so he had 4 WTFs on carpet. He also won the Grand Slam Cup on carpet 2/5 times he played.

Meanwhile, McEnroe won WTF 3 times, all on carpet, and won the WCT Finals on carpet 5/9 times he played.

McEnroe also has the highest winning percentage on carpet, the most consecutive wins, and is tied for the most titles.

I'm still picking McEnroe.

Mac numbers are just stupid.

But growing up it felt like Pete won a bunch of all-time matches.

What's the date range of The Great Carpet Extinction? It took a number of years, but when did it start? Was Becker's entire career in the carpet era or was it starting to change by the end?
