Why are people hating on Nadal?

Fed specialises in grass and hardcourt. He squeezed in 1 clay slam when he was fortunate enough to avoid the King of Clay. On the other hand, Rafa has beaten Fed on grass and h/c in slams and Fed chickened out of playing Rafa at this USO because he knew he would lose.

Um no. And just in case you didn't know, Fed has beaten Rafa on all 3 surfaces....

Fed was clearly underdone at the USO. Only a blithering ignorant would say such a thing. Nadal got his but kicked by fed 3 times this year (and 4 in a row in the h2h). And fed still leads the slam count.

It's because of this. Absolutely !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awwww. Too bad nads still only has 1 AO :D

Damn, I haven't been on here in months but the salt from the overzealous Federer fanboys is absolutely astounding, they think Federer has a given right to every title, ridiculous.

Stop sucking lemons and clinging on to any little thing to hate him, he has made this era just as special as Federer has.

Thank you for resurfacing.

It's bizzaro world right now.

Federer fanboys are making the same arguments that Djokovic fanboys used to make. Djokovic fanboys are now making the same arguments that Nadal fanboys used to make. And Nadal fanboys sound like Federer fanboys used to sound.

Dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria!!!

The Nadal hate here seems to be so strong. People saying he had it too easy.

Federer had the same at WImbledon, no competition at all this year. And I say this as a Federer and Nadal fan.

Let us just face the reality.
There's that word again.

They may have at one time. Feel like it’s more a case of disbelief now. At this time of year, that’s coal territory.

Are people still discussing why Fed cried in AO 09? He probably barely knows himself so I can't see how anyone else would. It was probably a whole host of things all coming on top of a bad year.
I don't know why Nadal fans get so upset about it anyway. Their guy reacted to the whole situation in a really kind, compassionate way. People will remember "that" photo far more than they will ever remember any trophy biting. It's not a bad thing to have as part of your legacy.

Let us just face the reality. Right now in tennis it is a weak era.

Nadal is putting on more power, hitting shots harder, but he is no the same player he was in his prime - speed is a key factor but it is not being tested other than Federer in a few competitions this year.

Federer again is not the same player he was in 2005-2009, he was so aggressive, used a smaller racquet, and his speed and the way he went for the shots was unbelievable.

I'm just enjoying the fact that I get to watch my two favorite players at the top, even though no one has emerged from the new generation. But you can't fight nature, Federer and Nadal are over 30s and will not be at this level for much longer - and I will feel upset when they finish up because I grew up watching these two.

So yes there is a lack of competition in todays field, but Federer and Nadal are not the two greatest players in history because of the field in 2017, but because what they achieved those years in their prime at their best and they took tennis to a level we may never see again - that is what made them.

Lets just enjoy watching these two players until they retire and the new generation emerge because we will miss them when they are not there.

Looking for a similar thread you must have surely made after Wimbledon 2017, in response to all the Federer hating that was going on here. Being the Federer and Nadal fan that you are, can you provide me with that link? Thanks! :)

I started of watching tennis as a Federer fan, and I disliked Nadal.

But I soon grew to appreciate what Nadal was, something amazing.

He is the only player in history that actually beat Roger Federer, in his prime, on his best surfaces. Wimbledon 2008, Federer was playing amazing did not lose a set until the final. That has to be admired.

I don't think any other player in history could have beaten Federer at Wimbledon in 2008.

I am glad I wasn't disappointed...thread is complete with this magnificent statement. :)

Nadal doesn't have that.
For the years he played (as in he didn't lose before the final during those years). Point is Nadal is not a clay specialist. None of the Big 4 are. A real clay specialist is Muster or Thiem. Muster never even won a match at Wimbledon.

he made 5 straight finals in Wimbledon tournaments played, although no he did not make 5 straight calendar finals.
Which is exactly the point. If Roger skipped FO in 2010, would you say he reached 5 straight FO finals from 2006 to 2011?

Nadal reached the final of the last 5 Wimb editions he played, but saying he reached 5 straight finals is basically awarding him an achievement he doesn't possess.

If Fed skipped 2010, I would use that stat. But he didn't skip it, ¿no?

For the years he played is not straight. If Fed skipped the FO in 2010, it would be silly to say he reached 5 straight FO finals from 2006 to 2011.

If I played Wimb one year, reached the final, didn't play for another 5 years and played again after that and again reached the final, did I reach 2 straight Wimb finals?

There's a difference between the gap of 1 year and a gap of 5 years. Considering his form he would easily have made the final had he played in 2009

Maybe, but it shows a lack of respect to the guys who actually reached the final in 2009.

Rafa doesn't need imaginary awards. He has plenty of real ones.

And a gap is still a gap, be it 1 or 100 years.

OK, Agassi won RG once. Just proves how recently hard court became a tennis surface as the USO was played on clay in Connor's day. Had the USO stayed a clay surface, Rafa would probably have 25 slams by now.

They only played on clay three years and that clay surface was quite a bit different than RG’s clay. They played on grass before thst. Had thr surfsce remained grass...

Not many players have managed to win RG. You have to be more than just a good player to do that, which is why Rafa is the best. Not only has he owned RG, a tournament which only a few players have managed to win more than once or twice, but he is just as good on grass and hard court as the rest of them.

No clay slam
McEnroe
Edberg
Becker
Connors
Sampras
Agassi

So VB doesn't even know the past winners at *RG*? Shows the extend of your tennis knowledge for anything not-Rafa.

Oh well, as some would say, it's not as if we were talking about an important event anyway, is it?

him being a blatant on court cheater with a shady connection to the medical experts of dubious past doesn't help, i was told...

i was told...

seriously, will these threads continue until the end of time?

war is over, fedal are united as friends and ambassadors of the sports, true heroes and legends and icons, and that just really pisses the haters off.

u mad?

The clay used at USO was different than the one used at RG. Nadal hasn't proven he can succeed on all clay courts: see Madrid 2012.
That is a very good point. Very interesting thought experiment. It would put Djokovic and Federer at a disadvantage if one HC slam was gone, but achieving a lot while being a hard court player would be more valued.

OP it's very simple. It's jealousy. Nadal upset the status quo and continues to do so.

However it does depend on what forum you go on. Other forums are pro Nadal. Nadal is the most popular player on social media so read into that what you will.
