TTW thinks Murray didn’t do enough in his slam final losses.

Well he did just enough to win 2 Wimbledons and a USO! Those AO matches were a disaster for the most part against Fed and Nole! He was more comp. in the SF he had in 2012 taking Nole to 5 sets and 5 hours! It's a wonder Djokovic had enough to grind it out vs Rafa in the final going 5:53 and 5 more sets! :laughing::happydevil:

This is roughly what I said TTW thinks.

Andy Murray is not an ATG, not even close, get over it Murray fans.

I checked Murray's win% (76.35%) and found it to be slightly more than Agassi's (76.05%)
Then I checked Roddick's win% (74.12%) which is also more than Mats Wilander's 71.84%
Then I checked Hewitt's win% (70.16%) which is also more than Jim Courier's win% of 68%

In Slams, murray has a higher % than Wilander and Edberg
Roddick has almost same win% as Vilas and a higher win% than Nastase and Stan Smith

So if Murray is an ATG then Roddick and Hewitt are also ATGs

Ridiculous, none of these fellows are ATGs, their fans should get over this fetish.

Having the ATG consistency is just not enough when you don't have the ATG peak level of play.

Murray is still a great champion and his fans should be proud of his achievements.
He did have a very high level of peak play. It was just unfortunate for him that he was around at the same time as the very top ATG's.

I have enormous respect for Connors and McEnroe - both are rightly regarded as All time greats. But what would there records have looked like if they were contemporaries with Federer, Nadal and Djokovic?

It's not just your record, its also your competition that influences things.

Murray in no universe can be an ATG, even in a vacuum he would find ways to lose.

Mcenroe on the other hand beat Borg comprehensively and ruled the 1st half of the 80s, he has beaten multiple ATGs back to back in few of his slams, there is no question that he would do well vs Big 3

Perhaps even Connors would do well, definetly better than Murray, Connors didn't play till 39 without actually having an high level

Murray is nothing, I repeat, he is no better than Hewitt/Roddick, in the same tier as those 2, just over-achieved compared to them. Pretty much in the same ballpark/tier as them.

It is a sin to even mention Mcenroe in the same breath as Murray, John is like 2 tiers above, Connors too,.

I am a fan of Tennis, not of any singular player, being a fan of 1 player makes you irrational/blind to talents of other players.

I am a fan of Djokovic for his mental toughness and his savagery on court, Federer for his beautiful game and business mind, Nadal for his brutal power/athleticism and grit, Safin for his overall charisma etc etc .... Not limited to 1 player.

You come across as a Djokovic fan who doesn’t believe in the Federer is the GOAT because he earns the most money or something like that.

While watching Federer Nadal matches as a Federer fan I would be very angry on Nadal for beating Fed because deep down I knew that Fed was better and should have won, however with Djokovic-Fed matches that anger for Novak was missing in me because somewhere I saw that he was mentally tougher and his game was better suited to the slow courts than Federer's while also being pretty good on the fast courts, so gradually Novak's clutch has made be accept Federer's downfall.

As far as making most money goes, sure Fed is the biggest icon, but here being the biggest icon is not of much importance if someone better but less popular emerges in the market you know.

Britain's Andy Murray will begin next year's grass-court campaign at the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart before heading to Queen's Club and Wimbledon.

Murray, who is currently ranked 134 in the world, will feature at the ATP 250 in Germany for the first time.

The tournament runs from 4-12 June, meaning it overlaps with the French Open (22 May-5 June), although the Scot is not expected to begin his campaign until the first round on Monday, June 6 or Tuesday, June 7.

Organisers announced Murray's participation on Twitter, saying: "Not only Santa has great surprises for you today. We're proud to announce that Andy Murray will start next year's #RoadToWimbledon in #Stuttgart!"

Based on this you were a Federer fan but began to support Novak later after hrs began toppling Federer.

Thats what I said and this is applicable for everyone who started watching Tennis in the early 2000s, is it possible to watch Tennis in 04 and be a fan of Roddick or Agassi ? If you were watching tennis in the 90s then you would be fan of other tennis players and probably would later shift to Fed fanbase or dislike Fed for his breaking of records of the prev GOAT. Same for people who started following tennis from 2010-2011 won't be a fan of Federer or Nadal, I for one have been a Federer fan in 00s but in 2010s gradually with the rise of Novak I saw a better champ who was resilient and did not care for the crowd who were anti him. Those are the sort of things that cause a gradual change in mindset with time.

Travis Tomic (Tanner) is behind them selling podcast subscriptions to people thinking they're buying vegetables.

I saw your post in the TV thread about You. It makes the Murray and Djokovic picture hilarious. Didn't know about this show before.

Yeah .... YOU is an amazing show, a bit close to Dexter with a different theme nd plot...... the actor Penn Badgley who plays the lead did a great role in Gossip Girl as well where he plays the role of a small town boy blending in a school of rich kids and being a part of them ....

Both shows 1 time watch for sure.

It's a common bias fan(atics) will have -that their favorite should be or have been an ATG.
With Murray, it's more complex even because of the big 3. His fan(atics) have a nice get out clause with that, which just makes the clamoring for ATG status even more ferocious.
The really odd thing is that this place is one of the few, apart from the BBC, where Murray being an ATG gets any voice. Even then, despite the fact he is always voted NOT an ATG in polls, his fan(atics) still act and talk about him like he is.
Perhaps, like most fanbases, they need to set up a Murray fan(atic)thread. Oh, there is one? So, why the pillaring of GD with this 'stuff'?
A most interesting case study on fan(atic)dom.
Happy Friday all! :giggle:
